Welcome to this week’s All Elite Wrestling: Dark review, right here on Nerdly. I’m Nathan Favel and I’m writing this out of order, so I can say a bit about the numerous accusations of sexual misconduct (to put it very lightly) from wrestlers all over the world. Just because there are a plethora of deviants in wrestling, that doesn’t mean you have to quit wrestling or be ashamed to watch it, but it does mean that it’s gonna leave a bad taste in your mouth for a while. As many pigs as there are in wrestling, it would seem we also have many who are good people as well. Jordan Devlin may be a monster, but Daniel Bryan (Bryan Danielson) seems to be a good man, by and large. Marty Scurll might be a scum-bag, but Jeff Hardy has a great reputation (his drug addiction...

So, if you’re a pro-wrestling dork like I am, and you like to entertain yourself from time to time with news, reviews, podcasts, discussions, quizzes, lists and debates from fans and wrestling personalities on the YouTube platform, then you’ll likely have your favourites. I do. So… at a time when consuming media, and YouTube in particular, is at an all time high, I thought it would be cool to highlight and talk about a handful of the best wrestling-based YouTube channels out there. Now… believe me, I’m not gonna list people I personally haven’t seen, and so I’ll likely miss some excellent channels out, but we can’t see ‘em all. Feel free to recommend us some.

My Opinion: 3 out of 5 – I enjoyed this, with S&r really doing the big work here. It’s nice to see both of them getting to shine with ol’ Dustin and Qt. As matches go, this was meaty and mean, but never too showy.

My Opinion: 3.1 out of 5 – I liked the way this cookie crumbled. The chocolate chips melted in many of the right spots and the batter never broke down to sugar soup like when Boo Berry was offed by Monsanto for pissing off the Corn-Holes. Shida and Dani meshed really well and knocked the snot out of each other.

My Opinion: 2.5 out of 5 – This was alright, but there was no tepee for my bung-hole, so it made me sad.

All Elite Wrestling’s PPV schedule is more sporadic than WWE’s. When they did their last show, Aew Revolution, it was on Leap Day. It was a different time. The coronavirus was still in the “not that big deal” phase where delaying the new James Bond movie seemed like a silly, exaggerated response. The match of the night was Hangman Page and Kenny Omega vs. the Young Bucks and the aftermath was very open-ended as all four men and Cody were set to take on the Inner Circle in what was supposed to be Aew’s version of War Games.

Soon after, they did a show in Jacksonville with no audience due to Covid-19 concerns. Next thing you know, they’re at Qt Marshall’s training facility in Georgia for a month’s worth of tapings, featuring 1/3 of the Aew roster and a handful of indie wrestlers. The Young...

My Opinion: 2.9 out of 5 – This wasn’t bad, but it also felt like one of those old tune-up matches from back in the day and those just feel like a fast way to go real slow. Both guys looked good, but a little more time wouldn’t have hurt.

Match #2: Jurassic Express defeated Mike Reed & Ryan Rembrandt

My Opinion: 2.4 out of 5 – This wasn’t quite as exciting as I was expecting a match from the Je to be, but it wasn’t bad either.

My Opinion: 3.3 out of 5 – For all the talk of Stunt being too short to matter, he did damn well with Havoc, who got to show his wrestling ability for a change. These guys I really enjoyed this whole thing. The way these guys put a lot of power into each move gave this a grueling feel. There’s plenty of ground-and-pound, but the high-flying still found its way in, which isn’t a bad thing. Maybe we can see more of these guys in this context more often?

My Opinion: 3.3 out of 5 – This was a fun burst of action that had as many colors woven into it as a bowl of Fruit Loops at the Gay Pride Parade. Everybody worked well together and kept the pace up near where it always needed to be. This wasn’t long enough for my taste, but it was good enough for that same taste.

Match #2: Hikaru Shida defeated Mel

My Opinion: 1.6 out of 5 – You can just skip this s—. The wrestling didn’t get very far in quality and made me doubt what I’d do for a Klondike bar.

With only a couple months until All Elite Wrestling starts airing on TNT, they’re gearing up for one of their bigger shows with Aew All Out. This is the one year anniversary follow-up to All In, the indie party PPV that Cody and the Young Bucks put together back in 2018. Since establishing Aew, the promotion did a huge introduction show in Double or Nothing, then two lesser shows in Fyter Fest and Fight for the Fallen. Now they’re building towards what will apparently be one of their four big annual PPVs.

One of the reasons why it's so big? We’ll finally have ourselves an Aew World Champion via this show.

Aew's next big pay-per-view will be August 31 in Chicago ...

The stage for All Out was set in stone Saturday night when Aew held its third show, Fight for the Fallen, which took place in Jacksonville, Fla.

The free show (here in the U.S.), which aired on B/R Live, was the perfect go-home sell job for Aew's next big $49.99 pay-per-view, All Out, which is set for next month in Chicago (on the anniversary of All In).

All Out will feature the crowning of the first Aew Champion, when Chris Jericho faces Hangman Page. The Young Bucks and the Lucha Brothers will clash in a ladder match for the Aaa Tag Team Championship. Kenny Omega faces Jon Moxley and Cody Rhodes vs. Shawn Spears also seems set for the show. On Saturday night, Aew also teased Awesome Kong vs. Aja Kong.

This was a bit of a mess, but not a terrible one either. Kiss was the driving force behind this match, but Avalon didn’t exactly look lousy. The match was kind of odd, but it worked for what it was.

This was a fun tag match that was hot and cold as far as action, but when it got hot it burned.

In the latest All Elite Wrestling show, the Rhodes Brothers take on the Young Bucks in the name of charity. And it's free for Us viewers!

All Elite Wrestling continues its mission to get eyes on the product before its weekly TV show starts airing on TNT. We already had their big PPV debut Double or Nothing and their follow-up Fyter Fest. Now we’re going with another cheap-to-free show with Aew Fight for the Fallen. This one’s a charity show with the proceeds going to victims of gun violence, tying mainly into the Jacksonville Landing shooting from last year.

Match #1: Best Friends defeated Private Party & Scu

This was pretty good. There was lots of action and it made enough sense to not make my head spin. I’ve got no real problems with any of this.

My Opinion: 3.5 out of 5 Match #2: Allie defeated Leva Bates

This was beyond bad. Just get the hell away from this. Allie tried but couldn’t make Bates a good wrestler.

My Opinion: 0 out of 5 Match #3: Michael Nakazawa defeated Alex Jebailey – Hardcore Match

This was pretty lousy, but not for a lack of trying. The idea behind this match just felt off the whole way through.

Match #1: Richard Holliday versus Teddy Hart (No Contest)

My Opinion: 0 out of 5 – This was just an excuse to do one of those stolen title angles. Holliday stole the Mlw Middle-Weight Championship while Mjf jaw-jacked with Teddy Hart. Yeah, it’s as exciting as it sounds.

Match #2: Jordan Oliver beat Isaias Velazquez

My Opinion: 2.5 out of 5 – This was a good little match featuring two talented wrestlers. The action was easy to watch, like a lamb piloting a B-52 bomber.

As an all-new wrestling promotion, All Elite Wrestling has been hitting all the right notes right out the gate. Their prototype show All In made waves, but not nearly as much as their first real show Aew Double or Nothing. The event was both a critical and financial success. They’re a few months away from starting their weekly series on TNT. Their big August event All Out sold out in about fifteen minutes.

The live special opened with Reed and Loco. Reed came to the ring with tape over his mouth, once again protesting what he feels has been unfair treatment by Mlw officials. Unless the building explodes or something like that, then Aew will be delivering a major show that has drawn over 12,000 people to Las Vegas, Nevada. This is a big deal and changes everything in professional wrestling. Let’s stop pretending that this is just some T-Shirt company and take this for what it is. Okay, here comes Double Or Nothing. I know, this is pretty damn cool.

My Opinion:...

Wrestling fans everywhere have been on tenterhooks to find out which network, what channel, which cable/satellite provider would be the home for Aew in the Us… but none of us ever gave a thought to the UK; and That’S the first TV deal that Aew have announced!

Aew are partnering with World of Sport broadcaster ITV to air Double or Nothing on the ITV Box Office channel, with the Double or Nothing pre-show to air on ITV4 – presumably as a warm-up for UK fans still wondering if the PPV will be worth a buy (it will)… It’s huge Huge news for Aew and the UK wrestling scene. Perhaps this is payback for Vince McMahon basically plundering the World of Sport roster for Nxt:UK – we all know how petrified McMahon was when WoS returned, ramping up his plans for a UK-based WWE roster in the wake of the shows initial broadcast.

Match #1: Impact World Champion Johnny Impact def. Jake Crist, Dante, Pat Buck & Ace Austin – #1 Contenders Match for the X-Division Championship

My Opinion: 3 out of 5 – This turned out just fine, but I wish that it…you know what I’m going to say…lasted longer. The spots looked excellent and the pace was swift, so it all moved along quite well.

Match #2: Team Lucha Underground def. Team Impact

My Opinion: 2.5 out of 5 – The action was a bit lame, but at least some very talented wrestlers got another shot at showing what they can do. In some ways, this might be the final time we see Lucha Underground in any facet, so there’s that, at least.

World Middleweight Champion Teddy Hart defended his title successfully vs. up-and-comer Ace Austin. In addition to a title defense, Hart earned a trip to the hospital. The Dynasty – Mjf, Richard Holliday and Alex Hammerstone – were partying at ringside during Hart’s match. Following the contest, Hart got into a verbal altercation with the trio. But then it became something more than verbal as Mjf hit Hart over the head with a champagne bottle.

My Take: 3 out of 5 – This was an excellent match that was like a burst of fire that…that…damn it. I liked it. There, does that work?...

Holliday later picked up a pair of near falls with a roll through and a neckbreaker. Holliday tried to put Ryan away with the Market Crash, but was thwarted. Ryan ended up scoring with a pump handle suplex that seemed to turn the tide. Ryan then went into his trunks for his trademark lollipop to set up Sweet Tooth Music.

Period 1 (5 minutes): Kotto Brazil vs. Fulton – Despite being a match in two rings, surrounded by a steel cage, this one started outside. Brazil flew through the door of the cage, driving Fulton back through the timekeeper’s table. Fans weren’t likely expecting an overly technical matchup in this week’s opening match. Not with the brawling bounty hunter Brody King matching up with Jimmy Havoc, the self-proclaimed King of the Death Match. While there was plenty of pure fighting and battling all over the arena, it was actually a technical wrestling move which secured the victory for Havoc. England’s Most Dangerous Man was still sporting a bandage on his left arm from a massive laceration in a grudge match with Lawlor a couple weeks back. That grueling bout with Lawlor seemed to affect Havoc throughout this matchup. King had the upper hand for much of the match.

Su Yung and Zeda Zhang – the Kodokushi Death Squad unleashed violence on both prospects just after the bell. Su Yung and Zeda absolutely decimated Roberts and Khan. To my surprise, this match never got past the first second. Su Yung (Savannah Young) and Zeda Zhang ran out to obliterate the fighters before they could even make an offensive move against one another. This was probably not the best match to start this initial review out on, but it’s what we’ve got to work with. As long as they don’t do things like this too often, this angle could have a great effect on future fight cards. Needless to say, there was no winner in this match.
