In addition to being a graduate of Columbia University, Aref has trained at the prestigious Stella Adler Studio of Acting in New York City. He has also trained at the The Neighborhood Playhouse (part time) focusing on the Meisner Technique (under instructor James Brill), and at The Labyrinth Theater Group. Aref has appeared in various TV commercials, plays and short films, including "The Professionals", which has been selected at several top international film festivals across the world, including Raindance Film Festival in 2010.
Aref made his film debut as the titular role in noted director Morshedul Islam's film "Anil Bagchir Ekdin" (A Day in the Life of Anil Bagchi) in 2015. He was awarded the prestigious Meril Prothom Alo Award for Best Actor (Film) - Critics' Choice for his performance. Aref made a special appearance in an important role in Rahsan Noor's Bengali Beauty in 2018. In 2020, Aref will be seen in the new action-drama film by Sunny Sanwar and Faisal Ahmed's "Mission Extreme".
