Biography

Alvin Case

Edit

Biography

    • Writer-director Alvin Case, debuted onto the independent movie scene with his extremely low-budget French language feature, The Whirlpool in 2012. Case also produced and did all of the cinematography. The Whirlpool premiered at the 2012 International Film Festival Rotterdam and screened in competition at Portugal's FEST-New Directors/New Films.

Born in Dominican Republic, Case grew up in Queens, New York. He studied fine art in college and worked as an art handler in Boston and NYC before making his first movie. Case's second film Sun Opener was made as a gonzo road movie over six days during the summer of 2012 and completely improvised, featuring great views of Robert Smithson's "Spiral Jetty" earthwork, and a brilliant musical soundtrack by the Philadelphia rock band (The Sounds Of) Kaleidoscope. Case then made back to back science-fiction themed films Analogue and Game For Motel Room, before taking a break from narrative works to pursue a string of documentary films. .

Working with a small intimate team of crew and staff, he was hired by the producer Debra Cooke to direct the feature In The Moon's Shadow in 2017, one of the few features to capture a dramatic scene during a total solar eclipse.
