Thor's 10 Best Costumes in Marvel Comic History, Ranked
Image
As an immortal God of Thunder, Marvel Comics Thor has sported countless designs, looks, and costumes throughout his millenia of heroism. From the more traditional Asgardian Viking clothing, to cosmically powered threads, to futuristic armor, Thor Odinson is always dressed to impress when he's prepating to defend the realm of Midgard.

But with so many different suits, outfits, and costumes to choose from, some of Thors countless wardrobe choices work better than others. In making sure the current King of Asgard and All-Father looks the part, we're breaking down the best Thor costumes in Marvel Comics history.

"The Crossing" (1996) First Appearance: Thor #502 (1996) by William Messner-Loebs, Mike Deodato Jr., Marie Javins

This controversial Thor design squarely entrenched the God of Thunder as one of the '90s most infamously derisive fashion choices. Introduced as a signifier of the son of Odins return to godhood up until this point, Thor had been...

What Is the Galactus Seed? Marvel's Infinity Gauntlet-Level Artifact Already Exists in the MCU - Theory Explained
Image
The Galactus Seed, created by Eternity, played a key role in the origins of Asgard and the Marvel Universe. Recent comics revealed a new purpose for the seed, leading to the creation of the deadly Black Stone. There are hints that the Galactus Seed may exist in the MCU, tying into the upcoming introduction of Galactus and the Fantastic Four.

Many artifacts and weapons throughout the Marvel Comics Universe have made a major impact on the direction that the comics take, but few have been as significant as the Galactus Seed. From the Ultimate Nullifier to the Infinity Stones, all-powerful pieces of tech and naturally occurring creations have become the center of many Marvel events. Yet, the Galactus Seed has rarely been a focus in the comics or the MCU.

The Galactus Seed first appeared in 2011's The Mighty Thor Volume 2 #1, written by Matt Fraction, penciled by Olivier Coipel, inked by Mark Morales,...

I Wish X-Men's Krakoa Era Could Last Forever, But I'm Convinced We Just Got Its Best Possible Ending
Image
Krakoa was a flawed utopia that inspired hope and reflection on complex issues, making the Krakoan Age unforgettable for X-Men fans. The X-Men's era under Hickman was a beloved masterpiece that ended in a bittersweet, but satisfying way in X-Men #35, honoring its legacy. While New Krakoa offers a beacon of hope for mutants, the X-Men's duty to protect Earth's mutants meant they could never abandon their original home.

I really, truly loved the Krakoan Age of the X-Men, and I am devastated that one of the X-Men's most creative, inspiring, and bold eras is now officially over. However, I firmly believe that the ending that the X-Office gave to the Krakoan Age in X-Men #35 was the best possible conclusion to the era given the circumstances, keeping the hope of Krakoa alive while honoring its brilliant legacy.

While I loved the X-Men as a child - particularly the X-Men Evolution animated...

X-Men's Nightcrawler Just Turned His Powers into an R-Rated Weapon
Image
In the final battle against Apocalypse, Nightcrawler uses his teleportation powers to remove the villain's eyes. Nightcrawler's rage is understandable - the last five years have seen him betrayed by every parental figure he's ever had. However, even Nightcrawler's brutal attack isn't as vicious as how his children use their powers - for example, his son Salamander uses his teleportation to attack his enemies with burning plasma.

Warning: contains spoilers for X-Men #35!As the X-Men's 2019-2024 Krakoan Age officially ends, Earth's mutants fight for survival one last time - with the good-natured hero Nightcrawler striking a particularly gory blow against their latest enemy. X-Men #35 acts as the finale to the Krakoan Era, during which all mutants banded together as a single nation, regardless of past alliances and antagonism. As mutantkind says goodbye to its dream of living in peace and unity - at least for the time being -...

10 Secret Powers of Wonder Woman's Lasso of Truth You Never Knew Existed
Image
Wonder Woman's lasso can compel obedience, dispel evil gods, and break language barriers. The lasso of truth can regenerate Wonder Woman and generate destructive flames. It can see through illusions, break mind control, and crush a person's soul when used by Genocide.

One of the most iconic weapons in superhero comics is Wonder Woman's lasso of truth. It's been parodied for years and is instantly recognizable. While everyone knows that the lasso of truth can compel people to tell the truth, not many people know the actual extent of its powers.

Superman has dozens of powers between his super strength, super speed, flight, heat vision, and ice breath. Likewise, Batman has an unbelievable amount of gadgets that he uses for every situation under the sun. While Wonder Woman has varied powers, such as super speed and strength, most people believe her lasso of truth can only compel the truth from people.

Cannes goes to the dogs as Messi from Anatomy of a Fall gets his own TV show at the annual film festival
Image
I hope they serve biscuits and dog food at the Cannes Film Festival because Messi, the Border Collie from Justin Triet’s Academy Award-winning drama Anatomy of a Fall, is making his way to the annual celebration of film in France. D18 Paris says Messi is getting his own short program at Cannes, though it’s separate from the festival lineup. According to its description, the experience allows audiences to observe the fest “through the eyes and the voice of Messi.”

“This will be an opportunity for Messi to ask his guest any questions with the innocence of a dog,” says D18 Paris. “When you’re the current international star, you can do anything… and Messi dares to do it all!”

Referred to as the George Clooney of dogs, Messi is Hollywood’s good boy with better manners than most actors. Still, what is the Messi TV show? Messi: The...

Messi the ‘Anatomy of a Fall’ Dog Is Getting His Own TV Show — Set at Cannes
Image
Cannes is going to the dogs.

Messi, the breakout dog star of “Anatomy of a Fall,” is getting his own short program that will during the 2024 Cannes Film Festival, producer D18 Paris announced. It will be set at the festival, but not part of the festival lineup. But hey, we say give him the the Palme d’Or too — though he’d probably settle for a Milk-Bone.

The program will allow viewers to experience the Cannes Film Festival from dawn until late night “through the eyes and the voice of Messi,” D18, which referred to the pooch as “the canine George Clooney,” said in a press release. In our book, that’s high praise for George Clooney.

“This will be an opportunity for Messi to ask his guest any questions with the innocence of a dog,” it continued. “When you’re the current international star, you can do anything… and...

Messi the Dog Did Indeed Make It to the Oscars
Image
Messi the Dog, the Anatomy of a Fall star and awards season darling, did, in fact, make an appearance at the 2024 Oscars on Sunday.

A source had previously told The Hollywood Reporter that Messi would not be appearing at the Academy Awards after his Los Angeles press tour that saw him attend the Oscars nominees luncheon and partake in a press junket.

The dog’s surprise appearance during the 2024 Oscars took place within the first few minutes of the telecast, as returning host Jimmy Kimmel kicked off his opening monologue by praising the “great” films that were made in 2023, despite the dual actors and writers strikes that shut down Hollywood.

While poking fun at the best picture nominees including Barbie, Oppenheimer, Maestro and more, Kimmel stopped at Robert Downey Jr. and joked about how he played a villain in The Shaggy Dog, which starred Tim Allen. He noted if they were to remake the film,...

Cyclops' Powers Turn the X-Men's Jet into One of Marvel's Most Powerful Weapons
Image
The X-Men's Blackbird jet is designed to weaponize Cyclops' optic blasts, with Scott able to hook himself into its weapon system. Cyclops' mutant ability includes amazing accuracy, making him better than any automated aiming system. The Blackbird is also equipped with advanced Shi'ar technology, invisibility capabilities, and Cerebro technology for locating mutants worldwide.

While DC's Batmobile may be the most famous superhero vehicle, the X-Men's Blackbird jet is just as deserving of love from fans, particularly because of how it's designed to weaponize Cyclops' optic blasts. First appearing in 1977, the Blackbird is a high-tech jet which ferries the mutant heroes around the world, and typical of Charles Xavier's surprisingly advanced tech, it's designed to incorporate mutant powers into its operation.

In Chip Zdarsky and Terry Dodson's X-Men + Fantastic Four #3, the Ff infiltrate the mutant island of Krakoa, believing Cyclops' team may have kidnapped their son Franklin. However,...

After Becoming an Internet Sensation, The Dog from Anatomy of a Fall is Being Banned from Attending the Oscars

The beloved canine actor Messi from the Oscar-nominated film Anatomy Of A Fall is reportedly not attending the ceremony. The border collie was a fan favorite and had even racked up some love at the Oscars luncheon with actors such as Bradley Cooper and Ryan Gosling. Fans of the canine stare were reportedly disappointed with the news.

While no official comment was given by the Academy, an insider revealed that many production companies were not happy with the way the dog from the film received attention from potential voters. The Oscars are one of the most anticipated events of the year as they end the awards season. Many of the past year’s nominees have the finale to end their run on a high as they campaign across award shows to win the coveted trophies.

Anatomy of a Fall's Canine Star Banned From Oscars After Complaints

Messi the dog is not permitted to attend the Academy Awards.

In the Oscar-nominated film Anatomy of a Fall, Messi was featured in the role of Snoop, a lovable guide dog. Because the canine stole the show for many filmgoers, Messi had been honored with the Palm Dog Award at 2023's Cannes Film Festival. More recently, Messi attended the Oscars luncheon and captured the attention of many nominated actors and filmmakers who are up for big awards. However, per THR, it's been revealed that Messi won't be following this up with an appearance at the Academy Awards ceremony.

Messi, the dog from Anatomy of a Fall, will not be attending the Academy Awards
Image
The countdown to the Academy Awards is winding down, and while many are debating about who got snubbed and why, one of the stars of this year’s Best Picture nominees is capturing the hearts of everyone. Messi, the border collie who stole scenes in the film Anatomy of a Fall, would continue to steal the spotlight — this time, from Hollywood A-listers — at the annual Academy Awards nominee luncheon. The dog’s trainer/owner, Laura Martin, would glow about Messi’s experience at the event, “The big moment was with Billie Eilish, who bonded with Messi for almost 10 minutes. They were hugging and petting and they really had a vibe. Then Bradley Cooper bumped into him in the hallway. The dog went right to him, so they also had a connection.”

Not to mention, the pooch also rubbed elbows with Ryan Gosling in a viral video where the Barbie star was quite taken by Messi.

The history of Wakanda has revealed another new Black Panther costume. Marvel's Voices: Wakanda Forever #1 has revealed an older suit for the hero, creating a bridge between two incredible comic series. How the At&T-Time Warner Decision Could Change the Future of Big Media Mergers
A lot is riding on U.S. District Judge Richard Leon’s decision to either approve or deny At&T’s $85.4 billion acquisition of Time Warner — a ruling expected to be made on Tuesday.

On the line is the future of one of the country’s largest media and entertainment companies, Time Warner, and that of the biggest telecom company, At&T. But it’s more than just these two multibillion-dollar companies hanging in the balance — Leon’s decision could also alter the course of Disney and Fox’s looming $52 billion merger as well as other efforts to consolidate media giants.

Cfra analyst Tuna Amobi said this has the potential to be a landmark ruling.

Ed Catto: The Power of Walter Simonson
In 1977, the Syracuse Post Standard blazed the headline “Comic Book Confab Listed” to announce the second Ithaca Comic Convention. Actually, I think it would be more appropriate to say they whispered the headline. It was scrunched in the middle of a crowded page. The article listed professional comic guests such as Walter Simonson and Al Milgrom. I’m not one-hundred percent sure if that’s how my family found out about that second Ithaca Comic Con way back then. It may have been from seeing a flyer on the bulletin board at Fay’s Drug Store. That used to be a legitimate marketing venue too. But the big takeaway is that back then, the concept of a comic-con certainly wasn’t understood.

“People meet to buy and sell old funny books?” The very notion sounded absurd.

Today’s comic conventions and “cons” are part of the nation’s everyday lexicon.

When longtime comic book collectors fondly reminisce the 1990’s, something that may very well come up is that of WildStorm. Serving as a testament to the prolific career of the legendary Jim Lee, the imprint was actually started while he was still working at Image – a company he co-founded, mind you – before becoming a part of DC in 1999.

In short order, the label enthralled readers with original properties such as WildCATs, Stormwatch and The Authority. Or, if that didn’t do it for you, perhaps you dug their A Nightmare on Elm Street or Resident Evil tie-ins, the latter of which was especially meaningful to me because it was one of the survival horror franchise’s first ventures outside of the video game medium.

But, as you know, all good things must come...

Justice League #52

Story: Dan Jurgens Art: Tom Grummett, Danny Miki, Mark Morales, Scott Hanna Colors: Gabe Eltaeb

Review: This really could have been Action Comics Rebirth #1 since it essentially takes place right before the series restarted its numbering under the “Rebirth” branding. Jurgens tells the story of why Lex returned, leaving Apokalips and taking on the mantle of Superman. The story sets the status quo of where Lex is mentally at the moment,...

Comic Book Review: Wonder Woman #1
Wonder Woman has now begun her journey to discover the “truth” about her past. This has taken her to Bwanda where she is actually seeking help from one of her rouges to help her with a very interesting problem. She cannot remember the location of Themyscira. Coincidentally, Steve Trevor is on a mission in the same area trying to take down a man called Cadulo and his fighters. We just know that Steve is trying to stop Cadulo from reaching a specific target and that there may be more to him than meets the eye. This is evident when a villager tells Steve that “Cadulo turns even the earth against the righteous”. I think there is more to that statement than the book leads us to believe. It will be interesting to see how Wonder Woman’s journey as well as Steve’s mission connects as the story moves forward.

Martha Thomases: Black Panther Is Back And…
When I went to my local comic book shop on Wednesday morning, I did, as always, chat up my buddy on the other side of the counter. “Did you read Black Panther yet?” I asked him. “Is it any good?”

“Not yet,” he said.

“My editor wants me to write a review, and I’ve never read any other Black Panther comics,” I said.

“Don’t worry,” he said. “No one else has, either.”

Okay, I doubt that’s true. There have been comics with the Black Panther in them for five decades now. The character wouldn’t be used if he didn’t have a fan-base. That’s capitalism.

Speaking of, this new run of Black Panther has been getting tons of publicity. Marvel has done a terrific job, getting write-ups in The New York Times, The Washington Post, Wired, among others. That’s because the writer is Ta Nehisi Coates,...

‘Star Wars’ #6 One Fun Fight For The Issue, Two Big Developments For the Series
Written by Jason Aaron

Art by John Cassaday

Colors by Laura Martin

Published by Marvel Comics

Writing a Boba Fett fight scene must be tricky, due to the disconnect between his portrayal in the films and everywhere else. On screen, there’s not much to Boba Fett. In Empire Strikes Back, the audience is told he’s dangerous but he doesn’t really do much but look cool, and then in Return of the Jedi, he has brief fight with Luke before a jet pack malfunction sends him to his seeming death inside the Sarlaac Pit (An “over-reliance on technology” message George Lucas would repeat with Boba’s dad in Attack of the Clones). From the films alone, Boba Fett is a cool looking character with a great reputation who, at best, doesn’t do much and, at worse, is kind of a chump.

But fandom latched onto the character,...

‘Star Wars’ #5 Is The Series’ Strongest Issue Yet
Star Wars #5

Written by Jason Aaron

Art by John Cassaday

Letters by Chris Elipoulos

Published by Marvel Comics

Boba Fett is, essentially, the Star Wars’ universe version of Wolverine, two tremendously popular characters who built their following on the basis of a cool image, a mysterious past, and a tough guy mindset, whose popularity grew to the point that they came to dominate their respective franchises while everything that made them intriguing in the first place suffered for their ubiquity. That said, good stories can still be told featuring both characters, and with this issue, Jason Aaron and John Cassaday set out to prove it with Boba Fett.

While Han reluctantly joins Leia on a scouting mission for a new Rebel base, Luke returns to Tatooine, hoping to find some guidance for furthering his Jedi training from Obi-Wan Kenobi’s home. Unbeknownst to Luke, Boba Fett is also on Tatooine,...

‘A-Force’ #1 punches out the patriarchy with pop art
A-Force #1

Written by Marguerite Bennett and G. Willow Wilson

Pencilled by Jorge Molina

Inked by Jorge Molina and Craig Yeung

Colors by Laura Martin and Matt Milla

Published by Marvel Comics

A-Force #1 might not be the subtlest of comics, but it’s a big damn celebration of the great female superheroes that populate Marvel’s library of characters. The story is set in Arcadia, one of the lands of Battleworld, which was established in Secret Wars #2. It is ostensibly a matriarchal utopia ruled by Baroness She-Hulk, but, in fact, it is still under the control of God Emperor Doom, which instigates the conflict of the series.

Beginning with some hoity toity sounding voice-over narration, writers Marguerite Bennett and G. Willow Wilson build a utopia full of women enjoying equality in society with a variety of roles, but then they introduce the divine right monarchy of Doom, which causes some of these heroic women to compromise,...

What's Next After the Failed $45B Comcast-Time Warner Cable Merger
This story first appeared in the May 8 issue of The Hollywood Reporter magazine. To receive the magazine, click here to subscribe. Time Warner Cable Sell to charter! A bid from Charter, a smaller rival partially controlled by John Malone's Liberty Media, almost is inevitable. Investors are so sure of it that when the Comcast merger fell apart April 24, shares of TWC actually rose 4 percent to $155.26, about $4 less than Comcast was going to pay. But analyst Laura Martin of Needham is predicting that Charter's offer will be for no more than $135 a share. And

‘Astonishing X-Men’ Gifted is character driven superheroics at its finest
Astonishing X-Men #1-6 (2004)

Written by Joss Whedon

Art by John Cassaday

Colors by Laura Martin

Published by Marvel Comics

Astonishing X-Men “Gifted” is one of those storylines that will make long term X-Men fans purr with delight beginning the Claremont era flashbacks in issue one. (Cassaday mimics Byrne’s art quite well.) It also can turn fans (like me five years ago) of the films and cartoons into mutie and comics junkies. Whedon pays homage to older X-Men stories without getting mired in continuity and quickly places his own stamp on the franchise by creating a new alien foe for them (Ord of the Breakworld), exploring the mutant as outsider metaphor with the cure of the X-gene, giving Shield a new branch (Sword), and also bringing a beloved character back from the dead (Colossus) in a touching, visceral way that serves the long term storyline. However, the best part of...

‘Star Wars’ takes a breath with issue #4
Star Wars #4

Written by Jason Aaron

Art and Cover by John Cassaday

Colors by Laura Martin

Published by Marvel Comics

Following the series’ initial, action-packed story arc, Jason Aaron and John Cassaday settle in for a relatively quiet fourth issue. This is a breath-taking issue, a chance for the creators to focus on characterization and set some plots in motion. To wit, there’s Luke Skywalker, dealing with the reality of his (non)status as a Jedi following his confrontation with Darth Vader in the first arc. Also, Princess Leia pushes the Rebel Alliance to strike ever harder back at the Empire with the unstated implication being that she’s trying to keep busy so as to avoid dealing with all the changes in her life wrought by the events of A New Hope. Meanwhile, Darth Vader is on Tatooine brokering a deal with Jabba the Hutt and a mysterious...

If Comcast Jettisons Time Warner Cable Offer, the Future Is "Clear as Mud"
After jumping through hoops to satisfy the FCC, the Department of Justice and skeptical lawmakers – though apparently too few hoops – it appears the mega-merger of Comcast and Time Warner Cable has been sidelined, perhaps permanently. The obvious question that analysts are trying to answer: What now? “This rocks the world of television,” says Laura Martin of Needham & Co. “We’ll be talking about this for six months. What will Comcast do next? What happens to TWC? How does this affect Disney, Fox, CBS and Viacom? What’s Charter’s move?” That last question refers to Charter Communications, the

Star Wars #3 Brings The Story To An Action Packed, But Abrupt End
Written by Jason Aaron

Art by John Cassaday

Colors by Laura Martin

Published by Marvel Comics

With this issue, Jason Aaron and John Cassaday wrap up the inaugural story of Marvel’s new Star Wars series. An action-orientated finale finds the Rebels fleeing from the surging fury of Darth Vader aboard their purloined At-at walker, desperate to reach the Millennium Falcon, as Luke does his best to ensure their mission wasn’t for naught. As a single issue, it’s all a bit rushed (particularly in the subplot with Threepio losing control of the Falcon to a group of scavengers, which added a nice bit of tension to last issue but doesn’t really payoff much here), but it’s to the larger story’s benefit that it only runs three issues. Overall, there’s not much plot here (Rebel mission goes south in part 1, they try to escape in...

‘Star Wars’ #2 Continues the Series’ Strong Sense of Fun
Star Wars #2

Written by Jason Aaron

Art by John Cassaday

Published by Marvel Comics

For obvious reasons, both the original Marvel series and Dark Horse’s various Star Wars titles generally tended to shy away from direct confrontations between Luke Skywalker and Darth Vader. Such encounters were the province of the films, and even after the cinematic saga had (seemingly) ended, there was, presumably, a desire to not water down their existing interactions too much by writing in a ton of off-screen battles. Both characters were staples of the Expanded Universe, but rarely interacted with one another directly.

Thus it was somewhat surprising that Jason Aaron and John Cassaday ended their mostly well-received first issue of Marvel’s new Star Wars series with Luke and Vader face-to-face, lightsabers drawn, a strong finish to a strong debut. With their second issue, the pair manage to effectively pay...

Star Wars #1 marks the return of the Star Wars license to Marvel Comics following parent-company Disney’s acquisiton of the Star Wars brand and the expiration of Dark Horse Comics’ license to the property (Dark Horse had been publishing Star Wars comics since 1991, while the first Star Wars comics launched at Marvel in 1977 with an adaptation of the first film which led to an ongoing series that ran for 110 issues; both sets of stories have since been rebranded as non-canonical “Legends”), the first of four new series (for now) to which Marvel intends to apply their not-unimpressive skills at comic book making to the Star Wars brand.

Roundtable Review of ‘Star Wars’ #1
Star Wars #1

Written by Jason Aaron

Colored by Laura Martin

Published by Marvel Comics

The biggest new release of 2015 (so far) is Marvel’s first endeavor into Star Wars comics for the first time since the 1980s. There are loads of variant covers, quite a few release parties, and rumored sales numbers around 1 million. Star Wars #1 is set after the destruction of the Death Star and features all the big name characters from the original trilogy. It also marks award winning artist John Cassaday’s return to interiors for the first time since his short run on Uncanny Avengers in 2012. Here is what several Sound on Sight writers (who happen to be in the same room Marvel Bullpen style) thought about this issue.

At the top of the story, we see Overseer Aggadeen, head of Cymoon 1’s armor corps factory, greet negotiators from Jabba the Hut.

Marvel brings Dark Horse Star Wars comics to comiXology
Anthony Daniels, Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill, James Earl Jones, David Prowse, and Kenny Baker in Star Wars: Épisode IV - Un nouvel espoir (1977)
Marvel Comics has added a host of classic Star Wars comics to comiXology.

The titles, which were published by Dark Horse Comics in the years that it controlled the Star Wars licence, have made their way to the digital comics app for the first time.

The releases include Legacy, the fan favourite Dark Empire, Brian Wood's recent Star Wars series and The Star Wars, which adapted the much-altered original draft of George Lucas's script.

Dark Horse does not make its titles available on Amazon-owned platform comiXology, preferring its own apps.

Marvel will return to publishing original Star Wars comics with Jason Aaron, John Cassaday, and Laura Martin's Star Wars series.

Star Wars #1 - which has received orders of over 1 million - will be released on January 14.

Triple H And Stephanie McMahon Say Ufc Is Not WWE Competition
WWE.com

There was a “Fireside Chat” with Triple H and Stephanie McMahon, along with WWE CFO George Barrios, hosted by Laura Martin at the Needham Interconnect Conference for investors in New York City. It was done as a way for WWE to talk about their business with potential investors. The chat was available for users that logged in on Tuesday although there really weren’t a lot of interesting things discussed. For those of us that are wrestling fans, it was likely a case of WWE going over the same stuff they always say about the WWE Network being $9.99 per month, all PPVs are available and so on.

When Triple H received a question about the Ufc as competition, that’s when he went on a bit of a rant talking about how they really aren’t competing with them. While he makes some good points, he is off base on a few things.
