Streaming For Free On Holy Week: Faith-Based Docu-Drama ‘Strange Destiny’ Tells Story Of Courageous Nun Mother Veronica

More than a century after her death, a Catholic nun known as Veronica of the Passion is venerated for her mission to transform women’s education in India. On Holy Week, the most sacred time of year for Christians, a documentary drama about Mother Veronica is being made available to stream for free on Tubi and other platforms.

Strange Destiny, written and directed by Jigyasa Taneja Sethi, tells the story of Sophie Leeves, born in 1823 to British parents living in Constantinople (present day Istanbul). “At 19, Sophie was engaged to a Marine officer,” narration in the film notes. “She could look forward to a wonderful married life, but a far higher destiny awaited her.”

Actor Chris Chalk Makes Directorial Debut With Horror-Thriller ‘Our Deadly Vows,’ Now Playing In Theaters

A festive get together of friends turns dark in the new horror-thriller Our Deadly Vows, now playing in theaters in limited release. Actor Chris Chalk makes his directorial debut with the film, in which he stars opposite his wife, K.D. Chalk.

The film from production companies Golden Concorde, Triangle Road Entertainment and Global Genesis Group co-stars Ashlei Sharpe (Star Trek: Picard), along with Cesa Pledger, Eden Marryshow, Chantal Nchako, Byron Bronson, and Natalie Woolams-Torres. Entertainment Squad, a boutique distributor founded by Shaked Berenson, acquired the film in May and is handling distribution. Our Deadly Vows becomes available on demand and digitally beginning August 1.

In today’s film news, Virginia Madsen takes on a supernatural thriller; Jason Wiles, Michael Beach, Lonnie Chavis, and Ryan Merriman star in “Sunny Daze”; and FilmNation takes sales rights to Almodovar’s latest.

Castings

Virginia Madsen and “The Florida Project” star Valeria Cotto will star in the independent supernatural movie “Sarah” with shooting starting in Los Angeles in May.

Tallulah Evans will play the titular role as Sarah. Rachel Crow (“Bumble Bee”), Spencer List, Malaak Hattab, and Daniel Pinder have also been cast. The project centers on a teen harboring a dark secret as she visits her relatives for the summer. Madsen will be playing an occultist in the film.

The screenplay was written by Alexander Garcia, who will also be directing and producing under his Multi-Valence productions banner alongside producing partner Anne Stimac with Stuart Arbury. Shaeda Moghaddam is executive producing.
