Evil Dead Rise introduces the franchises third Book of the Dead, which unleashes a horrifying new Deadite monster. Lee Cronins Evil Dead Rise is the fifth movie in Sam Raimis Evil Dead franchise, and while Evil Dead Rise's characters have no direct connections to past characters and events, there is one key uniting factor: The Book of the Dead. Each installment of the franchise sees the lead character contend with the cursed Book of the Dead (A.K.A. Naturom Demonto or Necronomicon Ex-Mortis), the books unique demonic creatures, and their Deadite friends and family.
In Evil Dead Rise, Beths nephew Danny (Morgan Davies) discovers vinyl recordings made by priests and an entombed book underneath his familys apartment building; he unintentionally releases a demonic spirit from the book, which turns his mother and Beths older sister, Ellie, into the lead Deadite. Chaos ensues as Deadite Ellie attacks the family in their apartment building,...

The Evil Dead franchise hasn't forgotten about Mia from the 2013 movie, who deserves a sequel over Ash Williams. Mia, played by Jane Levy, was underrated in Evil Dead (2013), and provided a compelling protagonist for the franchise's remake movie. While Ash Williams is iconic, Mia has a compelling story left to tell in the Evil Dead franchise.
While two Evil Dead spinoff movies are already in the works, theres a former franchise character who still deserves a big-screen return in a future sequel. Sam Raimis Evil Dead franchise rose to prominence in the 1980s following Ash Williams (Bruce Campbell) in various campy confrontations with undead creatures known as Deadites, who are summoned from cursed books referred to as the Necronomicon. Co-writer/director Sebastian Vaniek hopes to start filming the Evil Dead spinoff in late 2024 or early 2025. The spinoff is expected to have a Halloween 2025 release date, according to Vaniek. Vaniek has been given "100% creative freedom" by franchise creator/producer Sam Raimi for the new installment.
As the franchise forges ahead in a new direction, co-writer/director Sébastien Vaniček reveals his hopeful release window for the Evil Dead spinoff. Plot details remain unknown for the next installment in the Sam Raimi-created franchise, though it has been described as being a spinoff, seemingly taking a page out of 2023's Rise playbook by focusing on a different story in the Deadite-driven universe.

Some viewers find that Halloween H20 is a better reboot than Halloween 2018, as it allowed Laurie to move on from her past and adopt a new identity. The twist in The Cabin in the Woods, where monsters are manipulated by technicians, was seen as nonsensical and not scary by many viewers. Some viewers consider The Evil Dead remake to be the worst movie in the series as it lacked the essence and fun of the original.

Evil Dead 6 needs a new character to replace Ash Williams, and the best candidate is Brandy Barr, Ash's long-lost daughter introduced in Ash vs Evil Dead season She is a clever and motivated high school senior who could become a badass deadite-slaying hero. Brandy's role would continue the franchise's focus on strong female leads, following in the footsteps of characters like Mia Allen and Beth. This would add to the franchise's appeal and create a pantheon of badass deadite-slaying women. There are various ways to bring Brandy into Evil Dead 6, such as searching for her missing father, coming into possession of the Necronomicons, or investigating one of the cabins. The possibilities for a Brandy-centric storyline are limitless.

The timeline of the Evil Dead franchise is a bit confusing, but an explanation for Ash's return could be provided in the new installment. Characters like Mia Allen, Beth Bixler, Kassie, Pablo Bolivar, and Kelly Maxwell are likely to appear in Evil Dead 6, providing a satisfying continuation for fans.

In Evil Dead Rise, Beth has to find a way to stop her possessed sister, Ellie, in a cramped Los Angeles apartment complex. Sadly, Ellie's trying to kill her kids to raise an army of Deadites. This time, the setting is a bit more dynamic than a lakeside cabin, creating a contemporary edge as Beth resorts to violence.

However, as fresh as director Lee Cronin makes this iteration, key elements of Evil Dead Rise are connected to other entries in the franchise, ensuring all eras of Evil Dead have a powerful thread running through them all.

The Evil Dead franchise came back to life one more time thanks to Evil Dead Rise, which proved that the franchise doesn’t need Ash Williams anymore, but it definitely needs Bruce Campbell. Back in 1981, Sam Raimi brought the supernatural horror movie The Evil Dead, marking his feature directorial debut. The Evil Dead was the beginning of a horror franchise formed by a total of five movies (including two reboots), a TV series, video games, comic books, and more, most of them following the adventures of the franchise’s Final Boy, Ash Williams.
The Evil Dead followed a group of five college students who travel to an isolated cabin in the woods. After playing a mysterious tape found in the cabin, they unleash a legion of demons and spirits, who end up possessing most of the group. Jane Levy was one of the prominent scream queens of the 2010s. She portrayed Mia Allen in Fede Álvarez's 2013 remake of Evil Dead, and she teamed up with Álvarez once again when she starred in his 2016 horror-thriller Don't Breathe.
Levy's performance in Evil Dead (2013) was praised across the board, and the character of Mia was well-received by fans. As a result, some people were left wondering why Levy didn't reprise her role as Mia in Evil Dead Rise. According to an interview from Collider, the actor simply wanted to take a break from the horror genre due to its demanding nature.

Warning! This article contains Spoilers for Evil Dead Rise!Evil Dead Rise’s cliffhanger ending is a brilliant callback to Sam Raimi’s original The Evil Dead movie, which was meant to conclude with Ash Williams’ death. Lee Cronin’s Evil Dead Rise is a standalone sequel to Sam Raimi’s classic Evil Dead trilogy and Fede Álvarez’s 2013 Evil Dead reboot, so the stories of survivors Ash Williams and Mia Allen exist within the same universe as Lily Sullivan’s chainsaw-wielding Deadite fighter Beth Bixler. With the 2023 movie picking the chainsaw back up to battle a new round of Deadites and the third Necronomicon, Evil Dead Rise includes numerous Easter eggs that honor classic moments and character fates from the past movies – even up until the very last moment.

To credit Fede Álvarez’s Evil Dead as the motivating force behind “Revenge of the Remakes” wouldn’t be an audacious claim. By golden template standards for reanimating beloved horror franchises, it remains a remarkable exemplification alongside titans like Maniac or The Blob. As an underworldly standalone feature, it’s one of the fiercest, scare-you-senseless releases since its April 2013 premiere. I still remember every howl, sunken gasp, and pure release of elation during my midnight showtime—”That’S How You Execute A Remake,” dominating lobby chatter and ride home discussions. From there, reactionary adventures into do-over culture solidified as the investigative analysis you’ve been reading on Bloody Disgusting month after month.

A new first-look image from Evil Dead Rise shows off the main cast of the horror sequel. The Evil Dead franchise began in 1981 with Sam Raimi's breakthrough film The Evil Dead, which followed a group of young adults being beset by Candarian demons in a cabin in the woods and spawned an increasingly slapstick-heavy trilogy that ran through 1992's Army of Darkness. The film received an unrelated remake in 2013 before original star Bruce Campbell returned as his character Ash Williams in the Starz series Ash vs. Evil Dead, which ran from 2015 to 2018. Halloween is just around the corner, meaning that horror film buffs are enjoying their favorite season of the year: slasher season. A key component of any good slasher film is the promise of a "final girl," the lone surviving female character who confronts the monster and lives to tell the tale.
Every classic slasher film has a final girl, but just like any other character, their personalities vary. Some fans prefer a stone-faced final girl, while others like characters who show some vulnerability. Horror lovers have taken to Reddit to talk about the best final girls in slasher history.
Nancy Thompson - Nightmare On Elm Street (1984)
About their favorite final girl, Redditor lordbochiflacko writes, "Nancy in Nightmare On Elm Street. She’s really a great character and isn’t helpless and scared the whole time. She actively tries to fight back and basically becomes a hero by the end of the third one.

A few days ago, we learned that the Mia Allen character from Evil Dead 2013 is going to be added to Evil Dead: The Game as a playable character in September. Now the game’s developers have revealed that’s not the only update coming to the game next month. They’re also adding in a new demon class – a class called the Plaguebringers, which are the Deadites seen in the Evil Dead sequel Army of Darkness! Castle Kandar, the primary setting of Army of Darkness, was just added to the game as a playable map last month.

In addition to the remake’s Mia Allen, more new content is coming to Evil Dead: The Game in September, with Saber Interactive revealing an upcoming Demon Class this afternoon.
Titled “Plaguebringer,” the Free Demon Class will be added into the game next month, and it’s based on Sam Raimi’s Army of Darkness. The 1992 sequel had recently made its way into the game with the first Dlc Update, which featured a brand new Castle Kandar map.
It looks like the “Plaguebringer” class is led by the Possessed Witch from Army of Darkness, flanked by a Skeleton Deadite and the Pit Witch that Ash memorably tangled with.
“Plaguebringer” will be the fourth Demon Class in Evil Dead: The Game, with other playable villains from the franchise including Henrietta, Evil Ash, and Eligos from “Ash vs. Evil Dead.”

Mia was played by Jane Levy in the 2013 movie, the sole survivor of the film’s Kandarian nightmare. Beloved big-chinned B-movie superstar Bruce Campbell has now confirmed that the next movie in the Evil Dead franchise, Evil Dead Rise, will begin filming this year. While Campbell will sadly not be returning as Ash for the sequel, he has teased a few scant details about the direction of the movie.
"Planning to shoot the next Evil Dead movie in New Zealand later this year. [It's] set in a modern-day urban setting. It's out of the woods."
Bruce Campbell has so far starred as Ash in the first three Evil Dead movies, the first of which was released back in 1981. The actor has since reprised the role for several spin-offs and video game adventures including three seasons of Starz's Ash vs. Evil Dead. Rather than strapping on a chainsaw and getting to work himself, Bruce Campbell will instead be a producer on Evil Dead Rise, much like he was for 2013's...

The Evil Dead franchise is seen to be inextricably linked to the larger-than-life portrayal of the series hero Ash Williams by Bruce Campbell. So much so that previous attempts to make an Evil Dead movie with a new lead did not fare as well as hoped. Now, Campbell, who is producing Evil Dead Rise to be directed by Lee Cronin, has revealed that the film will feature another new lead who is female.
"Rebooting [a series] can be very confusing and frustrating and not always successful. Reboot, sequel, remake we have all these crazy terms. What we're doing now is we're saying," Look, this is another 'Evil Dead' movie and that book gets around, a lot of people run into it and it's another story." The main key with Evil Dead is they're just regular people who are battling what seems to be a very unstoppable evil, and so that's where the horror comes from.

Remember back in 1998 when everyone threw their arms in the arms and complained incessantly about Gus Van Sant’s shot-for-shot remake of Alfred Hitchcock’s Psycho? Well if Gus van Sant had followed the formula of Derek Carl and Hank Huffman’s remake of The Brain That Wouldn’t Die then maybe there wouldn’t have been that many complaints!
If you haven’t seen the original, this version of The Brain That Wouldn’t Die tells the story of a mad scientist Dr. Bill Courtner (Patrick D. Green) who develops a means to keep human body parts alive. After a car accident he keeps his fiancée Jan Compton’s (Rachael Perrell Fosket) severed head alive for days in his laboratory.

Original Evil Dead director Sam Raimi says a new movie in the classic horror franchise is being developed and the plan is for the project to have someone new in the director's chair. Speaking with fans at New York Comic-Con while promoting the upcoming reboot of The Grudge, Raimi spoke about the current status of the Evil Dead series. "There's more Evil Dead coming," Raimi teased, stopping short of revealing any specific plot details. Raimi also told fans Bruce Campbell would be on board as a producer, but wouldn't be starring in the movie as the actor is "tired of me throwing blood on him."
Raimi's horror franchise began with The Evil Dead in 1981. The classic horror movie starred Campbell as Ashley J. "Ash" Williams, a young man who travels to a remote cabin with his girlfriend and some pals and inadvertently conjures a demonic entity. The 1987 sequel Evil Dead II...

"It's a film that's bound to make your inner child smile." Perhaps? Indican Pictures has debuted an official trailer for an indie comedy titled Zilla and Zoe, which originally premiered at the Portland Film Festival in 2017. This amusing, heartfelt, fun comedy set in Portland is about a young 10-year-old girl named Zoe who is obsessed with gore and horror. To win the contest of her dreams and pursue a career in filmmaking, she will have to turn her sister's wedding into a horror film. Of course, it doesn't exactly go as planned. Or maybe it does? Aida Valentine stars as Zoe, with a cast including Sam Kamerman, Greg James, Kurt Conroyd, Mia Allen, Julie Elizabeth Knell, and Holden Goyette. It looks funny and endearing, and also very self-referential about a young filmmaker making a masterpiece film any way she can. Check it out. Here's the official trailer (+ poster) for Jessica Scalise's Zilla and Zoe,...
