10 Best Jackie Chan Movies From The Last 15 Years
Image
Jackie Chan is one of the most influential and popular actors in the industry who has had a ridiculously long career. Ever since his cameo as a child-actor in Big and Little Wong Tin Bar (1962), he has been prolific in picking up acting roles. Over six decades later, he shows no signs of stopping as Chan is returning for Karate Kid: Legends in 2025. He's led innumerable action movies and left an indelible mark on the martial arts scene as a man who performs his own stunts and adds his traditional comical twist to daring stuntwork.

However, despite the longevity that has continued well into the 21st Century, whenever he's talked about, people mostly refer to Jackie Chan's best action movies from the 1990s or the best old-school kung fu movies starring Jackie Chan. While he no longer takes on action-heavy roles that involve the most unbelievable stunts, Chan hasn't slowed his roll.

A Legend: Jackie Chan gets the de-aging treatment in the new trailer for his sequel to The Myth
Image
Jackie Chan once attempted to break out of his signature comedy style in the early part of the millennium when he made New Police Story, which had him playing a more dramatic role as an alcoholic ex-cop. He would follow it up with 2005’s The Myth, which would be half of an Armor of God-type movie where he played an archeologist and half of a period film where Chan also played a General of a historical Chinese army. Chan returns with a new sequel to The Myth, titled A Legend. This film reunites him with director Stanley Tong, who directed Chan in movies like Rumble in the Bronx and Police Story 3: Supercop.

Well Go USA has just released the trailer for A Legend. Not long after the company unveiled the trailers for the upcoming action films of other martial arts icons, Tony Jaa’s Striking Rescue and Donnie Yen’s The Prosecutor.

Wolf Pack – Review
Image
A scene from the Chinese action flick Wolf Pack. Courtesy of Well Go USA Entertainment

Wolf Pack is a fast-paced, subtitled action flick from China that’s well worth having to read the dialog – partly because there isn’t too much of it in proportion to the shooting and fighting time. An elite mercenary unit of ex-soldiers opens with rescuing a young humanitarian doctor (Aarif Rahman) kidnapped by terrorists. The main plot involves the bad guys’ effort to destroy an oil pipeline that’s vital to China’s needs, both foreign and domestic.

The leader (Jin Zhang) is a hard-nosed veteran of many battles. Luxia Jiang co-stars as the attractive female member of the team that’s become almost mandatory in recent action flicks from all countries who crank them out. Diego Dati plays the typically brilliant, ruthless head honcho of the terrorists. All three mentioned in this paragraph fill their roles in excellent style.

Film Review: Wolf Pack (2023) by Michael Chiang
Image
Modern Chinese action cinema seems to be slowly adding a political worldview alongside the usual patriotism that can often be found on display. Like the Reagan era Gung Ho Americana, it can often be a bit much for audiences outside the local market. With “Wolf Pack” we once again see involvement in international affair, through a team of mercenaries that potentially are on the wrong side of the law, the set up promises something a bit different. The question is, does it deliver?

on Amazon by clicking on the image below

Ke Tong (Aarif Rahman) a trained surgeon, is kidnapped by Diao (Max Zhang) to assist his team on a raid. These seeming mercenaries however, have a closer connection to Ke Tong who initially appears as may have the answer to his father's death. As he spends more time with them, the truth begins to emerge and...

Official US Trailer for Mercenary Action Thriller 'Wolf Pack' from China
Image
"A team of specialized warriors." Well Go USA has revealed an official US trailer for a Chinese action film titled Wolf Pack, which is getting a US release in theaters at the end of this month. It opened a few weeks ago in China and hasn't played at any film festivals. This seems to be yet another jingoistic, nationalistic Chinese propaganda movie similar to US action movies about how great US mercenaries are at stopping bad guys from doing anything bad on American soil. During one a mission of the elite military Wolf Pack squad, who are engaged in overseas security work, they discover that foreign terrorist forces have extended their reach into China's energy lifeline. The action film stars Max Zhang, Aarif Lee, Jiang Luxia, Gianluca Zoppa, Ye Liu, and Mark Luu. Looks like another generic action film without anything original about it. ›››

Film Review: Kung Fu Yoga (2017) by Stanley Tong
With “Kung Fu Yoga,” Jackie Chan reunites with one of his regular collaborators, Stanley Tong, for their second movie that has a touch of Bollywood flavoring.

Jack (Jackie Chan) is an archaeology professor who along with his assistants team up with Ashmita (Disha Patani) an Indian Professor to locate India’s lost Magadha treasure. A series of globe-trotting adventures take place as they compete with Randall (Sonu Sood) and his mercenaries, and one of their own, Jones Lee (Aarif Rahman) to find the diamond artifact known as the “Eye of Shiva” that will lead them to the treasure.

The difficulty when reviewing a new Jackie Chan film is the legacy of what has come before it. With a career spanning five decades and numerous classics of cinema comes a certain expectation. So it is important to judge “Kung Fu Yoga” on its own individual merits as given...

Rumble in the Bronx was the film that, finally, broke Hollywood’s doors down for Jackie Chan. Well, with Kung Fu Yoga, Chan reunites with his Bronx director Stanley Tong for a Chinese-Indian co-production that, on paper, sounds like it could be Armour of God 4 in all but name. Yes, this is yet another “Jackie Chan, Treasure Hunter” movie, a la Chinese Zodiac – only this time Chan and co. are exploring not only Chinese history but also India’s rich and religious heritage.

World-renowned archaeology professor Jack and his team are on a grand quest to locate a lost ancient Indian treasure, when they are ambushed by a team of mercenaries and left for dead. Using his vast...

Review: Kung Fu Yoga (2017)
A Chinese archaeologist Professor Jack (Jackie Chan) teams up with a beautiful Indian Professor Ashmita (Disha Patani) and her assistant Kyra (Amyra Dastur) to find a lost Magadha treasure. From the freezing Tibetan ice caves, to the scorching beaches of Dubai, they find themselves travelling around the world to locate all the pieces required to unlock the secrets of the treasure. Unfortunately, they are not alone in their search as the descendant of a rebel leader Randall (Sonu Sood) also seeks the treasure and will do anything he can to make sure he gets it.

Kung Fu Yoga is a cultural collaboration between China and India, with both the cast and cultural philosophies incorporated into the film. This is not unusual for Chan who has featured Kung Fu and Buddhist philosophies in his past films. In Kung Fu Yoga he even manages to incorporate this into his fighting, talking through...

Jackie Chan in First Trailer for Stanley Tong's 'Kung Fu Yoga' Comedy
Two new Jackie Chan movies in one month! Yes indeed (Railroad Tigers is the other). Well Go has debuted an official trailer for the action comedy Kung Fu Yoga, starring Jackie Chan, directed by Stanley Tong. When I was younger, one of my favorite Jackie Chan movies was Rumble in the Bronx, an R-rated action comedy set in Brooklyn and it was awesome. Kung Fu Yoga reunites Chan with Supercop and Rumble in the Bronx director Stanley Tong for the first time in years. And as much as I would hope that was a good thing, this looks terrible. The cast includes Amyra Dastur, Aarif Rahman, Sonu Sood, Disha Patani, Lay Zhang, Eric Tsang. It's an India-China co-production and looks like a CGI-fest. But, the trailer is still fun. Here's the official Us trailer (+ poster) for Stanley Tong's Kung Fu Yoga, direct from Well Go's YouTube: Jack (Jackie Chan), a world-renowned archaeology professor,...

Busan: Korean industry grapples with China political fallout
Aarif Lee in Bruce Lee, naissance d'une légende (2010)
Asian Film Market’s E-ip events were bustling but uncertainty over Chinese policy dampened the usual talks about Chinese-Korean collaboration and co-investment.

Although nobody wants to discuss it openly, one issue that overshadowed this year’s Asian Film Market was the growing political tension between China and South Korea, which has been affecting the entertainment industry since August.

The problem stems to the Us and South Korea’s decision to deploy the Us’ Thaad missile defense system on the Korean Peninsula as protection against North Korea’s nuclear threats. China has openly objected to the decision and appears to be retaliating by restricting South Korean cultural products.

The Chinese government has not made any official statements, but Korean actors, singers and filmmakers are finding it difficult obtain visas to work in mainland China, and China-Korea co-productions, in development or pre-production, appear to have stalled. According to Chinese buyers, Korean films and TV shows are no longer being approved...
