Born in New York and raised outside of Philadelphia, Richard had his first publication in an academic journal while attending grad school at Boston College. He moved into the tabletop role-playing industry with White Wolf Game Studios of Atlanta, then joined video game company Red Storm Entertainment in 1999. He remained with Red Storm and its parent company, Ubisoft, through 2022, working on dozens of titles across multiple studios. In 2023 he joined Crytek as the Franchise Narrative Director for the horror game Hunt: Showdown 1896, leaving at the end of 2024. Richard also helped found the IGDA Game Writers' Special Interest Group, and has served on the advisory boards for the Game Narrative Summit and the East Coast Game Conference. He has published eight novels and two short story collections. He lives in North Carolina.
