It seems a few original characters could be returning to Gaffney Chicago Medical Center next season on Chicago Med!
After making a point to bring back several familiar faces in season 10 with the returns of Mekia Cox and Rachel Dipillo, showrunner Allen MacDonald is looking to bring back even more familiar faces in season 11. In fact, it seems he’s already reached out to a few cast members and is in active conversation with the former stars.
“I can say that yes, we’re going to hopefully have some original cast members come back,” MacDonald teased in speaking with TV Insider about plans for season 11.

If you’re a huge fan of fast-paced drama and powerful storytelling, the Chicago franchise has probably hooked you by now. What began with Chicago Fire all the way back in 2012 quickly turned into something bigger – a TV universe where first responders, police officers, and lawyers fight their own battles in the same city. That’s right – the franchise includes Chicago Fire, Chicago Pd, Chicago Med, and the short-lived Chicago Justice.
Each managed to have its own vibe and emotional pull. As fans, we’ve loved watching characters cross over between series, face life-or-death situations, and build real human connections. While some shows have completely nailed the formula, others have not so much.
Whether you’re into the adrenaline of firefighting, the intensity of police work, or the chaos of the ER, there’s something here for everyone. But let’s be honest – not all of them hit the same.

The paramedics were back for a new episode of Chicago Fire.
Last week, Lizzy Novak and Violet Mikami were out, with the duo rotating through a different house.
It meant that Violet didn’t get to see Sam Carver when he returned from rehab.
Carver and Violet hugged as they arrived for their shifts this week.
Kelly Severide visited Jack Damon at the hospital. It was revealed that Damon should be healthy within a few weeks, save for potential lung issues.
Damon was worried that the fire from the previous episode had permanently damaged his lungs. He was told later to expect a full recovery.
Severide also dropped the information that Stella Kidd was out for the shift.
Chicago Fire Season 13, Episode 19 recap
Novak spent much of the episode trying to find a new place to live.
The young girl who stopped by the station to visit Kidd stopped in again.

Chicago Med is gearing up for its season 10 finale. There are lots of story threads to wrap up with the current roster of characters, but showrunner Allen MacDonald knew what he was doing when he told TV Line that we will be seeing the return of a former Med star.
MacDonald confirmed that some "unexpected faces" will be in the mix for the finale. The final minutes of the hour will have some big shocks with lasting ripple effects," he explained. "It's going to be a very long summer for Chicago Med fans!" Since we have such an enticing lead to go on, we figured we'd go through the list of characters who are still alive, and determine how likely their return would be.

Many Chicago Med fans asked, “Who is Michael Waxman?” after the new episode.
The questions come from a post-show credits scene honoring him.
“In Memory of Michael Waxman,” read the title card at the end of Chicago Med Season 10, Episode 18 (Together One Last Time) on April 16.
Waxman passed away earlier in April; the latest episode paid tribute to his association with the show.
Previous cast members have also left messages for and about him on social media.
“If you enjoy Chicago Med it’s because from Day One Michael Waxman pushed to make the show the best it could be and worked tirelessly to keep improving episode after episode, season after season. He loved his job,” wrote actor Colin Donnell.

Chicago Med has given us countless beloved characters over the years. The writing and the acting has always been the bread-and-butter of this show, and care has been taken with regard to keeping the storylines of each character intact. This is partially why someone as fondly remembered as April Sexton will not be returning to the show anytime soon.
Yaya DaCosta, the actress who plays Sexton, recently spoke about her feelings toward Chicago Med, and while she was effusive in her praise for the show and the impact it had on her career, she said she had no interest in returning. Why? Well, because she feels her character left at the perfect time. She's not interested in potentially undoing the resolution she loved so much.

We are excited to see Kim Burgess (Marina Squerciati) and Adam Ruzek (Patrick John Flueger) get married. These two have been through lots of starts and stops when it comes to their romance, and it feels as though they've truly deserved their happy ending at the altar. Well, happy resolution might be a better word.
The notion of an "ending" kind of ties in with out underlying concern, though. One Chicago has treated fans to multiple weddings over the years. No show is perfect. Chicago Med has been on the air for ten seasons, so there is bound to be an episode or two that fails to deliver on the combination of drama and romance that fans have come to expect. And there is bound to be an episode that fans consider to be the "worst."
Well, thanks to IMDb, we know which one it is. The website pulls user ratings from die-hard Chicago Med fans, and it determined that "Nothing to Fear" from season 3 is the most disliked episode in the show's entire history. It has a rating of 6.5, when the average Med episode is 7.6. We thought it'd be useful to look back at it and determine what didn't work, and if the hate is perhaps a little too strong.

This article contains mild spoilers for "Reacher" Season 3.
"Reacher" Season 3 has received a lot of advance attention for its antagonist game. However, much of it has been directed at the hulking Paulie (Olivier Richters), whose gigantic frame makes even Jack Reacher (Alan Ritchson) look puny in comparison. While this is understandable from a visual standpoint, it's worth noting that Paulie is far from the only villain in the mix. Rug purveyor Zachary Beck (Anthony Michael Hall) seems to be up to very little good, and the looming presence of an ominous man called Francis Xavier Quinn is also hovering above the events.
While Quinn is largely absent from the show's first three episodes, he's heavily telegraphed to be the most devious villain Reacher has faced yet. The actor who's tasked with portraying the character is none other than Brian Tee, who happens to have plenty of experience in all levels...

The Chicago Med cast has said goodbye to many members, including Rachel Dipillo, who used to play Dr. Sarah Reese.
Dipillo was one of the original Chicago Med actresses, first serving as a medical student at Gaffney in Season 1. She then became a psychiatry resident under Dr. Daniel Charles (Oliver Platt).
Many folks from Chicago Med Season 1 have also left the show, including Torrey DeVitto as Dr. Natalie Manning, Yaya DaCosta as April Sexton, Colin Donnell as Dr. Connor Rhodes, Nick Gehlfuss as Dr. Will Halstead, and Brian Tee as Dr. Ethan Choi.
The Chicago Med writers have a way of bringing characters back, like when Dr. Choi and April Sexton returned and got married.
Dr. Manning also returned in a brief scene where she welcomed Dr. Halstead as he arrived in Seattle (after he quit the hospital).
Now Dr. Reese returns, as revealed ahead of the Chicago Med fall finale.

Andrea Freemann makes a welcome return in The Lincoln Lawyer Season 3. After impressing audiences in her courtroom battle against Mickey Haller in Season 2, Yaya DaCosta's character is back to keep Mickey on his toes. But how has their relationship changed since Mickey finally defeated Andrea at the end of last season? And what can audiences expect this time around?
Cbr spoke to DaCosta about getting to expand the character of Andrea beyond her original one-season story arc, and what that meant for her as an actor. She also reflected on if her experience as April Sexton in six seasons of Chicago Med helped her wrangle the complex jargon that comes with playing a lawyer. Plus, learn how art and life intersected for her during Season 3.

Torrey DeVitto's Natalie Manning left Chicago Med at the end of season 6 for a reason. Natalie had been one of the main doctors in the Gaffney Center Emergency Department since the show's beginning. Her on-again, off-again relationships with Will Halstead and Crockett Marcel were central to the series during those early years and helped solidify its status as one of the best One Chicago shows. She also had several strong storylines in which she had to balance her empathy for pediatric patients with her duty to provide them with the best care.
Natalie also occasionally appeared in other shows in the One Chicago universe, so her exit at the end of season 6 left a large hole. Her departure also came at the end of a long and emotional storyline involving her mother's heart disease and seemed to be a permanent ending to the competition between Marcel and Will for her affections.

April left Chicago Med to become a nurse practitioner after season 6. Yaya DaCosta exited the NBC series after season 6, where her character quit and left the hospital. April married Ethan Choi in Chicago Med season 8 after rekindling their relationship, leading them to open a mobile medical clinic.
Over the course of its nine-season run, Chicago Med has lost many original cast members, including Yaya DaCosta as April Sexton, an Ed nurse at Gaffney Chicago Medical Center. The actress started playing April during Chicago Fire season 3 (as she was sort of dating Taylor Kinney's Kelly Severide at the time) before joining the second spinoff in the One Chicago universe. April and Severide were old high school friends who struck a connection. However, their fling wasn't destined to last, and April was next seen in Chicago Med season 1, episode 1, as one of the main characters.

Due to cast changes, a 2024 One Chicago crossover is necessary. Each One Chicago show has had significant cast exits in previous seasons. There has been a lack of crossovers due to safety concerns regarding Covid-19.
The One Chicago universe used to thrive on crossovers, benefiting from being on the same network, filming in the same city, and releasing episodes on the same day, but it has been a while since NBC has produced a crossover, and that must change. Chicago Fire kicked off the One Chicago franchise in October 2012, and its success convinced NBC to expand its universe by ordering a spinoff, Chicago Pd. Then, Chicago Med and the short-lived Chicago Justice came, and although Chicago Justice is gone, the other shows are alive and thriving.
The One Chicago TV shows premiere on Wednesday, September 25, on NBC, with Chicago Med season 10 premiering at 8 p.m. Et, Chicago Fire season 13 at 9 p.

Several TV shows have lost beloved stars over the past month. However, the losses open the door for some possible returns in the future. That could happen with Chicago Med. According to the actor who played the role, a popular doctor who left the show two years ago could return.

Could Dr. Ethan Choi Return To Chicago Med?
Brian Tee, who played Dr. Ethan Choi on Chicago Med for eight seasons, left the series two years ago. However, Tee has not kept away from the show. He has actually returned twice, just not on camera. Since leaving the series, Tee returned to direct two episodes.

Although Tee is open to returning, it doesn't seem likely for Chicago Med season 10, although the idea could still happen in the future.

Chicago Med season 9 will be starting up again on November 27, bringing excitement for the cast and crew who can now resume working. The new season will feature cast changes, with notable exits from characters like Dr. Will Halstead and Dr. Ethan Choi. There will also be shifts behind the scenes, as co-creator Derek Haas steps away from his role as executive producer, and a new character with a troubled past is introduced.
Chicago Med season 9 gets a major update from Jessy Schram, who plays Dr. Hannah Asher. With the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes both over, broadcast shows have been among the first Hollywood productions to ramp back up to make the most out of what remains from the usual TV season. Although it's expected to have fewer episodes than normal due to the fallout from the strikes, there will be a lot of new developments for NBC's long-running medical drama.

In a recent discussion, Yaya DaCosta, the actress who embodied the character of April Sexton on the hit series Chicago Med, hinted at a possible return to the show under a specific condition: her character must return as a doctor.
A product of the creative minds of Dick Wolf and Matt Olmstead, Chicago Med first hit the screens of NBC in 2015. The series has since established itself as a significant voice in the medical drama genre, weaving narratives that follow the lives, relationships, and professional challenges faced by the staff of Gaffney Chicago Medical Center's emergency department.
April Sexton, played by DaCosta, emerged as a dedicated professional with a high commitment to patient care. This unwavering commitment led her to leave the series following the sixth season in pursuit of higher education, seeking to further her medical knowledge as a nurse practitioner.
Surprisingly, DaCosta returned to the show for the eighth season.

Chicago Med star Yaya DaCosta reveals her one condition for returning to the show. Created by Dick Wolf and Matt Olmstead, the series premiered on NBC back in 2015, tracking the lives and relationships of different staff members within the emergency department at Gaffney Chicago Medical Center. DaCosta reprised her role in Chicago Med season 8, but it is unclear whether she will make another appearance. During a recent interview with TV Insider, the actor revealed that if April were to come back, it should be as a doctor. Right now, you can see Yaya DaCosta taking command of the courtroom in The Lincoln Lawyer Season 2 (Part 1 is streaming on Netflix). But before she donned suits, she wore scrubs, starring as April Sexton on Chicago Med. And though she left two years earlier, she returned in its most recent season as part of Brian Tee‘s exit, which included April and Ethan getting married! “It was so much fun. It was such a lovely experience going back to kind of close out the storyline and send Brian Tee’s character, Ethan Choi, off [and] send him and April Sexton off into the sunset,” DaCosta tells TV Insider of that “fairytale ending” for the couple. “Just the whole experience was really beautiful. It was great to see a lot of the cast and crew that were still there.” And since part of her return included that wedding, that meant finding ...

Season 8 of Chicago Med saw the reunion of two ships, paying off romance teases from all the way back in season 1. Dr. Ethan Choi and nurse April Sexton, or Chexton, and Dr. Will Halstead and Dr. Natalie Manning, or Manstead, are two of Chicago Med’s most popular romantic relationships. Like most TV couples, both had a rocky timeline and a classic will-they-won’t-they dynamic. However, the uncertainty ultimately paid off as they were both confirmed to be endgame in the show’s latest season.
When April and Natalie were both set up to leave after season 6 of Chicago Med, fans of Chexton and Manstead had probably given up on any possibility of their ships coming back. Chicago Med eason 8 dropped huge surprises in April’s guest star role and Natalie’s brief finale cameo. With Ethan and Will making their exits this season, long-time Chicago Med fans can now...
