Exclusive: Netflix has picked up a doc on Nedd Brockmann, an electrician who ran 4,000 km across Australia to help the homeless.

The one-off from WildBear Entertainment and Bursty Company will be made available on the streamer in Australia and New Zealand on February 10.

Runn – The Nedd Brockmann Documentary tells the story of a quintessential Aussie bloke with a sense of humor who embarked on a mission in 2022. Motivated by a deep empathy for the homeless crisis gripping his nation and keen to highlight the problem, the electrician set off on a solo 4000km run across the vast continent, starting at Perth’s Cottesloe Beach and ending at Sydney’s Bondi Beach after 47 days. Celebs including Lily James, Hamish Blake and Ash Barty showed support for his endeavor and his run raised millions for the homeless. He has since become a motivational speaker and written two books.

Documentary Review: Iron Fists and Kung Fu Flicks (2019) by Serge Ou
Image
It is always a pleasure to watch documentaries about the golden age of Hk action cinema and Serge Ou provides a very entertaining, if somewhat rushed exploration of the whole concept, in a style that matches the speed of those movies.

In that fashion, the movie begins with Run Run Shaw and the Shaw Brothers Empire, which is proclaimed as “The Death Star of Hong Kong movie studios”, due to its hoarding of actors, stages and equipment. Through a number of interviews with people such as Cheng Pei Pei and Wilson Yip, whose names barely stay on screen, the documentary deals with all aspects and stories of the era, from the way they implemented the sound, to the choreographies that were inspired from the Chinese opera, to the music. The way directors like Chang Cheh and Lau Kar Leung reinvigorated, changed and eventually shaped the genre is presented next. The...

From there, the programming places special emphasis on two categories: Mexican genre film and Lgbtq+ stories. For the former, there will be screenings of three-rarely seen Mexican horror classics, as well as lectures and a shorts program for young Mexican filmmakers.

The festival will also include screenings of some landmark Lgbtq+ horror films, including the new documentary...

2010 Atlanta Underground Film Festival: Official Lineup
The 7th annual Atlanta Underground Film Festival is like having four different fests crammed into an exhaustive three days on Aug. 27-29. It’s an outrageous underground fest, an animation festival, a documentary fest and a horror movie festival: The culmination of a month of fests run by Atlanta’s Festival League. There’s tons of short films, documentaries, features and more.

There’s lots of great stuff to recommend, too. On the last night of the fest, there will be a screening of Chris Hansen‘s second feature film, Endings, which tells the touching story of three people spending their last day on Earth together. The film was reviewed on Bad Lit a few months ago. On the short film front, there’s Loretta Hintz‘s wild lesbian bestiality (sort of) tale, The Sheep and the Ranch Hand and two films by the perpetually awesome Neil Ira Needleman, Meeskit...
