Donald Trump has nominated Tulsi Gabbard, the former Democratic congresswoman and Fox News contributor, as his next director of national intelligence.
The president elect also confirmed that Sen. Marco Rubio (R-fl) would be his choice for secretary of state, despite some unhappiness among some of his supporters over the choice. Some had been pushing for Ric Grenell, who served as Trump’s acting director of national intelligence in his first term, as well as U.S. ambassador to Germany.
Gabbard endorsed Trump’s presidential bid and joined the Republican party last month.
Trump said in a statement, “Tulsi has fought for our Country and the Freedoms of all Americans. As a former Candidate for the Democrat Presidential Nomination, she has broad support in both Parties – She is now a proud Republican! I know Tulsi will bring the fearless spirit that has defined her illustrious career to our Intelligence Community, championing our Constitutional Rights,...

As the November election looms, director Emily Harrold isn’t focusing on the U.S. political divide. Instead, she’s turning to five politicians who decided to work together despite their party affiliations: South Carolina’s “Sister Senators.”
Margie Bright Matthews, Katrina Shealy, Mia McLeod, Penry Gustafson and Sandy Senn started collaborating in the wake of the Dobbs decision – the U.S. Supreme Court ruling that ended the constitutional right to abortion – and because they realized there’s strength in numbers.
“I’m from South Carolina and I didn’t realize there were only five women in the South Carolina senate. Honestly, I felt a little embarrassed. It’s just so rare to see people of different political persuasions that like and respect each other. It’s a real sisterhood,” says Harrold.

On the set of CNN’s “NewsNight,” guests may not be certain whether they should shake hands or ball them up into fists.
When the cameras are off on the set of anchor Abby Phillip’s program, the atmosphere matches that of a nice dinner party.
Before the 10 p.m. show even got on the air one night last week, producers offer panelist Ana Navarro a pillow to sit on so the diminutive commentator seems like she’s matched — at least optics-wise — with her neighboring guests Olivia Nuzzi and Bryan Lanza. And in the middle of one commercial break, conservative analyst Scott Jennings is heard to remark that he’s found a new friend — the progressive figure Nina Turner — in a declaration that surprises the producers who work on the program.
When the cameras start transmitting to viewers at home, however, it’s time to get real.

On his latest “Weekly Show” podcast, Jon Stewart railed against news outlets such as CNN and NBC, claiming that these “organizations that rely on access and transparency refuse to allow their reporters to come on [this] podcast and talk about the issues of the day.”
“Weekly Show” producer Brittany Mehmedovic chimed in on the difficulty of booking guests on the podcast, saying “it’s unlike anything I’ve really ever seen” in her decade working in journalism. “Phone calls go unanswered,” she said, referring to NBC. “It’s very ‘We’re going to politely decline on this.'”
Stewart said that individual reporters tell him they’d “love to do” the podcast but need to get “network approval,” which they say never comes. When the “Weekly Show” team seeks an explanation from the news outlet, Stewart and co. allegedly get “left on read.”

On the latest episode of his weekly news and commentary podcast, comic and pundit Jon Stewart says that major news organizations including NBC News and CNN are denying their reporters the chance to appear on his show, claiming they are then then stonewalling producers seeking an explanation for the decision.
At the top of the July 25 episode of his The Weekly Show podcast, Stewart introduces show producers, Brittany Medevac and Lauren Walker, as he explains how it has been difficult for the podcast to book pundits or journalists who work for these organizations. Frequently, reporters receive requests from other media brands to appear on television, radio and podcasts to guest on the shows and provide context, news analysis or commentary.
“Their organizations will not let them come on our podcast. Let that sink in for just a moment. Organizations that rely on access and transparency refuse to allow their reporters...

“I would think it’s an embarrassment to those news organizations,” said Jon Stewart today at the top of his The Weekly Show podcast.
Specifically, he was speaking about NBC and CNN which, he said, “refuse to allow their reporters to come on a podcast (his) to talk about the issues of the day.”
Stewart went on to detail the difficulty the show was having booking pundits from those two networks, saying, “it’s unlike anything I’ve really ever seen.”
Specifically, the once-a-week Daily Show host says that the reporters themselves want to come on the podcast but, when Stewart’s staff have made official requests, the networks “politely decline” without explanation.
“Let that sink in for just a a moment,” he continued, punctuating the irony. “Organizations that rely on access and transparency refuse to allow their reporters to come on podcast to talk about the issues of the day.

There’s only one topic in politics right now, and it’s all about Joe, as Bill Maher noted at the top of his show, then concluded in his “New Rules” closing editorial with a crystal clear statement: “He is not going to be the Democrat candidate in 2024.”
“What a time to be in America,” said Maher in his opening monologue. “I don’t know what to tell you. It’s harder to get this guy to pull out than Nick Cannon.” He then noted, “It’s like a horror movie you watch through your fingers.”
Maher said that every appearance now by Biden is characterized as “make or break,” saying, “It’s what it was like to be on the last tour with Glen Campbell.”
For those who insist that withdrawing from the presidential race has to be Biden’s choice, Maher added, “which is kind of like letting...

Jon Stewart is not backing down on his criticisms of President Joe Biden.
In Thursday’s episode of his “Weekly Show” podcast, he compares Biden to Donald Trump, during a conversation that features “Pod Save America” hosts Jon Favreau and Tommy Vietor and CNN political commentator Bakari Sellers. The four analyzed Biden’s performance in his recent debate with Trump as well as his subsequent refusal to consider stepping down as the Democratic Party’s nominee for the November election.
Stewart has said he is not necessarily joining the call for Biden to step down, but that the president should at least be open to discussing it.
It would be better, Stewart says in the episode, “if Joe Biden came out and said, ‘Look, I understand where I’m at in my lifespan and cycle and what I do. Here’s how this government works,’ rather than coming out and becoming Trumpian and saying,...

Tucker Carlson has, apparently, not known peace since the U.S. Census Bureau recently reported that the population is diversifying. He’s theorizing that Democrats are not only behind the country’s changing demographics but that non-white people are celebrating the decline of the white race.
Carlson wrestled with the new population data on a Friday night installment of “Tucker Carlson Tonight,” expressing his concerns surrounding the first drop in self-identified non-Hispanic whites in history and accusing non-white people of “cheering the extinction of white people.”

Updated with video: President Donald Trump pretty much secured the main talking point for this week’s Real Time With Bill Maher after a Wednesday press conference in which Trump refused to commit to a peaceful transfer of power if he loses the November election to Joe Biden.
The topic of the concern over whether Trump would refuse to vacate the White House peacefully has been front and center for Maher for almost two years. It came up time and time again in Friday night’s show, from pressing Sen. Bernie Sanders on what a plan might look like if Trump declined to exit in January if Biden wins, to clear frustration that it’s taken “mainstream media” outlets so long to catch up to his concerns.

Exclusive: Senator Kamala Harris has long been tight with Hollywood, and yesterday Tinseltown’s biggest donors handed over some very big bucks to the Democrats’ vice presidential nominee.
In a virtual fundraiser put together by Ryan Murphy, Disney TV Studios boss Dana Walden, PR ace Chrisette Hudlin and Laura Shell, California’s junior senator raked in over $8 million for her and Joe Biden’s poll leading White House bid.
Announced on August 27, the event put dough in the purse of the Biden Victory Fund, a joint committee of Joe Biden’s campaign, the Democratic National Committee and state parties. Going into the final 59 days before the election, yesterday’s fundraiser is one of the biggest hauls that Biden and his running mate Harris has raised this season. Featuring both ex-vp Biden and Sen. Dr. William Barber II saw that Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell was the first to eulogize the late John Lewis as he lay in state inside the Capitol rotunda on July 27th, the civil rights leader thought of Jesus admonishing the Pharisees. “We love the tombs of the prophets,” said Barber, paraphrasing Jesus in the New Testament. “We don’t need to be talking about how hard and how great it was that John Lewis stood so firm against injustice. What we need to be doing is repenting and saying,...

Both President Trump and Democratic candidate Michael Bloomberg purchased valuable Super Bowl air time for their presidential campaigns, and both ads featured an African American woman speaking about each politician.
Trump’s ad capitalizes on Alice Marie Johnson’s release from prison where she had served 21 years for attempted possession of cocaine and conspiracy to possess cocaine. Despite these being non-violent offenses and Johnson’s first conviction, she was serving a life sentence until Kim Kardashian personally lobbied the president for Johnson’s release during a 2018 meeting in the Oval Office.

Could the constitutional crisis gripping Washington represent an attack on Democracy? It certainly seemed plausible tonight watching HBO’s Real Time with Bill Maher, a show hosted by a human air-raid siren of the same name. Maher’s monologue went early and often to the Washington showdown over the Mueller report and the now-sprawling political subplots that lead back to it.
“I know, It’s very exciting when you have a constitutional crisis,” Maher deadpanned about the hyped-up audience. “We’re so f—-ed. I’m telling you, we’re so f—ed. Today, Venezuela put us on the travel advisory. If America were a summer blockbuster it would be Democracy: Endgame. If you missed the earlier installments of this franchise…”

Rep. Thomas Massie (R-ky) may have studied robotics at MIT, but he is now responsible for one of the most asinine moments in congressional history.
At a House committee hearing Tuesday on “The Need for Leadership to Combat Climate Change and Protect National Security,” the Kentucky Republican thought he could pwn former secretary of state John Kerry. Kerry is an expert on climate change who helped broker the Paris climate accord and recently criticized president Trump for proposing to set up a task force that seeks to counter the scientific consensus on climate change.

Don Lemon refused to back down from remarks earlier this week in which he accused “white men” of being the biggest terrorist threat America faces.
In a Ben Shapiro-esque monologue on his CNN program Wednesday evening, Lemon dropped what he called “the cold hard facts” and urged those upset to look at the evidence without “emotion.”
“Tonight I want to talk about some uncomfortable truth, the truth about who really carries out domestic terror attacks in this country,” said Lemon. “Let’s put emotion aside and look at the cold hard facts. The evidence is overwhelming.”

CNN anchor Don Lemon said it was important to stop demonizing individual groups over terrorism concerns, before immediately saying the real threat was from “white men.”
“We have to stop demonizing people and realize the biggest terror threat in this country is white men, most of them radicalized to the right, and we have to start doing something about them,” said Lemon during an appearance on “Cuomo Primetime” Tuesday evening. “There is no travel ban on them … they had the Muslim ban. There is no ‘white guy ban.’ So what do we do about that?”
“I keep trying to point out to people not to demonize any one group or any one ethnicity, but we keep thinking that the biggest terror threat is something else,” he reiterated, urging people to ignore the news of the migrant caravan slowly moving through Mexico toward the United States.

CNN host Don Lemon took heat on Thursday and Friday after doubling down on his show’s criticism of rapper Kanye West. On Thursday evening, Lemon said West’s Oval Office meeting with President Trump reminded him of a “minstrel show” and brought up West’s dead mother to make his point.
“What I saw was a Minstrel show today,” Lemon said making an unusual appearance on “The Situation Room.” “This was an embarrassment, Kanye’s mother is rolling over in her grave.”
West’s mother, Donda West, died in 2007 after botched cosmetic surgery.

A CNN panel hosted by anchor Don Lemon took turns lacing into Kanye West on Tuesday evening, joking that his embrace of President Donald Trump has caused him to be tokenized. Several referred to him using the term “negro.”
“He’s an attention whore, like the president. He’s all of a sudden now the model spokesperson. He’s the token negro of the Trump administration,” said CNN contributor Tara Setmeyer.
“This is ridiculous and no one should be taking Kanye West seriously. He clearly has issues. He’s already been hospitalized,” she continued. “Not to trivialize mental health issues, [but] obviously Kanye has taken a turn in a very strange way.”

Another guest, former Congressman Bakari Sellers, also hit Kanye using much of the same language.
“Kanye West is what happens when negroes don’t read,” said Sellers.

As America gears up for the midterm elections, a new documentary revisits a midterm campaign from four years ago.
Attorney Bakari Sellers became the U.S.' youngest black elected official when he entered the South Carolina House of Representatives in 2006. Eight years later, he vacated his seat to run for lieutenant governor in the state. Melania Trump wore white, a color often honoring the women’s Suffragette movement, to her husband Donald Trump‘s State of the Union address on Tuesday, her first public appearance since the news of his affair with porn star Stormy Daniels.
Dressed head-to-toe in white, the first lady, 47, chose a Christian Dior pantsuit with a Dolce & Gabbana blouse and pair of Christian Louboutin heels for Trump’s joint address in Congress.
Her all-white outfit was a stark contrast to female lawmakers’ sartorial blackout to make a statement in support of the #MeToo movement and women impacted by sexual assault and harassment.

Donald Trump is facing rebukes from military veterans again - this time for making a joke about how easy it is to get a Purple Heart after a veteran handed him one as a gift at a rally on Tuesday. Illinois Rep. Tammy Duckworth, an Iraq War veteran who lost both of her legs when her helicopter was shot down in 2004, led the way, posting a photo of herself in a hospital bed wearing the medal on her gown.
