Steven Knight has penned a series about the Guinness family and it has just begun production. More on the project below.
Lately, Steven Knight has been busy prepping the upcoming Peaky Blinders film which is due to start filming this September, but it looks like the British writer has had time to work on other things too.
Netflix has announced today that a new series, titled House Of Guinness, has gone into production with Knight credited as writer, creator and executive producer. As you might guess from the title, the series will look at the family behind one of the world’s most popular breweries.
Anthony Boyle, Louis Partridge, Emily Fairn, Fionn O’Shea, James Norton, Niamh McCormack, Seamus O’Hara, Jack Gleeson, Dervla Kirwan, Michael McElhatton, Danielle Galligan, David Wilmot and Hilda Fay will star in the Netflix series, but the streamer hasn’t provided a release window for House Of Guinness quite just yet.

In August 2020, a devastating blast shook Beirut to its core. While rubble and heartbreak littered the streets in its wake, one production company remained committed to their upcoming film.
Costa Brava told the story of a family seeking refuge from corruption and pollution. As bombshell after bombshell rocked their battered city, the crew faced the immense challenge of mounting their meaningful drama amid the unfolding mayhem.
Director Mounia Akl and her talented team exemplified resilience as they worked to complete their story—a story that would come to reflect Lebanon’s own endurance against the odds.
Lebanon’s Interwoven Crises
The opening shots of “Dancing on the Edge of a Volcano” take us back decades to gain crucial context. In Maroun Bagdadi’s “Whispers,” a poet wanders the ruins of war-torn Beirut. Her anguished words echo through time, capturing the aftermath of civil conflicts that tore her beloved city apart.

Lou Ye's docufiction hybrid “Unfinished Film” is one of the best films made about life during pandemic, even though it wasn't originally planned to be that. It was the new circumstances that forced Ye to change his plans, when he and his crew were caught in the lockdown in a place near Wuhan to make a completely different kind of movie. What came out of it is a captivating act of genius which captures the exact moment when normality got squashed by the unpredictable chain of events: first the pandemic, and then a complete lockdown. Shot by multiple cameras, “Unfinished Film” is a movie within a movie, showing people in front and behind the camera, each absorbed in their own line of duty. But the actors and crew members are also caught off-guard, and at one point even Ye himself uexpectedly appears on screen, doing his directing job. In the movie,...

The port explosion of 2020 damaged just about everything in the city and this painful but tender doc follows a film crew who try to resume work
‘How much bad news can you get in one day?” That’s the production manager of a Lebanese movie called Costa Brava, which is due to start shooting any day. But Beirut is in chaos. It’s 2020, just weeks after the catastrophic port explosion that killed more than 200 people and injured thousands. The blast destroyed the office of the production company, and cinematographer Joe Saade lost an eye. After agonised meetings, Costa Brava’s young director Mounia Akl and her crew have decided to go ahead with the shoot.
Filmed by Cyril Aris, this fly-on-the-wall study is a painful watch, with some heartbreaking moments; but it’s tender too, and funny. As the shoot date approaches, the film looks doomed. A currency crisis triggered...

The second day of Dublin’s Storyhouse screenwriting festival kicked off with a bang on Friday as established writer-directors Ali Abbasi (Holy Spider), Mounia Akl (Costa Brava Lebanon) and Stacey Gregg (Ballywalter) all discussed at length the process of how they achieve their best work and how they balance the writer-director relationship.
“I think it’s not necessarily a process of digging deeper – sometimes it’s about digging sideways,” Abbasi told the Light House cinema audience. “I don’t necessarily think that working on something for ten years makes it better.”
Abbasi’s Holy Spider is a film noir based on the true story of the “Spider Killer” Saeed Hanaei who saw himself as on a mission from God as he killed 16 women who were sex workers between 2000 and 2001 in the Iranian holy city of Mashhad, and Abbasi said that when it came to making the Palme d’Or contender...

Cyril Aris and his frustrated protagonists in “Dancing on the Edge of a Volcano” are done mincing words.
“I hope this film can be screened the way it is, although it’s not painting the brightest picture of the Lebanese political class. And if they censor it, thank you for the publicity. I will take it,” he says following its premiere at Karlovy Vary Film Festival.
“In Lebanon, we have leaders who are experts in divide-and-conquer. That’s how they fire up their base and that’s what happened in the port of Beirut, too. There is this theory that everyone knew what was happening, but they were paid for their silence.”
In his documentary, produced by Reynard Films and Abbout Productions, Aris explores the aftermath of the “traumatic” 2020 explosion.

Leave it to a film production company to make the best of a bad situation. At least cinematically, that is. In 2020, the Beirut-based Abbout Productions was in pre-production on a film called Costa Brava, Lebanon when the city was rocked by a devastating explosion at the Port of Beirut that decimated much of the area. Cyril Aris’ documentary, world-premiering at Karlovy Vary, chronicles the production team’s determined efforts to go ahead with the film despite a plethora of obstacles. Not only did they have to deal with catastrophic damage to homes and offices, but also the pandemic, fuel shortages and a currency in free fall. Dancing on the Edge of a Volcano compellingly tells the story of filmmaking by fire.
Beirut, of course, is a place that has seen more than its share of travails, as the opening footage of the city in ruins in 1980 during the Lebanese Civil War illustrates.

The trailer has debuted for feature documentary “Dancing on the Edge of the Volcano,” which will have its world premiere in the Main Competition at Karlovy Vary Film Festival.
Cyril Aris’ film centers on the aftermath of the catastrophic explosion at the port of Beirut on Aug. 4, 2020, which leaves a large part of the Lebanese capital in ruins. In the midst of the chaos, a film crew face an overwhelming decision: to continue the production of their movie or abandon it? They are torn between their firm belief in the transformative power of cinema and a deep sense of cynicism about its ability to effect change in a nation plagued by economic turmoil and societal collapse.
In a statement, Aris said: “For a region mired in political strife and economic difficulties, art has always been deemed as luxury not only by most Arab governments, but by the general population. Thus,...

The BBC has now confirmed that shooting on the series is underway – it’ll be a five-part drama with episodes running at one hour each. And while Graham’s Sous Chef Carly who’ll be at the centre of the show, now running her own restaurant with much of Andy’s team...

Filming has begun in Manchester, U.K., on “Boiling Point,” the five-part BBC series that follows on from the award-winning film of the same name.
The one shot film followed head chef Andy (Stephen Graham), who wrangles his team on the busiest day of the year. The series picks up six months on from where the film left off and sees sous chef Carly (Vinette Robinson) as head chef at her own restaurant, with many of Andy’s original team alongside her. As the pressure mounts to keep the restaurant full, Carly begins to feel the magnitude of responsibility that comes with running her own place.
As previously revealed, Robinson, Graham and Hannah Walters will reprise their roles from the multi award-winning film. They will be joined by the film’s co-stars Ray Panthaki, Gary Lamont, Áine Rose Daly, Taz Skylar, Daniel Larkai, Stephen McMillan, Hannah Traylen and Izuka Hoyle.
