The History Channel is doubling down on stars in its docuseries.

The A+E Global Media-owned cable network has ordered a slew of series featuring the likes of David Duchovny, Henry Winkler and Ving Rhames. This is on top of a new show with American Pickers’ Mike Wolfe and a new documentary from LeBron James’ Uninterrupted.

Secrets Declassified with David Duchovny is hosted by The X-Files star and will reveal the latest evidence behind some of the government’s most secretive activities that have been declassified throughout history. Produced by Jane Root’s Nutopia in association with GroupM Entertainment, the ten-part series will premiere on April 4. Duchovny, Peter Lovering, Jane Root, Simon Willgoss, Richard Foster, Chet Fenster, Eli Lehrer, Mary E. Donahue and Max Micallef exec produce.

‘How Disney Built America’ Series Explores Walt’s Legacy

The History Channel’s How Disney Built America dives into the history of the Disney brand and its impact on generations of fans. The six-episode nonfiction series is set to premiere April 28, 2024 at 10pm Et/Pt, with new episodes arriving on Sundays.

Produced by A+E Factual Studios group, the new addition to the network’s That Built franchise is executive produced by Sharon Scott, Steve Ascher, Matthew Pearl, Kristy Sabat, and Andy Seestedt. The History Channel’s Mary E. Donahue, Jim Pasquarella, and Alex Hicks also serve as executive producers.

LeBron James to Produce Three History Channel Docs Including ‘Triumph: Jesse Owens and the Berlin Olympics’ (Exclusive)

The History Channel has expanded its partnership with the SpringHill Company, the production company founded by LeBron James and Maverick Carter, by ordering three new documentary projects.

The first title is “Triumph: Jesse Owens and the Berlin Olympics” (working title), which will tell the story of the the 1936 Summer Olympics in Berlin, Germany, which was shadowed by Hitler’s white supremacist agenda, when Black track and field athlete Jesse Owens made history by winning four gold medals. Directed by Andre Gaines and narrated by Don Cheadle, the two-hour documentary will feature archival footage, animation and interviews with journalists, historians and Owens daughters as well as athletes including Carl Lewis, Noah Lyles, Erriyon Knighton, and Christian Coleman, among others.

Dolly Parton Joins ‘Grace and Frankie’s’ Final Season (TV News Roundup)

Netflix announced that Dolly Parton will guest star on “Grace and Frankie’s” seventh and final season.

The streamer did not announce who she would be playing or how she would interact with stars Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin, though.

In the show, Fonda and Tomlin play rhe titular characters who found their lives turned upside down when their husbands revealed they were gay and left the women for each other.

June Diane Raphael, Brooklyn Decker, Baron Vaughn, Ethan Embry and Peter Gallagher will all reprise their roles in the final season.

The final season of “Grace and Frankie” dropped its first four episodes of the 16-episode season earlier this year, with the rest set to launch in 2022. The show will close out with 94 total episodes, making it Netflix’s longest-running original series to date.

History is doubling down on its “That Built” franchise with four spinoffs.

This comes after A+E Networks cable net launched the second season of The Food That Built America.

Elsewhere, the network has ordered a protest documentary from Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and moved its Bill Clinton series to 2022.

History is launching The Machines That Built America, The Toys That Built America, The Engineering That Built the World and The Titans That Built America. All, except the latter, come from Six West Media, the non-fiction producer owned by A+E Networks.

The Titans That Built America, which premieres on May 31, is a three-night miniseries that chronicles the rise and fierce rivalries of industrial heavy hitters William Boeing, Walter Chrysler, Jp Morgan Jr, and Pierre Du Pont. The History Channel is building out its popular “That Built” franchise with three more spinoffs: “The Machines That Built America,” “The Toys That Built America” and “The Engineering That Built the World.”

It has also ordered a new batch of “The Men Who Built America” episodes, though the cable channel has rebranded that one to be the gender-neutral “The Titans That Built America.”

With these new spinoffs, another in development and the currently airing Season 2 of “The Food That Built America,” the franchise now boasts six series.

History has set two new documentaries and a podcast dedicated to remembering the tragic events of Sept. 11, 2001 on Monday.

The hourlong documentaries, “9/11: The Final Minutes of Fight 93” and “9/11: The Pentagon,” will air back-to-back on Friday, Sept. 11 at 8 p.m. and 9 p.m. Et/Pt. Watch the teaser for the two specials above.

History plans two new hour-long documentaries and an original eight-part podcast devoted to coverage of the infamous events of September 11, 2001.

The two documentaries, “9/11: The Final Minutes of Fight 93” and “9/11: The Pentagon,” will debut Friday, September 11 at 8 pm. and 9 p.m. eastern, and will offer perspective on events that took place on United Flight 93 and at the Pentagon. The podcast, Blindspot: The Road to 9/11, is hosted by Wnyc reporter Jim O’Grady and is co-produced in partnership with Wnyc Studios. It will debut September 9, and weave together voices experts in intelligence and national security, as well asassociates of the terrorists involved in the incident.

A&e Orders 160 More ‘Live Pd’ Episodes, History Renews Both ‘Built America’ Series

History channel has renewed “The Men Who Built America” and “The Food That Built America” for second seasons, while sister network A&e has ordered 160 more episodes of “Live Pd.”

The “Live Pd” documentary series follows officers from police departments across America as they go about their nightly patrol. The series airs Friday and Saturday nights from 9 p.m. to 12 a.m. Et/Pt and is hosted by Dan Abrams with analysis from Tom Morris Jr. and Sgt. Sean ‘Sticks’ Larkin.

A+E Networks has been among the few to announce new programming for the coming year, given that the broadcast pilot season was shelved due to the pandemic, which has left the fate of many networks’ fall schedules twisting in the wind.

‘The Food That Built America’ Renewed For Season 2 By History

On the heels of strong ratings for season one, History has renewed its popular nonfiction series The Food That Built America that centers on the food titans who shaped America. The network has ordered 18 one-hour episodes for season 2.

The series drew 18.8 million total viewers in the first season. History will team with food author and TV personality Adam Richman for Season 2, which looks at a new group of bold pioneers behind iconic food empires such as Oreos, Frito Lay, Reese’s, Pizza Hut, and more. In addition to presenting facts and anecdotes about some of our country’s favorite brands, the series will also lean into America’s nostalgia for food and highlight the product inspiration and numerous trials, triumphs and tribulations endured by the food entrepreneurs whose grit and determination helped them persevere, per History.

History Channel to Reboot ‘Ax Men’
History Channel is rebooting “Ax Men,” with the working title “Ax Men Reborn.”

“Ax Men Reborn” is part of four new series pickups from the network, which includes “Brothers in Arms,” “Knight Fight,” “Yamashita’s Gold,” and “American Butcher.” The network also renewed “The Curse of Oak Island,” “The Curse of Civil War Gold,” “Truck Night in America,” “Alone,” “Swamp People,” and “Mountain Men.”

The original “Ax Men” ran for 9 seasons and 153 episodes 2008 to 2016.
