Thor is the founding member of the MCU’s Avengers, making his solo debut after Iron Man 2. He has been one of the most popular heroes in the franchise, although his last movie was a huge disappointment. Chris Hemsworth is confirmed to appear in Avengers: Doomsday, but his journey is still incomplete.
A fifth solo movie has been in the rumor mill for quite some time now, and though Taika Waititi is not involved, the franchise seems to still be in ruins. Thor certainly deserves a farewell worthy of him, as he has faced quite a lot of events since his debut in Thor. Jason Aaron’s The War of the Realms might be the perfect story to adapt for it.

Warning: Spoilers for Uncanny X-Men #14!The dinosaurs have finally been given a canonical reason for their extinction in the Marvel Universe. Dinosaurs have always been an important staple of Marvel lore, to the point that, in official continuity, Marvel's first superhero was a dinosaur. That being said, Marvel has seldom touched on the actual extinction of these pre-historical creatures.
However, Marvel does offer such a canonical explanation for the dinosaurs' extinction in Uncanny X-Men #14 by Gail Simone and David Marquez. Below, readers can find a preview of the issue set to come out on May 14. The preview also arrives with cover art by Marquez and Matthew Wilson.
The Uncanny X-Men's first opponent, the dragon Sadurang, finds itself in a conversation with Gambit that quickly turns into a violent confrontation with Rogue. Before getting punched in the face, Sadurang reveals that the real reason dinosaurs went extinct is because "dragons found them so succulent.

Three decades after being shelved by Marvel Comics, the Marvel Swimsuit Special is returning for modern audiences to tie in with a new Marvel Rivals Summer update.
A parody of Sports Illustrated’s annual Swimsuit Special, the Marvel Swimsuit Special was cancelled back in the mid-90s in the midst of continued criticism for its objectification of characters (though we don't know for certain that this is why the concept was scrapped).
The new comic book will release in July after a “long-demanded return” to tie in with Marvel Rivals, and will feature designs for new costumes coming to the game. Players will be able to purchase new swimsuit skins for popular heroes, such as Storm, Scarlet Witch, The Incredible Hulk and more.
This new take in the Swimsuit Special will also have a story, "so you can pretend you’re reading it for the articles."

The following contains spoilers for Avengers #25, on sale now from Marvel Comics.
Marvel's current "One World Under Doom" company-wide event has seen Doctor Doom take control of the entire planet, and as a result, he has forced some unusual alliances to be formed between supervillains and superheroes in an attempt to stand up against Doom's control of the world as the Sorcerer Supreme. A sign of that strange new world order shows itself in Avengers #25, as a new Masters of the Evil forms to oppose Doom.
Avengers #25 is from writer Jed MacKay, artist Valerio Schiti, color artist Federico Blee, and letterer Cory Petit, and it brings the Avengers firmly into the "One World Under Doom" event after the World's Greatest Heroes had previously been finishing up an earlier arc that was not yet connected to the world-altering effects of Doom's conquering of the planet. Whether it be Marvel or any other comic publisher, death is frequently treated as an impermanent narrative device meant to compel the plot or characters forward. However, its impermanence threatens to steal the real meaning of death in a story. When a character or their loved one is gone, that’s supposed to be it. The trauma, grief, and sadness can motivate those around them to accomplish impossible feats.
As morbid as it sounds, fortunately, some Marvel characters never come back. Some have been gone for decades. When these characters departed the world of the living, each left behind a shock wave of impact, changing the lives and destinies of other Marvel characters forever. Their deaths mean something because they aren’t coming back. It can be hard and hurtful to see your favorite heroes and villains finally bite the dust, but their deaths often serve a greater storytelling purpose.

This Wednesday, brace yourselves for jungle action, untamed romance, and more in the pages of Marvel Comics' Rogue: The Savage Land #1.
The series, first announced last September, will be written by Tim Seeley (Venom War: Wolverine) and illustrated by new artist sensation and Marvel Art Atelier winner Zulema Lavina in her Marvel Comics debut.
The five-issue limited series promises to take fans back to Chris Claremont and Jim Lee's legendary Uncanny X-Men #269 and #274-275 where Rogue embarked on a wild journey in the Savage Land, began her passionate relationship with Magneto, and sported her now iconic Savage Land look.
However, we're sure you'll recognise that costume from the 1990s pin-ups released by Marvel Comics, with Jim Lee responsible for creating this "Savage Land" look before he left to help found Image.

The MCU Ignored the Most Crucial Part of Captain America's Avengers Leadership (& Now It's Too Late)
While the MCU has pulled from the original comics in many regards, one key aspect of Captain America's leadership of the Avengers has been left out completely. A huge mark of Caps leadership includes the Star-Spangled Avenger using the team to redeem villains and turn them into heroes.
The membership of the Avengers has been in flux since The Avengers #2 by Jack Kirby, Stan Lee, Paul Reinman, Stan Goldberg, and Artie Simek, when Hulk left the team after their first adventure. The next big shake-up occurred in The Avengers #16 by Kirby, Lee, Dick Ayers, Carl Hubbell, and Simek, in which the entire team (aside from Cap) takes a leave of absence following a harrowing battle with Baron Zemos Masters of Evil.
To take their place, villains Hawkeye, Quicksilver, and the Scarlet Witch try out for the team, becoming the new Avengers line-up by the end of the issue.

The days of waiting for Marvel's Mutants to join the MCU are officially over, with Deadpool & Wolverine just the latest tease of what's to come when the X-Men join the shared movie universe in full force. As a huge fan of the MCU and the X-Men, there is one thing I can't wait to see in action, and can almost guarantee they'll bring with them: the Psychic Rescue.

Emma Frost is one of the few Marvel characters who routinely change her look; being the femme fetale that she is, Emma's outfits are more than just clothes; it's part of her act. Frost dresses in the way she does, not just to be self-expressive, but to lure her allies and enemies, especially men, into believing that she's nothing less than the psychic, business-mogul, secret-society-leading mastermind she truly is.
While Frost is justifiably argued to be nothing more than eye candy for the male gaze, in her case thats exactly the point. She is a defiant self-made woman who, after rejecting her fathers fortune due to his appalling abuse toward her older brother, saw men capitalizing on the unfair advantages society had given them.
Emma emphasizes her sexuality, primarily through her clothing, both for the power of her own expression and to gain leverage over those shell inevitably take advantage of.

A year ago, who would've thought that "X-Men '97" would make it all the way to the Emmys? The show overcame a premise that screamed cheap nostalgia (and behind-the-scenes problems) to become a critical darling. "X-Men '97" ultimately came up short for Outstanding Animated Program to "Blue Eye Samurai," but it remains easily one of Marvel Studios' best recent achievements.

Marvel introduces a new character named Amaranth in Scarlet Witch #6, as she becomes Wanda's mysterious new protg at Agatha Harkness' request. Amaranth could rival Scarlet Witch's godlike abilities, with connections to Wanda's past and the potential to shake up the Marvel Universe. Created by Jen Bartel for the New Champions series of variant covers, Amaranth's debut hints at her extreme power and tragic past, drawing parallels to Scarlet Witch's own complicated history.
The supernatural side of the Marvel universe expands as the ultra-powerful Scarlet Witch is tasked with training a mysterious young sorceress. When Agatha Harkness is seemingly frightened by the brand-new character, she calls upon Wanda to teach her as a new pupil. With a tragic past and still-unknown origins, Wandas new student may bear a striking resemblance to her in more ways than she could imagine.

Scarlet Witch has been possessed by the evil Sorcerer Supreme Mor-i-Dun, becoming the Devourer. Her new costume is clearly inspired by Lovecraft, with dark green coloring and tentacles. Scarlet Witch and Mor-i-Dun's power is merged, turning her into one of Marvel's most terrifying beings yet.
Warning: spoilers ahead for Scarlet Witch #2!Scarlet Witch's new transformation has given her a full-blown Cthulhu makeover. Despite her status as a hero, Scarlet Witch is no stranger to the darker side of magic in the Marvel universe. In fact, her most infamous story, House of M, saw her de-power countless heroes by simply uttering the phrase "No More Mutants." Now, her darkest transformation yet takes her to Lovecraftian heights as she embraces cosmic horror in her latest solo adventure.

I Wish X-Men's Krakoa Era Could Last Forever, But I'm Convinced We Just Got Its Best Possible Ending
Krakoa was a flawed utopia that inspired hope and reflection on complex issues, making the Krakoan Age unforgettable for X-Men fans. The X-Men's era under Hickman was a beloved masterpiece that ended in a bittersweet, but satisfying way in X-Men #35, honoring its legacy. While New Krakoa offers a beacon of hope for mutants, the X-Men's duty to protect Earth's mutants meant they could never abandon their original home.
I really, truly loved the Krakoan Age of the X-Men, and I am devastated that one of the X-Men's most creative, inspiring, and bold eras is now officially over. However, I firmly believe that the ending that the X-Office gave to the Krakoan Age in X-Men #35 was the best possible conclusion to the era given the circumstances, keeping the hope of Krakoa alive while honoring its brilliant legacy.

The Krakoan era not only took X-Men storytelling to new heights, it allowed for some breathtaking artistic accomplishments, including some of the franchise's all-time great comic book covers. Artists including Russell Dauterman, R.B. Silva, & Leinil Francis Yu helped to shape the Krakoan era into a truly ascendant period in X-history, in large part thanks to their cover work. Cover artists like Dauterman, Rod Reis, and Ivan Shavrin creatively used color, shape, and contrast to extend the stories of the Krakoan era onto their covers, and to capture the essence of their mutant protagonists.
As much as the Krakoan era has been a high point for X-Men stories, it has also given readers plenty of Omega-level art, including some truly stunning covers. Iconic artists and newly introduced talents alike fully embraced the era's creative freedom, resulting in some of the X-franchise's most memorable images.

"Every design choice is actually a clue to the storylines we're doing. Nothing is arbitrary," he teased, partially labeling these designs a callback to the show's predecessor, Pryde of the X-Men. In 2023, the Juggernaut achieved redemption by being officially voted onto the X-Men and killing Thanos, but his victories came with heavy losses and pain. The Juggernaut's victory over Thanos showcased his unstoppable power on a cosmic scale, but it also left him trapped in the cosmos forever. Despite suffering setbacks, such as his head being caved in by Nimrod and being captured by Orchis, the Juggernaut has now reunited with the X-Men and is poised to shape a brighter future in 2024.
2023 was a big year for the Juggernaut in Marvel Comics canon, as he completed his redemption arc by being officially voted onto the X-Men, and he even killed Thanos. Urban fantasy comics blend elements of magic and fantasy with modern-day conflicts, exploring the metaphorical meaning humans give to their lives. These comics often feature tensions between the mythic and the scientific, delving into subjective belief and the supernatural in a seemingly objective world. Urban fantasy comics reimagine traditional myths and fables, bringing them into a contemporary context and revealing hidden histories and secrets.
Urban fantasy takes a genre normally associated with ancient and medieval times and incorporates its elements into a modern-day time and place. Pairing magic with contemporary conflicts and struggles draws out the use of magic and fantasy as metaphor, literalizing the meaning humans populate their lives with. It calls back to the original myths and fables that originated the genre and were set during the time period in which they were told.
