Image
Throughout his career, actor John Rhys-Davies has appeared in two of the biggest blockbuster franchises ever: Peter Jackson'sThe Lord of the Ringstrilogy and theIndiana Jones films. However, the actor, appearing at a recent convention, warned attendees about the future when it comes to the use of a certain technology.

In an appearance at the FanX Tampa Bay Comic Convention this past weekend, Rhys Davies, who played the loyal dwarf, Gimli, in Peter Jackson’s TheLord of the Rings trilogy, touched on the use of artificial intelligence in Hollywood and in general. Per Collider.

“There is no future for actors,” Rhys-Davies said during his panel. Image
In a major shockeroo announcement, Gold Derby can reveal that FX is shifting the popular “Shōgun” away from the limited series races for the 2024 Emmys and will compete in all the drama categories instead. That rumor has been circulating throughout Hollywood for almost two weeks, but it is now official according to FX. How will this affect the dramatic races for series, acting, directing, writing and crafts?

Since debuting in February, the FX program has been enjoying critical raves and impressive ratings. It’s an adaptation of James Clavell‘s 1975 historical novel, following an English sailor (Cosmo Jarvis) who ends up shipwrecked in Japan. Lord Yoshii Toranaga (Hiroyuki Sanada) uncovers secrets that could benefit him in the political wars to come as he tries to rule one of the five Regents in Japan. It features awe-inspiring production values and notable performances from Anna Sawai, Moeka Hoshi, Fumi Nikaido, Tadanobu Asano,...

Director Rhys Davies and Writer Kris Tearse of Zombie Undead Reunite for The Desolation
When you find a pairing that works, you stick with it. Peanut butter and jelly, pomp and circumstance, Murtaugh and Riggs! Those are just a few long-running, successful combinations. This is certainly why Ghost Versus Ghost Productions is proud to announce the reunion of the creative team behind Zombie Undead for their next project, The Desolation.

From the Press Release

Director Rhys Davies and writer Kris Tearse (pictured right), hot off of the successful UK DVD release of Zombie Undead by Metrodome Distribution, are teaming up once again to bring The Desolation to life.

In addition to writing The Desolation, Tearse is joining his Ghost Versus Ghost Productions partner, Christopher J. Herbert, as producers of this psychological/supernatural horror movie.

In the best tradition of horror, The Desolation is a dark and unnerving examination of the lines between sanity and madness. The film revolves around a former psychiatric patient recuperating...

This week's new films
Arthur (12A)

(Jason Winer, 2011, Us) Russell Brand, Helen Mirren, Greta Gerwig, Jennifer Garner, Luis Guzmán. 110 mins

You can see what they were thinking: "it worked for one difficult-to-market English comic, so let's try it again". But somewhere between the moon and New York City this romcom seems to have lost some of its spirit and spontaneity. There are some snappy lines and funny moments, but Brand's overprivileged wastrel is nowhere near as cuddly as Dudley Moore's was – or as convincingly drunk. Sometimes, hair of the dog isn't the answer.

How I Ended This Summer (12A)

(Aleksei Popogrebsky, 2010, Rus) Grigory Dobrygin, Sergei Puskepalis. 130 mins

Spare and distinctive two-hander set in remote Arctic Russia, where the endless daylight, monotonous work, some terrible news and a touch of radiation exacerbate generational differences to deadly levels.

Pina (U)

(Wim Wenders, 2011, Ger/Fra/UK) 104 mins

A 3D tribute to the work, rather than the life,...
