A Fan-Favorite Bl is Breaking Box Office Records

A top boys' love anime franchise is shattering previous box office records for the series with its latest entry. Given Movie 3: To the Sea, which opened theatrically in Japan on Sept. 20, 2024, has now earned over 300 million yen (~US$2 million) in box office sales, marking it as the saga's highest-grossing film to date.

The Given series is a mainstay in the boys' love genre, which has experienced a popularity boom thanks to titles like Given earning attention and high praise both domestically and internationally. Via Animate Times, To the Sea quickly climbed to the top of Filmarks "First Day Satisfaction Ranking" and has now held the no. 1 spot in Japans mini-theater rankings for seven consecutive weeks. The movie continues its exploration into the blossoming romantic relationships of the young men making up the films focal fictional band.

Boys' Love Anime Twilight Out of Focus Premieres in July 2024 [Updated]

Update 03/18/24: Added production staff details from anime's official website. The upcoming TV anime adaptation of Jyanome's Twilight Out of Focus boys' love manga today revealed a key visual, more cast members and a July 2024 broadcast in Japan. Reprising their roles from the series' audio drama is Yoshitsugu Matsuoka as Mao Tsuchiya, Yuma Uchida as Hisashi Otomo, Makoto Furukawa as Jin Kikuchihara, Masatomo Nakazawa as Giichi Ichikawa, Takuya Eguchi as Rei Inaba and Soma Saito as Shion Yoshino. Key Visual Related: Twilight Out of Focus Bl Anime Debuts 1st Teaser Visual Toshinori Watabe ( Teppen!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The Creator Of Blue Lock's Other Manga Needs An Anime Adaptation

Muneyuki Kaneshiro is best known for his popular sports manga, Blue Lock, but another one of his works also deserves an anime adaptation. We Did It is a manga that explores themes of regret and the consequences of one's actions, making it a contemplative tale that is perfect for the modern anime landscape. Although it has already received a live-action adaptation, We Did It is better suited to the anime medium.

Muneyuki Kaneshiro has reached new levels of renown thanks to his hugely popular sports manga series Blue Lock. However, the shonen sports manga is only one small aspect of Kaneshiro's catalog of greater works. In fact, the darker, more introspective tinge of Blue Lock that helps it stand out from other sports series is actually indicative of many of his earlier works. In particular, one such series is criminally underrated and would fit in perfectly with the modern anime environment.
