‘Grantchester’ Drops Major Family Twist for Geordie — How Will He Respond?
Image
[Warning: The following contains Major spoilers for Grantchester Season 10 Episode 2.] Grantchester Season 10 may be set in 1962, but its second installment dove into issues of race and gender expression that are timely for today. Vicar Alphy Kottaram (Rishi Nair) and Detective Inspector Geordie Keating’s (Robson Green) case brought up a sensitive topic for the vicar and one of their suspects, an Indian woman combatting racism and sexism in the workplace but taking high-risk measures to succeed. Meanwhile, Geordie was hit with an unexpected twist involving his young son, David (Carter-Jae O’Neil), and the father failed to meet the important moment. Green previously teased to TV Insider that “past belief systems come to the surface, and that’s difficult for him to deal with” in Season 10, and that has come to pass with his son in this episode. The case of the week involved a murdered university student whose death was made to look like an accident. She...

LeVar Burton on $146M Star Trek: Tng Movie That Took Away Geordi’s Visor: “Other actors were relating to me very differently”
Image
Actor LeVar Burton has been a part of several known IPs, including Reading Rainbow and Jeopardy, but his most famous role is Star Trek: Tng. He played the chief engineer of the USS Enterprise-d, Geordie La Forge, in the show for seven seasons and four films (and Picard), and wore his signature Visor through most of it all.

The device that allowed the character, who was born blind, to see was reportedly painful for Burton to wear every day for seven years. The Visor was pinched to his temples and restricted his eyes, which really bothered him as an actor. LeVar Burton finally got freedom from the torture device in 1996’s Star Trek: First Contact.

Are The Accents In Peaky Blinders Accurate? It's Complicated
Image
As a Brit, I've always been fascinated by the huge array of regional dialects packed into a relatively small space on our islands. Every country has different accents, of course, but it's remarkable how an accent can change so dramatically in the U.K. over such short distances. Just listen to the difference between Scouse and Manc with only 35 miles separating Liverpool and Manchester. All our radically different accents provide fuel for endless banter, and everyone has their favorites and least favorites. Personally, I can listen to people from Newcastle, Yorkshire, and Wales talk all day, but I'm not a big fan of Essex (partly due to local rivalry as a Tractor Boy from Suffolk) and the Birmingham accent, or Brummie.

Which brings us to "Peaky Blinders," the hugely popular BBC crime drama set in Birmingham in the early 20th century. That location makes the show something of an anomaly for British TV,...

There's a new vicar in Grantchester, and he has some big shoes to fill if he wants to be a suitable replacement for Will Davenport (Tom Brittney). A British crime drama most viewers have probably never heard of, Grantchester is an ITV detective drama set in the 1950s Cambridgeshire village of Grantchester. There, an overworked and exhausted Detective Inspector, Geordie Keating (Robson Green), solves crimes in the area. Based on The Grantchester Mysteries, a series of short stories by author James Runcie, the show first premiered on ITV in 2014. Grantchester later moved to Amazon Prime Video, where it gained even more acclaim and support over its 9 seasons. There have been some major cast changes along the way, as well. Warning: finale plot spoilers for Grantchester season nine.

Grantchester season nine started with Will Davenport (Tom Brittney) finding out that he’s being reassigned to Newcastle to serve a parish that needs strong leadership. Reverend Alphy Kotteram (Rishi Nair) arrives to fill the vacancy but is met with suspicion and an incorrect accusation of breaking into the vicarage as no one left him a key. Alphy is initially hesitant to help Geordie with his cases due to past negative encounters with police. However, a family feud between parishioners leads Alphy to realize that Geordie is interested in the truth, not personal power.

As the season progresses, it becomes clear there is one overarching mystery that connects several of the cases Alphy and Geordie worked on together. With spoilers ahead (especially for UK viewers who are still awaiting an air date), let’s break down what happens in the season finale.

Image
[Warning: The below contains spoilers for Grantchester Season 9, Episode 2.] The very last scene that Tom Brittney shot on location in the village of Grantchester was the final one of the June 23 episode of Grantchester. In it, his character, departing vicar Will Davenport, said a heartfelt goodbye to the man who had become his best friend and sleuthing partner on the long-running Masterpiece mystery series, police detective Geordie Keating (Robson Green). Will found Geordie strolling through lush Grantchester Meadows, a place the pair had often spent time walking and talking. Now, they hugged and said “I love you” before Will spoke his final words, “Geordie, I hope I made you proud.” His companion’s reply was filled with affection: “Every day, son. Every day.” With that, the two men walked off in opposite directions, and Grantchester bid farewell to Vicar No. 2. It wasn’t an easy scene for Brittney, who joined the well-loved PBS show in 2019 and...
