Adult Best Friends Review: Zachary Quinto Steals The Show In Sometimes Funny Comedy That Loses Its Way
Image
Adult Best Friends is fun and funny, with moments of sentimental comedy that tug at the heart. The film has great onscreen chemistry between the main characters Delaney and Katie. The middle section of the film is overstuffed with unnecessary characters and subplots, detracting from the core relationship.

There have been a slew of films tackling best friendship as a core relationship in ones life, and how a big change can test its strength. Babes did this exceptionally well, mixing genuine comedy with a heartfelt storyline. Adult Best Friends lives in that same category, following Katie and best friend Delaney as they navigate Katies engagement to John (the Scream franchises Mason Gooding) and what that means for their friendship moving forward.

Quinta Brunson Explains ‘Abbott Elementary’ Time Jump in Season 3
Image
[The following story contains spoilers from Abbott Elementary‘s season three premiere.]

Abbott Elementary is back and, for season three, the hit ABC series did something different.

The Quinta Brunson comedy picked up five months into the school year, only flashing back to the beginning of the year at the show’s central school, in order to sync up with real life.

“Abbott is a show where we try to go by the school calendar,” creator Brunson, who stars as Janine Teagues, explained during a late night visit on Jimmy Kimmel Live! following the show’s season three premiere Wednesday. “We start in September, along with teachers, and we like to stick with that calendar. This year, we had to make some adjustments so we got creative, so to say why we’re starting in February instead of September.”

The delay in Abbott‘s return was due to the months-long production halt caused by the 2023 writers and actors strikes,...

‘Abbott Elementary’ Returns with Surprise Time Jump — and Executes It Perfectly
Image
“Abbott Elementary” Season 3 was delayed by five months — known in our world as the 2023 Hollywood strikes, but also known and acknowledged, surprisingly, in the supersized premiere episode, “Career Day.” The explanation? The Abbott Elementary documentary crew got robbed after a teachers’ night out, returning only after they were able to save up the money for new equipment.

The episode, written by Quinta Brunson and directed by Randall Einhorn, opens not during the traditional September start of the school year, but in February — matching the audience timeline and treating them to the show’s first time jump. In February, Janine (Brunson) is working for the school district and barely speaking to Gregory (Tyler James Williams), which instantly invokes major intrigue.

After the cold open, a title card flashes us back to five months earlier, when a changed Ava (Janelle James) assembles the teachers for Development Day thanks to her new education...

‘Abbott Elementary’ Bosses on Pulling Off That Season 3 Premiere Cameo and Vetting Guest Star Requests: “Sometimes It’s Very Hard to Resist”
Image
[This story contains spoilers from the third season premiere of Abbott Elementary.]

Major change has come to Abbott Elementary as the show’s lead character, Janine Teagues, played by series creator and Emmy Award-winning actress Quinta Brunson, finds herself outside of the classroom and inside the oft-alluded-to Philadelphia school district at the start of the ABC sitcom’s third season.

“We’re focusing a lot on the district [this season],” co-showrunner Patrick Schumacker tells The Hollywood Reporter. “We’re going to start to explore that world … and Janine is going to see what that type of bureaucracy is in counterpoint to the bureaucracy that she has to deal with at Abbott.”

That plotline is set up in the one-hour season three premiere of Abbott Elementary, which aired at 9 p.m. E.T. on Wednesday. The episode sees the return of series regulars Sheryl Lee Ralph, Lisa Ann Walter, Tyler James Williams, Janelle James, Chris Perfetti and William Stanford Davis — and the introduction of guest stars Josh Segarra,...

Season four of Netflix's "Never Have I Ever" may have just dropped but we're already thinking about how we can see Devi and friends again. The Maitreyi Ramakrishnan-led teen dramedy is ending with this final season, as Devi heads off to college after completing her senior year of high school.

Back in 2022, series creator Mindy Kaling was upfront about why she wanted the show to conclude with four seasons. "I'm old-school, so I come from 'The Office,' where that show went on for nine seasons, and '[The] Mindy Project' went on for six seasons, but those were shows that weren't about high school," she told Popsugar at the time. "In the beginning, I thought, 'Oh, I could do this show forever and ever,' but then you see these kids and it's scary how old they look by the end of the season. Then you wait a year to shoot again,...

Never Have I Ever Season 4 News & Updates: Everything We Know
Image
A bit of exciting Never Have I Ever season 4 news is that it has become the rare Netflix series to have an announced and planned ending ahead of its series finale. The beloved teen series stars Maitreyi Ramakrishnan as Devi Vishwakumar, an awkward teenager whose initial goal was to date Sherman Oaks High School’s resident hunk, Paxton Hall-Yoshida (Darren Barnet). The comedy deftly combines Devi's romantic entanglements with her identity as one of the few South Asian American students at her school and her working through her grief over her father's death.

Never Have I Ever has seen Devi through a lot of ups and downs so far. Season 3 began with Devi and Paxton finally in a relationship, though the former couldn’t escape from her insecurities no matter how hard she tried. The latest season ended with Paxton graduating and Devi moving forward with Ben, who she...

Never Have I Ever Season 4 Teaser: Buckle Up, Nerds! It's Senior Year
Image
Devi Vishwakumar is back for one more round of misadventures, as Netflix has just announced a release date for "Never Have I Ever" season 4. The fourth season of the high school-set comedy is poised to be its last, and while we're not quite ready to say goodbye to these vibrant weirdos and their not-finished-cooking teen brains yet, the final episodes look like a lot of fun.

Mindy Kaling and Lang Fisher's Netflix comedy about a group of high school geeks led by horny, adventure-seeking Devi (Maitreyi Ramakrishnan) has been lauded from its first season for its surprisingly poignant examination of grief and stereotype-bucking Indian-American representation. Across its three seasons, the show has gone to some deep places (the death of Devi's father influences both her best and worst choices) and some deeply funny ones, and while the latest teaser only offers a small taste of what's to come, it...

‘Never Have I Ever’: Jeff Garlin Joins Fourth & Final Season
Image
Exclusive: Jeff Garlin has joined the cast of Netflix‘s Never Have I Ever for the show’s fourth and final season.

Garlin will portray Len, a sweet man who fixes a mean sandwich and who makes Nirmala (Ranjita Chakravarty) reconsider if she really is done with relationships forever.

With a wedding confirmed to take place next season, could Devi Vishwakumar’s (Maitreyi Ramakrishnan) grandmother be the one to walk down the aisle? She is just one of multiple potential brides to consider, however. Devi’s mom Dr. Nalini Vishwakumar (Poorna Jagannathan) has a new love interest coming in this season portrayed by Ivan Hernandez, and her cousin Kamala Nandiwadal has been seriously dating English teacher Manish Kulkarni (Utkarsh Ambudkar) for a hot minute. And that’s before considering wild cards like Eleanor Wong (Ramona Young) and Trent Harrison (Benjamin Norris). The blushing bride will...

‘Never Have I Ever’: How ‘Himbo Stoner’ Trent Became a Fan-Favorite Character in Season 3
Image
If there is one word to summarize “Never Have I Ever,” Season 3, that word would be Trent.

The jock character played by Benjamin Norris and used in early seasons as comic relief becomes a major player in Season 3, dating Eleanor (Ramona Young), standing by best friend Paxton (Darren Barnet), and continuing to bring the laughs wherever he goes.

It’s not the only time Norris has played a lovable weirdo. After debuting Trent in “Never Have I Ever” Season 1, he had an arc in the final season of “Superstore” as Sandra’s (Kaliko Kauahi) adult adoptee and proud shark owner, Tony.

“I love those characters that people are gonna kind of glance twice at and laugh and be like, ‘Man, what an interesting guy,'” Norris told IndieWire in a phone interview. “These are kind of the roles that are right in my wheelhouse.”

Norris played Tony close to what...

‘Never Have I Ever’ Season 3: Netflix Reveals Premiere Date & First Look Photos
Image
The third season of Netflix’s Never Have I Ever will premiere on August 12, and the streamer released first look photos on Sunday teasing what’s ahead.

When viewers last saw Devi (Maitreyi Ramakrishnan), she was caught yet again in a love triangle with Paxton (Darren Barnet) and Ben (Jaren Lewinson) in the Season 2 finale. With Ben seemingly having moved on with Aneesa (Megan Suri), Devi and Paxton finally make their secret relationship official and go public.

Ben is convinced Devi always preferred Paxton over him and things were finally as they should be until Eleanor (Ramona Young) drops a bomb—Devi had real feelings for Ben and had initially picked him over Paxton.

Boom.

What this surely means for Season 3 is more drama with the triangle as well as with poor Aneesa who just wants to live her best life. But there’s also a new teen joining the...
