It Starts On The Page (Limited): Read ‘Adolescence’ Episode 3 Script With Foreword By Stephen Graham & Jack Thorne
Image
Editor’s note: Deadline’s It Starts on the Page (Limited) features 10 standout limited or anthology series scripts in 2025 Emmy contention.

Netflix’s Adolescence has enthralled viewers and captivated fellow filmmakers with its arresting story of a 13-year-old who is suddenly taken into custody one early morning for the murder of a female classmate.

The British series from creators Stephen Graham and Jack Thorne employs the same one-shot style over the course of the four, edge-of-your-seat episodes — a technique that’s become somewhat of a calling card for Adolescence director Philip Barantini, working with cinematographer Matthew Lewis. But it’s not just the camera work that has made Adolescence such a runaway hit, ranking as Netflix’s third most-watched English-language series of all time with 137.8 million views since its March 13 release.

It’s Owen Cooper’s portrayal of the troubled teen Jamie drawn into the online manosphere as he and...

Stephen Graham and Owen Cooper in Adolescence (2025)
How Adolescence Mastered the One-Shot Filming Technique: A Game-Changer for TV?
Stephen Graham and Owen Cooper in Adolescence (2025)
Adolescence, Netflix’s gripping four-part drama, is not just another crime thriller—it’s a cinematic experiment that pushes the boundaries of storytelling. Directed by Philip Barantini (Boiling Point), the series is shot entirely in one continuous take per episode. That’s right—no cuts, no retakes, just pure, uninterrupted storytelling. This bold technique creates a raw, immersive experience that puts viewers right in the middle of the action, making every second feel urgent and real.

A Filmmaking Feat Like No Other

The concept of shooting an entire episode in a single take is ambitious and rarely attempted in television. While long-take sequences have been used in films like 1917 and Birdman, Adolescence takes it to another level by committing to this approach for the entire series.

Director Philip Barantini explains the challenge:

“Basically that means we press record on the camera, and we don’t press stop until the very end of the hour.

Brothers Stars Peter Dinklage & Josh Brolin Reveal Why They Made a Comedy
Image
Prime Video's Brothers is not the movie fans expect Josh Brolin or Peter Dinklage to make. The two actors are very much known for their serious roles in some of the biggest films and TV of all time. Academy Award nominee Brolin's credits include playing Thanos in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and starring in Jonah Hex, while Dinklage is a fan-favorite from HBO's Game of Thrones and Tubi's grim Western The Thicket. So what possessed the two of them to make an outrageous comedy?

Cbr spoke to the two actors about how they'd wanted to work together on a project before Brothers. They also discussed why they wanted their first collaboration to be a comedy, and what they consider the highlights of the movie. Plus, why do they consider all of the characters in the film to be "extreme"?

Cbr: The two of you had wanted to find something to do together.

Brendan Fraser's Performance in Brothers Is His Funniest in 30 Years
Image
Quick Links Brendan Fraser Has Always Been an Underrated Comedic Actor Brendan Fraser Gives His Best Comedic Performance Yet in Prime's Brothers

Brendan Fraser has had a fascinating and, at times, tragic career trajectory since his first feature film appearance in 1992's Encino Man. Brendan Fraser thrived in the '90s and was looking to become a big star, appearing in fan-pleasing comedies such as Airheads (1994) and action films like The Mummy (1999). However, the 2000s and 2010s saw significant challenges for the actor on both a personal and professional level, with many of his movies falling short of expectations, health issues, and blacklisting after being sexually assaulted (People).

Despite Fraser's problems within the industry and personal struggles, the actor has since seen a resurgence in popularity. This was brought on by his innate skills as a performer, yet his charms as a person have certainly gone a long way...

Josh Brolin & Peter Dinklage's Brothers is Amazon Prime's Top Streaming Movie
Image
Prime Videos new action comedy, Brothers, has debuted at the top of the Prime Video chart. Starring Josh Brolin, Peter Dinklage, and Glenn Close, the movie sees the three former Marvel actors on screen together for the first time, but hasnt exactly been pulling in reviews that match the caliber of its stars from either critics or viewers.

Like many new streaming releases, Brothers has very easily found a way to the top of Prime Videos movie chart, overtaking crime drama Killer Heat and the steamy Zendaya-led hit Challengers. The film is a road trip movie that finds going-straight criminal Moke Munger (Brolin) and his wayward brother Jady (Dinklage) looking for the biggest score of their lives. However, nothing is going to be that simple and chaos ensues as the pair attempt to avoid being arrested, shot, or beaten to death by the tongue of their overbearing mother (Close). While...

Brothers Review: Josh Brolin & Peter Dinklage's Inferior Twins Riff Is Frustratingly Dull
Image
It should be impossible to look at Brothers and not make a parallel with Ivan Reitman's Twins (1988), because of the differences between its lead actors, Peter Dinklage and Josh Brolin. But there are far more similarities than that: there's criminality, a debt-chasing villain, sharp flashes of violence, and a road trip to reconnect with an absent mother. There's also the actual difference between the brothers: who they are inside.

The subtlety of Reitman's Twins was not in mining the comedy potential of Arnold Schwarzenegger and Danny DeVito's physical appearances as much as their different backgrounds. Mercifully, Brothers follows a similar trend, avoiding making cheap jokes to explore the sensibility clash between the delightfully named Jady (Dinklage) and Moke (Brolin). That shouldn't really come as a surprise to anyone who saw Barbakow's Palm Springs (itself incessantly likened to Groundhog Day).

‘Daily Beast’ New D.C. Chief Quits — After Only Five Weeks
Image
The Daily Beast’s Washington bureau chief has quit just five weeks after being hired, Hot Source has learned, leaving the site without a political editor just months before the election. His departure comes as most unionized journalists at the publication are preparing to flee at the end of next week after taking generous buyouts.

Martin Pengelly joined The Daily Beast last month from The Guardian, where he had served for 20 years. The well-regarded editor had become known as “the books guy” thanks to his almost uncanny ability to snag copies of buzzy books before their publication dates. Pengelly resigned from his new post late last week, but chief content and creative officer Joanna Coles and publisher and CEO Ben Sherwood (known to staffers as “Boanna”) begged him to keep the news from colleagues and continue working until next Friday, when nearly two dozen staffers who accepted the buyout are expected to leave the publication.

Joe Scarborough, Willie Geist, and Mika Brzezinski in Morning Joe (2007)
‘Morning Joe’ Host Mika Brzezinski Backs Scarborough’s Bob Iger Theory: DeSantis Made ‘Such a Rookie Move’ (Video)
Joe Scarborough, Willie Geist, and Mika Brzezinski in Morning Joe (2007)
According to “Morning Joe” host Mika Brzezinski, Ron DeSantis’ continuing fight with Disney isn’t simply a political misstep. It’s a rookie move.

“Joe was right,” Brzezinski said Friday during Friday morning’s broadcast, backing previous statements made by her co-host Scarborough saying, “Mickey Mouse has brass knuckles because he’s taking on Bob Iger… You don’t do that.”

“This is politically such a rookie move to do these gesture politics, to try and own the libs and maybe get in a small subset of the Tampa area,” Brzezinski said Friday. “In the end, you end up costing Florida jobs.”

The MSNBC host added that the Florida governor “can’t see one foot in front of his face.” “I don’t know how that plays on the big stage, and I think it gives Trump a lot of material.”

On Thursday, Disney announced it had pulled the plug...
