Fieldwork in Vatican City
Nura Ashimova is an Award winning Kazakh-born American Filmmaker. Born and raised in Kazakhstan, in early 2006, Nura made her solo journey to the US as an international student. Upon completion her post-graduate studies at UCLA, where she focused on Marketing and Advertising as well as Film Studies, Nura embarked on a career in television and motion pictures.

Nura's early notable work was as a member of the Emmy nominated production design team for National Geographic's "The Skyjacker That Got Away." Nura played a key role, researching, certifying, and acquiring period-specific props and set decoration that contributed greatly to the film's Emmy Nomination in the Set Design category. Following that experience, Nura excelled in every step of the film production process, holding positions as varied as Production Coordinator, Set Production Supervisor, First Assistant Director, Production Manager, Researcher, Casting Director, Associate Producer, Field Producer, and Producer. Nura even appeared as an on-camera contributor for Travel Channel's "In Search of Monsters." Nura's production experience came full circle in 2017 when she joined the post production team for TruTV's "Billy on the Street." During Nura's season on the show, "Billy on the Street" received its first Emmy Nomination. For her short film "Animal Relief Coalition for Haiti," filmed in and around Port-au-Prince shortly after the devastating earthquake in 2010, Nura received a Bronze Telly Award. "A.R.C.H." received world-wide attention among the animal rights organizations like IFAW (the International Fund for Animal Welfare) and the ASPCA, just to mention a few that used the film to raise funds as well as motivate and train their field personnel. In 2020, Nura received the coveted Gold Telly Award for her work as one of the producers of the short PSA film "Casa de Carne." In addition to her work behind the camera, Nura also studied acting at the prestigious Beverly Hills Playhouse. Her training, hard work, and perseverance earned her membership in SAG-AFTRA.

Along with a Bachelor's in Economics, graduating Summa Cum Laude from the Kazakh State University, Nura also studied distance-learning ACCA (Association of Chartered Certified Accountants) in Glasgow, Scotland. As a young student, Nura opted to live with host families, first in England when she studied English at King's College in Cambridge, then in the US, when she was a TOEFL student in Los Angeles. Nura explained her choice of staying with local families as an extracurricular activity when one has to make conversation with native English speakers at home, as well as immerse in the local culture quickly. Nura was raised bilingual, speaking Kazakh and Russian. She is fluent in English and conversational in Italian. In 2015, Nura became a citizen of the United States of America.
