Come on now. With the sound effects and everything in this movie trailer, Battleship could easily be called Transformers 4 or Skyline 2. With Transformers: Dark of the Moon being the worst of the three live-action transformers films, making your film sound like that film may be an error in judgement.

Speculation on the Transformers: Dark of the Moon connection:

I expect …that the similarity to Transformers is being amped up for the trailer in order to sell the movie to the same audience that helped Dark of the Moon earn a billion dollars worldwide.

Still, we don’t know what the film is about, but it’ll be in 3D. Battleship producers certainly took a few queues from Michael Bay at the beginning of this teaser trailer. It must be really cold on the beach at night. Battleship could be Skyline all over again: Great trailer with great effects, rancid film. On another movie website, someone quipped that they didn’t know Transformers 4 had already been made. The viewer will see what prompted that hilarious wise crack during the last third of this teaser trailer.

The Colombiana Movie Trailer has premiered. Olivier Megaton‘s Colombiana (2011), produced by Luc Besson, stars Zoe Saldana, Michael Vartan, Jordi Mollà, Lennie James, and Cliff Curtis. Colombiana‘s plot synopsis: “Cataleya Restrepo (Zoe Saldana) works for her uncle Emilio (Cliff Curtis) as a hitman by day, but her personal time is spent engaging in vigilante murders that she hopes will lead her to her ultimate target: the mobster responsible for her parents’ death.” After what Luc Besson was able to create with The Professional and Taken, is it any wonder that the trailer for Colombiana heralds a action film that looks this good. “No Sir!” There is a great score to the movie trailer as well. All things being equal though, The Mechanic remake looked good as well and it turned out to be generic and forgettable. Colombiana looks like a mixture of Hanna, The American, and Lucky Number Slevin.

Jason Connery’s Area 51 – previously titled 51 – is set to debut February 26th on the Syfy Channel as part of the After Dark Originals lineup. We caught up with the actor-turned-director to chat about his contribution to the terrain of cinematic extraterrestrials. Dig it!

Chris Haberman: You shot entirely in Louisiana - How did the shoot go?

Jason Connery: “It was great. It’s obviously slightly strange to shoot a film that’s [set] in the desert in a swamp, but a lot of the work was interior and we shot in a disused mattress factory, which actually had a huge warehouse. So we had an exterior in the back, which looked like a military air base.”

Ch: I spoke with [51 actress] Rachel Miner, who was impressed with how much you were able to do and so quickly.

Jc: “The thing is, the first film I shot, I had 12 days to shoot it.

SyFy and After Dark are making quite the team. They premiered Husk, which was met with great success. So I guess they figured they’d keep showing the After Dark flicks on their Saturday Night premieres. They are a great substitute for the SyFy pictures originals that deal with the combining of two animals into one. The latest one is 51, which is set to premiere on the network this Saturday, February 26th....
