‘Aew: Dark’ Review (Aug 9th 2022)
Image
Another week, another episode of Aew: Dark which emanates from Grand Rapids, Michigan – which means this was taped at the same time as this past weekend’s Battle of the Belts special. We’ve got Taz and Excalibur on commentary as usual so let’s get to the action!

Match #1: Private Party, The Butcher & The Blade def. Isaiah Broner, James Alexander, Brayden Lee, & Sam Moore

My Thoughts: So we open Dark with an 8-man quasi-squash match. Hey, at least Private Party, The Butcher & The Blade are getting “TV” time right? Right..? It seems both teams are floundering somewhat after the end of the Hfo/Ahfo so to see them in action is good, even more so when the in-ring action is good too!

My Score: 2.5 out of 5 Match #2: Anna Jay A.S. def. Megan Meyers

My Thoughts: Anna Jay gets a new name and new attitude… Hopefully her...

‘Aew: Dark’ Review (June 28th 2022)
Image
Another episode of Aew: Dark, which this week is back being taped at Aew Universal. Let’s join Taz and Excalibur, commentators for Dark as usual, with Ten matches this week – including a main event that sees the Roh Pure Championship on the line. Let’s get to it!

Match #1: Willow Nightingale def. Ashley D’Amboise

My Thoughts: Who doesn’t love the energy Willow Nightingale brings to her matches?! Her infectious attitude really raises the bar for any match she’s a part of, including this one (which is why this match gets an extra half-point just for That). Ashley D’Amboise plays a great heel too and whilst this match was too short for my liking this was still a great opener to this week’s Dark.

My Score: 3 out of 5 Match #2: Nick Comoroto & Aaron Solo vs. Matt Vandagriff & Knull

My Thoughts: Solid but forgettable is how I’d describe this match.

‘Aew: Dark’ Review (March 29th 2022)
Image
It’s time for this week’s review of Aew: Dark, which emanates from Aew Universal once again and features only 8 matches this week… which hopefully means we’re not going to be subjected to the ridiculous squash-tastic action that we got last week! We’ve got Taz and Excalibur on commentary so let’s get right to it.

Match #1: The Factory def. Invictus Khash, Adam Priest, & Gus De La Vega

My Thoughts: Qt and co. played the big heel card in this match, with Qt himself really p*ssing off the audience in attendance. It wasn’t all about the Factory though, as Invictus Khash – who’s been tagging recently with Ariya Daivari in a couple of Dark/Elevation matches – got in some good offence and showed off the same skills that have impressed in his previous appearances for Aew. A solid start to this week’s Dark Imho.

‘Aew: Dark’ Review (March 15th 2022)
Image
It’s time for this week’s review of Aew: Dark, which once again comes from Aew Universal and, surprisingly, features an appearance by the Young Bucks… On Dark?! What’s going on? The Bucks taking a walk down memory lane? Let’s take a look.

Match #1: The Young Bucks & Brandon Cutler def. Dark Order

My Thoughts: This was a great opening match with both teams looking good. Cutler did his usual goofy stuff and Still got the pin. You knew Dark Order weren’t going to win this one but Cutler getting the pin? Really?! Still, a really good match to open Dark. Still weird seeing the Bucks wrestle at Universal Studios again though…

My Score: 3 out of 5 Match #2: Ruby Soho def. Ashley D’Amboise

My Thoughts: Nice to see Ashley D’Amboise back on Aew programming and, once again, she impresses even in the loss. A typical...

‘Aew: Dark’ Review (Feb 15th 2022)
Image
It’s Wednesday morning so you know what that means… It’s time for our review of this weeks Aew: Dark, which this week comes from Aew Universal in Orlando, Florida. Like the show itself, let’s get right into the action!

Match #1: Jon Silver & Alex Reynolds def. Ariya Daivari & Invictus Khash

My Thoughts: A good opening match between two great teams. Daivari and Khash have looked good in all their Aew outings and that continues here. If anything this match felt like it ran a little short, even though it went over 5 minutes… The sign of a good match Imho!

My Score: 2.5 out of 5 Match #2: Qt Marshall def. Pat Brink

My Thoughts: I was surprised by how much Pat Brink was in control of this match, with Marshall only seeming to get the upper hand thanks to interference from the Nightmare Factory on the outside. Loved how...

‘Aew: Dark’ Review (Feb 1st 2022)
Image
It’s Wednesday morning so you know what that means… It’s time for our review of this weeks Aew: Dark, which this week comes from Aew Universal. Let’s get right to it!

Match #1: Anthony Ogogo def. Marcus Kross

My Thoughts: You know what? I kind of liked Ogogo in Aew back before he left to have surgery over here in the UK. Now? Not so much. Now everything feels forced, everything feels like it’s scripted, like it’s a desperate attempt to get him back over with Aew fans – only as some sort of major heel. It’s not working. So much so that I was urging on Mr Dragonball himself, Marcus Kross, to kick Ogogo’s arse! He didn’t instead he got squashed and knocked out…

My Score: 1 out of 5 Match #2: Penelope Ford def. Angelica Risk

My Thoughts: This was better than I expected if I’m honest.

‘Aew: Rampage’ Review (Nov 12th 2021)
Image
Welcome to this weeks review of episode of Aew: Rampage – the go-home show for Aew’s Full Gear pay per view, with three matches, including Orange Cassidy vs. Matt Hardy in a lumberjack match; Jungle Boy vs. Bobby Fish; Jade Cargill vs. Santana Garrett; and Dante Martin versus a debuting Ariya Daivari!

Match #1: Jungle Boy def. Bobby Fish

My Thoughts: This was a great match up between a veteran and realtive newcomer. Fish showed why he, despite his losses, he should be feared in the ring. This was another match where Jungle Boy was at the disavantage from the get-go and had to fight his way back to get the win. Always a good story for Jungle Boy.

My Score: 3 out of 5 Match #2: Jade Cargill def. Santana Garrett

My Thoughts: This was a glorified squash match that, unfortunately for Santana Garrett, only existed to further the Red Velvet / Jade Cargill feud,...

Match #1: Asher Hale def. Ariya Daivari The following is courtesy of wwe.com:

Ariya Daivari has made no secrets of his bitter disdain toward 205 Live rookies, and after what happened in his match against the debuting Asher Hale, The Persian Prince seems likely to hold newcomers in even higher contempt. Decked out in a black vest and sporting several tattoos, Hale hung with Daivari from bell to bell, though he was left reeling after receiving several clubbing blows and the Persian Splash from Daivari Dinero. Welcome to this week’s 205 Live review, right here on Nerdly. I’m Nathan Favel and we have two new arrivals on the scene. Jake Atlas and August Grey have competed as partners and opponents over the last few months on 205 Live, but any lingering friction from Grey’s narrow singles victory over Atlas from several weeks ago wasn’t noticeable when the two acrobatic competitors joined forces for a tag team bout against The Bollywood Boyz. Why does she look like my son? Is St. Vincent Bernadette Peters? Is St. Vincent that movie, but in a wig? Is St. Vincent 205 Live, which we’re reviewing right now? Oh yeah!

Match #1: Mansoor def. August Grey The following is courtesy of wwe.com:

After making a confident pre-match boast that he’s a party starter and a streak ender, August Grey clearly wasn’t sweating Mansoor, who entered the bout with a 44-0 record. The Life of the Party came within an eyelash of a win after dropping his opponent with So Much Prettier, but Mansoor bounced out of the ring after the impact. Grey was about to claim a count-out victory,...

Match #1: Tony Nese and Ariya Daivari def. The Hollywood Boyz The following is courtesy of wwe.com:

With Tony Nese and Ariya Daivari reeling from a pair of singles losses one week prior, The Premier Athlete and Daivari Dinero once again joined forces in an attempt to get back into the win column against The Bollywood Boyz, and the strategy paid dividends. The Bollywood Boyz nearly claimed the...

‘WWE 205 Live’ Review (Mar 19th 2021)
Image
Welcome to this week’s 205 Live review, right here on Nerdly. I’m Nathan Favel and we have another episode of “The little WWE show that could”… Let’s go!

Match #1: Ashante “Thee” Adonis def. Ariya Daivari The following is courtesy of wwe.com:

In matchup between arguably the two best trash talkers on 205 Live, Ashante “Thee” Adonis snatched victory from the jaws of defeat to stun Ariya Daivari. The Persian Lion, who was defeated by August Grey in controversial fashion last week and entered this match in an even worse mood than usual, took control when he grabbed a fist full of his opponent’s hair and yanked him to the met before dropkicking his knee. Seconds later, Daivari drilled Adonis with the Hammerlock Lariat, only to break his own pinfall attempt. Daivari followed up with a picture-perfect frog splash from the top rope and nonchalantly covered his foe,...

Welcome to this week’s 205 Live review, right here on Nerdly. I’m Nathan Favel and hot plates are excellent for soups! If you throw the spelling bee, you can go on an all expenses paid trip to the Seven Sisters college of your choice…with hot plates for your soup! We’ve got semi-heavy men fighting for nothing but nothing as of late, but it’s good fun buddy. So, let’s snatch-up those hot plates for our soup and enjoy 205 Live!

Match #1: Mansoor & Curt Stallion def. The Bollywood Boyz The following is courtesy of wwe.com:

Even though they claimed a hard-fought win against The Bollywood Boyz, there were were no cheers, hugs, high-fives or even a handshake between Mansoor and Curt Stallion. Instead, tension lingered from Mansoor’s win over Stallion in singles competition last week, and Mansoor seemingly poured fuel on the fire during a...

Those peanuts are for the elephant! Homer: Screw him! Me: We’ve got two matches here two kick some ass with, so let’s…ummmmm…watch the matches.

Match #1: August Grey & Jake Atlas def. Tony Nese & Ariya Daivari The following is courtesy of wwe.com:

Call it a partnership of convenience. Call it uniting against common enemies. But whatever you do, call the combination of August Grey and Jake Atlas effective. Grey and Atlas have watched each other’s backs for the last few weeks to nullify the numbers advantage that Tony Nese and Ariya Daivari typically use in their favor, and they paired up for the first time in an actual match against their recent tormentors. The Premier Athlete...

‘WWE 205 Live’ Review (Feb 26th 2021)

Welcome to this week’s 205 Live review, right here on Nerdly. I’m Editor Phil and I’m back for another review of the WWE show that everyone forgets. Last weeks was a pretty good show so I’ve got my fingers crossed for another great installment of this cruiserweight classic…

Match #1: Mansoor & Curt Stallion def. Ever-Rise The following is courtesy of wwe.com:

After pairing up with The Bollywood Boyz to from “Bolly-Rise” and going 0-3 over the past three weeks in a pair of traditional tag bouts and an Eight-Man Tag Team Match, Matt Martel and Chase Parker seemed to content to go it alone against the impressive combo of Mansoor and Curt Stallion. Still, that didn’t stop The Bollywood Boyz from taking a stroll to the ringside area, giving a pep talk to their comrades and trying to dish out a timely assist. The mid-match...

Welcome to this week’s 205 Live review, right here on Nerdly. I’m Editor Phil and I’ll be phil-ing (groan) for Nathan, and checking out the show that everyone seems to have forgotten… Well I watched Smackdown this week and this followed, so technically I’m one of those that forgot it existed too… Anyway, on with the review!

Match #1: Mansoor, Curt Stallion, Jake Atlas and Ashante “Thee Adonis” def. Ever-Rise and The Bollywood Boyz The following is courtesy of wwe.com:

Though Ever-Rise and The Bollywood Boyz have seemingly buried the hatchet after being at each other’s throats for months, the third time was certainly not the charm for “Bolly-Rise.” After coming up short in a pair of tag team matches in prior weeks, the quartet suffered yet another defeat in an Eight-Man Tag Team Match against Mansoor, Curt Stallion, Jake Atlas and Ashante “Thee Adonis.

‘WWE 205 Live’ Review (Jan 8th 2021)

Welcome to this week’s 205 Live, right here on Nerdly. I’m Nathan Favel and we have two matches that push both the cruiserweight and tag divisions, as we are due to have some Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic Tournament matches on this brand in the coming weeks. I’m becoming a post-mortem porn-star and I’ve got stiffy for ya…Wrestling!

Match #1: Ashante “Thee” Adonis def. Ariya Daivari The following is courtesy of wwe.com:

After an up and down rookie season on the purple brand, Ashante “Thee” Adonis kicked off 2021 with a bang, grinding out a tough win against Ariya Daivari. Daivari looked to ground Adonis by repeatedly slamming his leg against the steel ring post and savagely booting him in the kneecap, but Adonis fought through the pain and left Daivari reeling with a series of clotheslines and a ring-rattling Ddt. When Adonis went for a superkick,...

Match #1: Mansoor def. Jake Atlas The following is courtesy of wwe.com:

Another Friday night, another Mansoor victory on 205 Live. Mansoor’s undefeated run on the purple brand is made all the more impressive by his ability to win matches in different ways, having outlasted Raul Mendoza in a slugfest last week and narrowly edged Jake Atlas in a mat-wrestling clinic this week. Atlas was hobbled when he landed awkwardly...

Match #1: Ever-Rise def. Bollywood Boyz – Tornado Tag Team Match The following is courtesy of wwe.com:

Ever-Rise and The Bollywood Boyz have traded wins in the past few weeks as each makes their case for purple brand tag team supremacy. Chase Parker & Matt Martel came in loaded with confidence following solid showings on Nxt against Young Grizzled Veterans and Imperium, while the Singh brothers needed something to turn around their momentum after two straight losses on 205 Live.

Match #1: Tony Nese & Ariya Daivari def. The Bollywood Boyz The following is courtesy of wwe.com:

Tony Nese and Ariya Daivari thought they had an ace up their sleeve when they enlisted The Bollywood Boyz and Ever-Rise to interfere on their behalf in a recent Fatal 5-Way Match. The Premier Athlete and The Persian Lion reasoned that bribing the quartet would ensure that one of them claim the victory and earn a chance to challenge Nxt Cruiserweight Champion Santos Escobar, but the move backfired when Curt Stallion emerged from the chaos with the win. Nese and Daivari refused an offer from Samir and Sunil to...

Match #1: Ever-Rise def. The Bollywood Boyz The following is courtesy of wwe.com:

Three weeks ago, Ever-Rise and The Bollywood Boyz were bribed by Ariya Daivari and Tony Nese to interfere in a Fatal 5-Way Match on their behalf, but the plan backfired when Curt Stallion nevertheless claimed the victory, and the teams blamed one another for their failure to secure a win for either Daivari or Nese, sparking a tag team battle between them. Chase Parker found himself in a world of trouble early in the bout, isolated from...

Match #1: August Grey def. Ariya Daivari The following is courtesy of wwe.com:

Though he’s relatively new to 205 Live, August Grey is silencing the doubters one week at a time. Not only has the purple brand’s flashy new Superstar impressed by standing up to the sadistic Timothy Thatcher on Nxt, he also claimed what was arguably the biggest win of his career on 205 Live when he spiked Ariya Daivari face-first into the canvas with an elevated Unprettier.

Match #1: (Main Event) Curt Stallion def. August Grey, Ashante “Thee” Adonis, Tony Nese and Ariya Daivari – Nxt Cruiserweight Championship Contendership Match The following is courtesy of wwe.com:

Match #1: Mansoor def. Ashante “Thee” Adonis The following is courtesy of wwe.com:

Ashante “Thee” Adonis has seemingly become a more well-rounded and focused competitor ever since he started receiving veteran wisdom from The Brian Kendrick, but he still can’t solve the puzzle that is Mansoor, who remained undefeated on 205 Live and posted his fourth singles victory against Adonis. In an ironic twist, the usually sportsmanship-minded Mansoor, who teamed with Kendrick last week to pick up a win against Ever-Rise, was the one to refuse a pre-match handshake,...

Match #1: Curt Stallion def. Ariya Daivari The following is courtesy of wwe.com:

If you’re hoping to score a victory against either Ariya Daivari or Tony Nese, then you’d better be prepared for a two-on-one fight. Case in point: Curt Stallion was constantly forced to deal with Nese’s meddling during a seesaw battle against Daivari, but the rookie persevered by knocking Nese off the apron with a savage headbutt,...

Match #1: Mansoor def. The Brian Kendrick The following is courtesy of wwe.com:

Much to the delight of one Superstar and the dismay of the other, the final bell of 205 Live’s opening match signaled the extension of a pair of streaks, as Mansoor improved to 6-0 while The Brian Kendrick suffered his third consecutive defeat. After absorbing a series of kicks to the head and some trash talk from Kendrick, Mansoor fired back with a jumping clothesline, and an inverted atomic drop into a spinebuster, and three consecutive suplexes to a dazed Kendrick,...

Match #1: Ariya Daivari def. Anthony Greene The following is courtesy of wwe.com:

Ariya Daivari kicked off 205 Live with an arrogant strut to the ring, a briefcase in hand and the boisterous proclamation that he had chosen Performance Center recruits Anthony Greene and Curt Stallion to participate in his $10,000 Daivari Dinero Division. Up first, Greene, who commentator Nigel McGuinness described as “a retro rising star straight out of the ’80s,” caught Daivari by surprise by blocking a cheap shot and firing back with a series of stinging strikes to the face. Daivari quickly responded with a back elbow to the jaw and a flurry of right hands and stomps.

Match #1: Mansoor def. Ashante “Thee” Adonis The following is courtesy of wwe.com:

The third time’s the charm. At least if you’re Mansoor, who posted his third singles victory in as many matches against Ashante “Thee” Adonis, this time securing the 1-2-3 after fighting his way out of a submission and hitting the Sands of Time. Adonis has received some unsolicited veteran advice from former Cruiserweight Champion The Brian Kendrick in recent weeks, and whether or not he took the veteran’s teachings to heart, “Thee” turned in what was probably his best performance.
