Cross Creek, Jkin Films Set Cody Brotter To Dig Into Tale Of College Pals Who Tunneled Under Berlin Wall And Freed 29 At Height Of Cold War

Exclusive: Tyler Thompson’s Cross Creek Pictures has teamed with Jay Kinra’s Jkin Films to produce Dig. Black List scribe Cody Brotter has been set to write a geopolitical thriller inspired by the true events of Tunnel 29, the famous escape route built under the Berlin Wall during the height of the Cold War.

The film will offer a rare first-hand account of what really happened during the construction of the tunnel, which was built in 1962 by a culturally diverse group of International college students from Italy, Germany & India. They met while attending The University of West Berlin and living in the same college dorm. The students were secretly aided by NBC News, which provided funding in exchange for exclusive access to capture footage of the escape. Dueling Matt Drudge Biopics in the Works at Cross Creek, Prospect Park

Days after Cross Creek Pictures acquired a spec script about the life and career of conservative news mogul Matt Drudge, another Drudge biopic appears to be in the works.

Jeff Kwatinetz’s Prospect Park has acquired the rights to “The Drudge Revolution” from author and journalist Matthew Lysiak and intends to develop it into a feature film, according to CNN. Lysiak also wrote the script for the film based on his book about the Drudge Report founder.

Ben Hurwitz is overseeing the project.

Exclusive: Cross Creek Pictures has acquired Drudge, the Black List spec script by Cody Brotter about internet reporter Matt Drudge’s rise to power. ’

Cross Creek’s Tyler Thompson will produce and Ryan Smith of Streamline will be exec producer.

Drudge’s tip sheet and aggregator The Drudge Report came to power in the in the 1990s as he broke President Bill Clinton’s dalliance with White House intern Monica Lewinsky. While Clinton first famously denied the story, Drudge revelations of evidence such as the semen-stained dress forced Clinton to cop to the embarrassing affair. It forever changed the media and political landscapes, and Drudge did it all from his desktop computer in a one-bedroom apartment in Hollywood. His Drudge Report remains an influential site.

Update with final ranked list: The 15th annual Black List was released Monday, with Ken Kobayashi’s romance screenplay Move On leading the coveted rundown of unproduced screenplays in Hollywood with 29 votes.

The screenplay follows Teddy, who thinks he’s the only living person left in a world where humanity is frozen in time. That is until his ex-girlfriend, Leyna, shows up at his doorstep. Together, they venture to find the cause behind the freeze and in the process, confront the issues that plagued their relationship before it’s too late.

Some titles on this year’s list have already been snatched up by studios. Final ranked with storylines and reps info after noon post: The Black List, Hollywood’s annual rundown of unproduced screenplays, unveiled its titles today in Easter Egg fashion, hiding all 73 screenplay selections in a six minute-42 second second short The Last Days of Tj Staggs which starred Paul Scheer as an agent who pulls a Rip Van Winkle in 1998, wakes up 20 years later, and realizes how the town has changed.

The short was directed and co-written by Noga Pnueli (who also has the script Meet Cute on the list with 12 votes). Danya Jimenez, Hannah McMechan and Kevin Oeser also wrote as well and the short featured such talent as Sunita Mani, Constance Wu, Jay Ellis and Yvette Nicole Brown.

The Black List’s 2018 List of Best Unproduced Screenplays
Rounding up the best unproduced screenplays in Hollywood, as voted on by hundreds of film executives, The Black List has been a strong resource to clue one in on projects to potentially anticipate, but first, to kickstart Hollywood on bringing them to screen. Last year’s chart-topper, the post-wwii drama Ruin by Matthew Firpo and Ryan Firpo, secured Margot Robbie to star with direction by Macbeth and Snowtown‘s Justin Kurzel. Today we have this year’s edition.

Topping the 2018 edition is Frat Boy Genius by Elissa Karasik, which tells the story of Snapchat with a unique perspective. The technology and media world seems to be wholly represented with the rest of the list as well, including films on Matt Drudge, Cambridge Analytica, Gawker Media, and more.

The 13th edition of the Black List has been unveiled, and it might include a future Best Picture winner: Four of the 10 most recent winners of the Academy’s biggest prize were featured on the list, as were 10 of the last 22 Best Screenplay winners. More than 300 executives and financiers vote on the list, which is compiled by Franklin Leonard.

Scripts had to receive at least seven mentions to be included. This year’s edition features the highest proportion of screenplays by and/or about women since the Black List’s inception.

Elissa Karasik’s Snapchat drama “Frat Boy Genius,” and scripts about Matt Drudge and the father of the Williams sisters are at the top of the 2018 version of the Black List.

“Frat Boy Genius” is a fictional story centering on a Snapchat employee, who chronicles the rise of her former Stanford classmate — “preeminent douchebag” and current boss Evan Spiegel.

The list, now in its 13th year, was unveiled on Monday and compiled by Franklin Leonard’s Black List organization. The list of the best unproduced screenplays in Hollywood is based on suggestions of more than 300 film executives, each of whom contributed the names of up to 10 favorite scripts that were written in, or are somehow uniquely associated with, 2018, and will not have begun principal photography during this calendar year. Scripts had to receive at least seven mentions to be included on the Black List.

The Black List 2018 is here — a survey of the best screenplays that have not yet gone into production.

This year, the 73 films included films about Serena and Venus Williams’ hard-driving father (Zach Baylin’s “King Richard”), the sexual assault case against former NBA star Kobe Bryant (Mike Schneider’s “Mamba”) and Cody Brotter’s “Drudge” about The Drudge Report founder Matt Drudge and how he broke the Monica Lewinsky scandal.

The list also includes Emmy winner Lena Waithe’s “Queen & Slim,” a disgruntled Snapchat employee’s account of founder Evan Spiegel (Elissa Karasik’s “Frat Boy Genius”) and Gary Spinelli’s “Rub & Tug” a project that has been in limbo since Scarlett Johansson’s exit from the project because of objections to her playing a trans man.
