Does the third season of the Harlots TV show on Hulu scratch your itch? It looks like Harlots is history. Hulu has cancelled the period drama series so, there won't be a fourth season, reports THR.

Inspired by the lives of real women, Harlots stars Samantha Morton, Jessica Brown Findlay, Lesley Manville, Eloise Smyth, and Liv Tyler. Alfie Allen joined season three as the new pimp in town, Isaac Pincher, with Ash Hunter playing his brother, Hal. The story unfolds in 18th century Georgian London and centers on the Wells family, led by brothel-owning matriarch Margaret (Samantha Morton).

The third season kicked off with Margaret having been sent to America in chains, while rival Lydia Quigley (Manville) is in Bedlam. With the help of allies including Lady Fitz (Tyler) the Wells women hope to be free of their mother’s feud. Soon though, Charlotte (Brown-Findlay) realizes running the brothel cultivates enemies.

“Mock if you will,” Christian Evangelist Florence Scanwell (Dorothy Atkinson) chided the bordello workers in Hulu‘s progressive period series Harlots. “There is honor in righteous poverty.” The creative team will be finding new places of employment. Harlots has been cancelled at the streaming service, according to THR, nine months after its third season came to a close.

Based on true stories of real women, Harlots was neither clichéd nor glamorous. It depicted sex work as legitimate. The sex wasn’t gratuitous, it was perfunctory, and there is no judgment of it. The series was written, directed and produced entirely by women. Co-creators Moira Buffini (Jane Eyre) and Alison Newman were Executive Producers alongside Alison Owen, Debra Hayward and Alison Carpenter. Season 3 was written by Buffini, Jane English, Vivienne Harvey and Jessica Ruston, and directed by Robin Sheppard, Chloe Thomas and Debs Paterson, with Pat Tookey-Dickson producing.

Harlots was set in 1763 London.

Alfie Allen is ready to talk about dying on TV, but it’s not necessarily for the show he’s best known for. “It seems that a tragic death is something that is the hot topic with me nowadays,” the actor said in an interview with IndieWire.

After going out in a blaze of Night King-defying glory on the final season of “Game of Thrones,” Allen joined the cast of Hulu’s Georgian-era brothel drama “Harlots” – but not for long. The Wells family has endured many hardships on “Harlots,” but now that matriarch Margaret Wells (Samantha Morton) has escaped the hangman’s noose, the outlook seemed far less grim. Unfortunately, on Wednesday’s episode, the Wells fortunes take a turn for the worse when eldest daughter Charlotte (Jessica Brown Findlay) dies in a tragic accident.

While promoting a gala affair/boxing match with her partner Lady Fitz (Liv Tyler), Charlotte sneaks off for a tryst with local pimp and tavern owner Isaac Pincher (Alfie Allen). Upset for losing out on a business deal, his brother Hal (Ash Hunter) tracks them down to the stairwell and starts pummeling Isaac. Charlotte tries to stop the fight, but gets accidentally pitched over the balcony railing to her death below.

Alfie Allen‘s post-Game of Thrones life will be full of Harlots: The actor has joined the cast of Hulu’s 18th century-set period drama.

Allen will appear in Season 3 alongside Ash Hunter (The Secret Agent) as the Pincher brothers — Isaac and Hal, respectively — who serve as foes for the women of Soho. Allen’s character “is driven by his ambitions to achieve wealth and power,” per the official description. After returning from the Seven Years’ War, “Isaac wants to take over London. The brothers lease a tavern together, the Saracen’s Head, which serves as a front for their ever-growing pimping business.

As if things already weren’t rough enough for the women of 18th century Soho, now they have a pair of ambitious pimp brothers to contend with. Hulu said today that Alfie Allen and Ash Hunter have joined the cast of its drama series Harlots. The streamer also set a July 10 premiere date for Season 3. New episodes will bow on ensuing Wednesdays.

Set in Georgian London, Harlots continues to follow the fortunes of the Wells family. Margaret (Samantha Morton) has been sent to America in chains and Lydia Quigley (Lesley Manville) is vanquished and in Bedlam. It seems that the Wells girls can finally free themselves of their mother’s feud, helped by allies such as Lady Fitz (Liv Tyler).
