Stranger Things Season 5 Will Officially Avoid An Annoying Problem From The Past 2 Seasons
Image
The end of Stranger Things is near, and while some might be worried about how the story will conclude, fans don't have to worry about one issue the series has encountered in the past two seasons. Netflix's sci-fi horror mystery drama TV show, created by the Duffer Brothers, has taken the world by storm since its premiere in 2016. While many have praised Stranger Things for its storytelling, 1980s homages, acting, directing, and more, some have found a handful of things to criticize (mostly about how long it takes for new episodes to be released).

Netflix confirmed that Stranger Things season 5 will premiere sometime in 2025 and feature eight episodes — "Chapter One: The Crawl," "The Vanishing of [Tba]," "The Turnbow Trap," "Sorcerer," "Shock Jock," "Escape from Camazotz," "The Bridge," and "The Rightside Up."

The good news is that, after almost three years since the ending of Stranger Things season 4, season 5 will debut in 2025. Of course,...

Stranger Things' Genius Casting From 8 Years Ago Is Brilliantly Strengthened By Divisive New Horror Movie
Image
Joe Chrest plays similar oblivious parental figures in both Stranger Things and Lisa Frankenstein. Both Ted Wheeler and Dale are clueless about the dangerous situations their kids are in. Chrest's casting in Lisa Frankenstein, set in the 1980s like Stranger Things, further strengthens his role.

It's no secret that Stranger Things features some of the best casting in Hollywood as of late, but one under-the-radar actor appears in a 2024 horror film, and his character is almost the same as his role in the Netflix television show. The science fiction horror drama series, created by the Duffer Brothers, premiered in July 2016 and was an instant hit that soon turned into a cultural phenomenon. Stranger Things's overwhelming positive reviews following its first season praised the show's nostalgia and homages to 1980s movies, complex and wildly entertaining story, and, of course, the cast's performances.

In particular, many were amazed by the skills...

‘Stranger Things’ Play ‘The First Shadow’ Tells the Origin Story of the Upside Down, Creators Explain (Video)
Image
While much time still stands before the conclusion to the Duffer Brothers’ “Stranger Things” Netflix series, with Season 5 awaiting a deal for its actors, the prequel play — “Stranger Things: The First Shadow” — will give audiences a glimpse further into the past and the origins of the Upside Down.

Set in 1959 Hawkins, the play will focus on the arrival of Henry Creel to “a regular town with regular worries.” Teenage Jim Hopper, Bob Newby and Joyce Maldonado also star, as does a younger Dr. Martin Brenner (Patrick Vaill), who began the cruel experiments on Young Henry.

As with any new iteration of “Stranger Things,” there’s a new crucial character — this time, it’s Patty Newby (Ella Karuna Williams). There is also a Principal Newby (Matthew Pigeon), but that figure is of less importance to the plot.

“The main thrust of the story is Patty and her little budding romance with Henry,...

London’s upcoming stage production of “Stranger Things: The First Shadow” has announced its full cast, including who will play young Hopper, Joyce, Dr. Brenner and Henry Creel (who will later turn into Vecna) — characters from the show played by David Harbour, Winona Ryder, Matthew Modine and Jamie Campbell Bower, respectively.

From Netflix and Sonia Friedman Productions, “Stranger Things: The First Shadow” acts as a prequel to the Duffer Brothers’ hit series, beginning in 1959 Hawkins, Ind.

With production on the upcoming fifth and final season of “Stranger Things” paused indefinitely until the writers and actors strikes are settled, this West End stage production will have to tie fans over in the meantime.

4 Reasons Stranger Things’ Murray Is The Real Hero Of Hawkins
Image
Stranger Things' Murray Bauman is the real hero of Hawkins, and here are four reasons why. Initially introduced as a minor character in the series' second season, Murray quickly becomes a fan favorite and is promoted to the main cast by the fourth season. Murray is a conspiracy theorist who lives in a bunker-like home and deeply distrusts all institutions, especially the government. In addition, he is deeply cynical about human nature, an attitude repeatedly proven correct throughout the series. Nevertheless, he maintains a streak of optimism, and his quirky humor makes him oddly endearing.

Despite his deep distrust and general dislike of most of humanity, Murray repeatedly proves that he is willing to lend a hand for the greater good. In several dangerous situations, he displays selfless courage and loyalty to the few people who have earned his trust. These qualities, coupled with his intelligence and a surprising assortment of valuable skills,...

How to Watch ‘Where the Crawdads Sing’: Is the Adaptation Streaming?
Daisy Edgar-Jones in Là où chantent les écrevisses (2022)
“Where the Crawdads Sing” has gathered quite a list of names associated with the film adaptation of Delia Owens’ bestselling novel, which was published in 2018. Reese Witherspoon spotlighted the book as one of the earliest picks in her book club, and then her production company Hello Sunshine signed on to adapt the book for the big screen through Lucy Alibar’s screenplay.

Directed by Olivia Newman, the story weaves together several complex themes, including coming of age, survival and a murder mystery. Taylor Swift even wrote a song for the film after reading Owens’ novel because she was so inspired by the story: “Carolina,” which released June 23, echoes Owens’ naturalistic writing with a haunting melody.

Fans of the book, Reese Witherspoon, Taylor Swift and/or actress Daisy Edgar Jones may be wondering how to watch the upcoming film adaptation. We have all the details below.

Stranger Things Season 4, Part 2 Trailer Teases the End of Hawkins, Vecna's Last Stand, & More

Netflix's decision to save the final two episodes of Stranger Things Season 4 until July 1 didn't go down well with fans.

The streaming service dropped a full-length trailer for the final two episodes on Tuesday, and it looks like we're in for another A+ conclusion for the 1980s-set drama.

The mission to save Hawkins is poised to be Eleven's biggest battle to date, and after learning how she and Vecna know each other on Stranger Things Season 4 Episode 7, well, it's going to lead to some more heartbreak.

The trailer utilizes Kate Bush's "Running Up That Hill," once again to build the tension as all of these characters prepare to fight demons, both literal and physical.

One scene that sticks out from the trailer features Max caught by Vecna again, likely teasing a brutal beatdown between the pair.

We don't know whether Kate Bush's hit song will be able...

‘Stranger Things’ Joe Chrest Joins Peacock’s ‘A Friend Of The Family’ Limited Series
Image
Exclusive: Joe Chrest (Stranger Things) has been tapped for a heavily recurring role in A Friend of the Family, Peacock’s limited series from Nick Antosca and UCP.

A Friend Of the Family is based on the harrowing true story of the Broberg family, whose daughter Jan was kidnapped multiple times over a period of years by a charismatic, obsessed family “friend.” The Brobergs — devoted to their faith, family, and community — were utterly unprepared for the sophisticated tactics their neighbor used to exploit their vulnerabilities, drive them apart, and turn their daughter against them. This is the story of how their lives were permanently altered — and how they survived.

Chrest will play Bishop Matthew Paulsen, a local bishop in Pocatello, ID. He is an important authority figure in the Brobergs’ life and plays a powerful role in the community. He believes in protecting members of his congregation and will make...

‘Stranger Things 4’ Broke Netflix’s 28-Day U.S. Viewership Record in Just 17 Days
Winona Ryder, David Harbour, Natalia Dyer, Caleb McLaughlin, Millie Bobby Brown, Finn Wolfhard, Charlie Heaton, Noah Schnapp, and Gaten Matarazzo in Stranger Things (2016)
“Stranger Things 4” viewership has been so strong it’s spooky. The fourth season of Eleven & friends’ sci-fi exploits just broke the “Bridgerton” Season 2 record for most hours viewed within a show’s first 28 days and it only needed 17 days to do it. Through those two-and-a-half weeks, “Stranger Things” Season 4 amassed 781.04 million hours viewed, according to Netflix’s own internal tally. (“Stranger Things 4” added another 159.24 million hours this past week.)

Not only did “Stranger Things” Season 4 not require the full four weeks to shatter the previously-held English-language TV record, it also didn’t need its final two supersized episodes to do it. Those, which include the nearly two-and-a-half-hour season finale, drop July 1; the first seven episodes of the penultimate season landed on Netflix May 27.

Last week, “Stranger Things 4” ranked third all-time (with 621.80 million hours viewed) on Netflix’s Most Popular TV (English) list, behind Season 1 of Shonda Rhimes’ “Bridgerton” (625.49 million) and...

Stranger Things: Netflix Shares First Look at Final Episodes of Season 4!
Winona Ryder, David Harbour, Natalia Dyer, Caleb McLaughlin, Millie Bobby Brown, Finn Wolfhard, Charlie Heaton, Noah Schnapp, and Gaten Matarazzo in Stranger Things (2016)
The end is nigh for the residents of Hawkins.

Netflix on Tuesday unveiled photos for the final two episodes of Stranger Things Season 4.

These episodes are set to drop on the streaming service around the globe on Friday, July 1, and will prepare fans for the final season of the sci-fi drama.

We see Eleven and Benner in one of the photos, presumably in the aftermath of her failed escape from the bunker.

Eleven finally knows the truth about what happened in the lead-up to the Hawkins Laboratory Massacre, something that will stick with her as she embarks on her journey.

The youngster's journey has been about getting answers to the blanks in her memory, coming to terms with her powers, and saving her friends.

Given where we left the rest of the characters on Stranger Things Season 4 Episode 7, we're in for a lot of drama.

Many of the characters are trapped in the Upside Down,...

Proud Boy Brawler Tiny Toese Finally Faces Charges for Portland Rampage
Image
Proud Boy brawler Tusitala “Tiny” Toese has been extradited to Oregon to face 11 charges stemming from a street battle with Antifa counterprotesters in Portland last August.

Toese was arrested — and had been jailed in Washington state since January — on charges of unlawfully breaching the grounds of the Washington governor’s mansion and assaulting an officer on Jan. 6 2021, in an echo of the violence at the U.S. Capitol. While those charges are still pending, Toese was moved to Oregon Tuesday and arraigned Wednesday on multiple counts of assault, riot, unlawful use of a weapon,...

Justice Department Slams Portland Police for Unconstitutional Abuses
Image
Portland — The Department of Justice has delivered a striking rebuke of the Portland Police Bureau for its brutal policing of last year’s racial justice protests, calling out the police for violations of bureau policy and the U.S. constitution, while criticizing a leadership structure that “lacks critical self-assessment” and broadly views “all force as justified.”

In the aftermath of the George Floyd murderer by Minneapolis policeman Derek Chauvin last May, Portland erupted in a months-long streak of nightly protest demanding racial justice and police accountability. (Portland protests also made...

Death at a Portland Protest: What You Need to Know
Image
Portland — A “Trump 2020 Cruise Rally,” comprised of hundreds of flag-waving pro-Trump pickup truck drivers, detoured into downtown Portland, Oregon, on Saturday night, setting off clashes between right- and left-wing protesters. Events turned deadly when a supporter of the far-right-wing group Patriot Prayer was shot and killed. Police have yet to formally identify either the victim or any leads on the shooter, but local media have surfaced the name of a suspect first identified by 4chan.

Here’s what you need to know.

What Preceded the Violence?

President Donald Trump Tweetstorm – The Sunday Edition
Image
President Donald Trump unleashed a Category 5 tweetstorm today, tweeting and retweeting more than 80 messages in his regular Sunday communications.

The Commander-in-Tweet focused on the continuing chaos in Portland, Oregon in his early messages, chiding that city’s Mayor Ted Wheeler for refusing to allow federal intervention to quell the disturbances. Wheeler’s condo complex has since been taken over by left-wing protesters who wish to oust him, and ongoing street clashes resulted in the death of a man on Saturday night.

Trump also touted his rising poll numbers after the Republican National Convention, and threatened Washington, DC Mayor Muriel Bowser to clean up that city’s massive wave of protests or accept the National Guard to do so.

We’ll have more communications as they come in. The tweetstorm so far:

Rushing him out of basement after seeing some very disturbing numbers. Don’t worry, he’ll go back to basement soon!

‘Last Week Tonight’: John Oliver Slams Trump’s “Great Job” Of Sending Federal Agents To Portland Protests
Image
John Oliver was excited to show off his brand new glass desk on Last Week Tonight before he went on to put the Trump administration on blast for its handling of the protests in Portland that have been happening for the past two months since George Floyd’s death.

The protests in Portland have prompted the deployment of federal agents. As a result, there has been video footage of camouflaged agents arresting protestors and putting them in unmarked cars. One news report shows a Navy veteran who was beaten and pepper-sprayed by agents after he attempted to have a civil conversation with them.

“That is intense and frankly, says so much about this country right now,” said Oliver. “CNN will show federal agents treating a human being like a pinata and censor the same man for rightfully telling those agents to f*ck the f*ck off.”

Oliver points out...

How Oregon Is Pushing Back Against ‘Kidnap and False Arrest’ by Trump’s Agents
Image
The state of Oregon is suing the Trump administration in federal court to halt what it likens to the “kidnap and false arrest” of protesters in downtown Portland, alleging that the administration’s secret-police tactics are violating core constitutional rights.

In a harrowing new tactic, reminiscent of fascist regimes, armed federal officers without agency badges have begun grabbing protesters off the street, throwing them into unmarked cars and jailing them without formally arresting them, according to court records. The state of Oregon is seeking a permanent injunction to prevent what...

‘I’m Not Here for Fucking Clapping.’ Scenes from a Portland Protest
Image
In downtown Portland, the graffiti splattered on the stone walls and plate glass of the federal courthouse lays bare the pain of a city not unlike Minneapolis: predominately white and liberal, yet policed by a force that is notoriously racist, and, in Portland’s case, under federal supervision for excessive use of force.

The spray paint is a rainbow of blacks and blues and pinks and purples: “Abolish Cops,” it says. “Fuck 12”; “Cops Are Terrorists”; “Acab”; “Stop Killing Black Men”.

Some Men Just Want to Watch the World Burn
In 1985, when I was a kid and the atmospheric concentrations of greenhouse gases had yet to cross climate-destabilizing thresholds, old school rappers Rock Master Scott & the Dynamic Three dropped a dope single, “The Roof Is On Fire.”

Watching the Trump administration these days, it’s hard not to think that the Epa has adopted that track’s infectious chorus as its mantra: “The roof, the roof, the roof is on fire / We don’t need no water, let the motherfucker burn / Burn mother fucker, burn!”

Case in point: The Epa...
