The love story between Kit Harington and Rose Leslie is almost too perfect to be believed. They met while working on the second season of HBO's mega-hit Game of Thrones: he played the brooding Night's Watchmen Jon Snow, and she the fiery wildling warrior Ygritte. As Jon and Ygritte feel in love onscreen, so did Harington and Leslie offscreen. "It was in the winter, which meant we only had four hours of daylight to shoot," Leslie told Tatler. "So we’d wrap at 2 pm and then we’d have the rest of the afternoon and the evening. Because it was in the middle of nowhere, we were all sitting together in the same hotel, so you got to know everyone, there was a real camaraderie."
Ygritte died a couple seasons later, but by then the actors were already a couple. They married in 2018 at a castle owned by Rose...

As one of the greatest modern fantasy authors, Brandon Sanderson amassed millions of fans around the world, as evident in how much he made for his best-selling novels. His most popular titles, the Mistborn series and The Stormlight Archive, are well-loved by readers. The question of the century is when the live-action adaptations happen.
For now, the author isn’t interested in giving his works away, not until he knows streaming platforms and studios are ready to adapt his books. Even the massive fame of Game of Thrones isn’t persuading Sanderson.

Sam Claflin has worked on several benchmark projects, including the Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides. However, there is one film that made Claflin a household name, and that was his 2016 tentpole, Me Before You.
Based on Jojo Moyes’s book, the film became a sensation when it was released in 2016. Perched on the crackling chemistry between the 38-year-old and Emilia Clarke, Me Before You became a box office success despite receiving mixed critical reviews.
Me Before You became quite popular among the young fans, which later inspired Netflix to acquire the Ott distribution rights of the film. However, not many years later, the streaming giant let go of the film, but let Clafin’s lower-rated film Love Wedding Repeat still stay on the platform.

This article contains spoilers for "Game of Thrones."
It's hard to believe it's been six years since the controversial series finale of HBO's "Game of Thrones." The series, based on George R.R. Martin's "A Song of Ice and Fire" fantasy novels, was widely acclaimed during its initial run, with its slew of rich, dynamic, and unforgettable characters that brought the realm of Westeros to such vivid life, as well as the masterful way it staged some of the most epic fantasy sequences ever produced on either television or film. Although the infamous final season remains subject to much scrutiny from critics and fans alike, nothing will take away the moments of true peak long-form storytelling on display during the series' highlights.

Are you looking for a show that gives off the same vibe and thrill as Game of Thrones? We know you are craving more stories set in Westeros, and while House of the Dragon is still months away, we’ve got you covered on your historical fantasy television fix!
Tons of shows emerged over the years trying to replicate the success of the hit HBO series. We cannot blame them as fans loved stories set in ancient and medieval times. To satiate that hunger, you should check out Prime Video’s Britannia.

Dragons in Game of Thrones are creatures that are impossible to domesticate. Even Daenerys Targaryen, who was able to raise three dragons and make them heed her commands, had times when she could not control them. Like human children, they are also prone to rebellion, disobedience, and even tantrums.
A dragon in a fit of temper, though, is way more dangerous than an angry child. In the case of Daenerys’ dragons, especially Drogon, it’s hard to watch after them all the time. She’s got her hands full as she needed to conquer cities, free slaves, and build armies.

We’re talking Galleons, Sickles, and more Muggle cash than you can imagine. After the Og franchise made the $9B magic happen, HBO now seems to be planning on churning a similar level of success.

One of the many questions Game of Thrones fans still have in mind is what made Daenerys so unique that she could bond with—or at least, command—three dragons, knowing a rider can only mount one at a time.
From what we’ve seen in House of the Dragon, the feral beasts are very selective of who they want to be bonded with. A Targaryen can claim one, but it’s the dragon who chooses its rider.

Some of you are still waiting for George R.R. Martin to release The Winds of Winter, and some of you are hoping it’s worth the wait. Well, the only thing that could make the 13-year wait worthwhile is when the author gives us the shock of our lives: Daenerys becoming the Night Queen.
This isn’t a far-fetched idea and totally not impossible to happen. In fact, the Night Queen theory has been around for years, and since the books leave a lot to possibilities, we may as well get a satisfying conclusion to the A Song of Ice and Fire saga.

Emilia Clarke’s Daenerys Targaryen left Game of Thrones on a tragic note. Her death signaled the end of an era, a lineage, and a once-promising vision.

Game of Thrones may have concluded almost six years ago, but it remains a popular and divisive series. The fantasy drama took the world by storm with its approach to storytelling and delivered some epic battle scenes that are still arguably some of the best on television.
However, one of the show’s best battle scenes was preceded by arguably an extremely cringeworthy moment. During the Battle of the Bastards, Jon Snow charged into battle, leading to a heroic moment that was very uncharacteristic of him. As a result, even after years, the scene feels cringeworthy and here is why.
Game of Thrones‘ best battle scene pushed Jon Snow into full cringe mode
When Game of Thrones returned for its sixth season, it was arguably at the peak of its popularity. However, the series treaded into uncharted territory with its sixth installment after exhausting the source material penned by author George R. R. Martin.

If there’s one role that single-handedly propelled Emilia Clarke to stardom, it’s Daenerys Targaryen. Landing the iconic role and playing the character for eight seasons may have felt like a stroke of luck, and even though she knew what a big responsibility she had on her back, it was still work and an obligation.
Doing the same job for almost a decade and being on set with the same people for years did not feel like a huge thing for Clarke until the show was done. She only realized what a massive thing she had achieved after moving away from the franchise after several years.

The tension between the Blacks and the Greens ensues as House of the Dragon prepares for one of the most brutal battles in Westeros. Rhaenyra Targaryen’s team has been working double time to make allies and fortify her claim to the Iron Throne. At the same time, Aegon II Targaryen’s squad has secured the Triarchy’s fleet of naval firepower.
Amid the brewing storm is a friendship that keeps on trying to mend itself through secret meetings. We’ve seen it happen at the Grand Sept and then in the final episode, when Alicent Hightower was willing to give up her son. If you were a struggling actor in the U.K. in the early 2010s, odds are you probably auditioned for "Game of Thrones." Set in the epic world created by George R.R. Martin and considered one of the best fantasy shows of all time, the series showcased an expansive roster of widely beloved (and horribly loathsome) characters. That cast included all-time greats of British film and theater, like Sean Bean and Charles Dance, as well as future stars like Emilia Clarke and Kit Harington.
However, as with any popular show, many actors auditioned or were offered parts that never materialized, or perhaps not in the way they had anticipated. From future A-listers who HBO unbelievably rejected to big names the show wasn't able to convince to be a part of the pop culture phenomenon, these are 15 actors who were almost cast on "Game of Thrones," but thankfully, for the actors...

Remember how we had to wait three years between season 1 and 2 of "Severance," and everybody panicked? For that matter, remember when nearly two years passed between season 1 and season 2 of "House of the Dragon" and even that felt torturous? Emilia Clarke has put so much of herself into Daenerys Targaryen after portraying the Game of Thrones character for eight seasons. She was not only a fictional character for the actress but also an inspiration that helped her cope with her troubles.

Before David Benioff and D.B. Weiss could get their "Game of Thrones" adaptation greenlit, they had to prove themselves to the books' author, George R.R. Martin. After all, they were asking for a lot in 2005 when they first pitched Martin their idea for a "Game of Thrones" TV show; by that point, the pair had little on their resumes indicating they could handle overseeing a decade-spanning HBO fantasy drama. The most high-profile achievement between the two at that stage was Benioff writing the screenplay for the 2004 Brad Pitt vehicle "Troy."
Be that as it may, Benioff and Weiss had two things working in their favor when they spoke with Martin. The first was that they were clearly genuine fans of the original novels, and the second was that they had figured out the answer to one of the books' biggest mysteries. As Weiss explained in a 2015 interview with Variety:

Before House of the Dragon had us side-eyeing family trees and counting dragon eggs, there was A Song of Ice and Fire—the sprawling, bloody, and brilliantly messy fantasy epic that started it all. Written by George R. R. Martin (a.k.a. the man who made readers fear weddings forever), the book series redefined what modern fantasy could look like. No elves, no chosen ones, just power plays, morally grey characters, and a world where literally no one is safe.

The backlash on the season finale of Game of Thrones was perhaps one of the biggest phenomena in the world of television. Everyone tuned in to the show only to feel betrayed and disappointed by how things went down—either with the death of Daenerys Targaryen or Bran Stark becoming king, no one ever said they were happy.
George R.R. Martin was well aware of this strong reaction from fans, people who had been loyal viewers and supporters of his books. For the author, it did not bother him if these members of the audience would not watch any more projects from the Game of Thrones franchise.

Jason Momoa may have only lasted one season on Game of Thrones as the fearsome Khal Drogo, but he made that one season count. And post-Westeros? He went full beast mode.

Every performer has hit a roadblock at some point in their career. There are many popular actors who bombed auditions for iconic roles and cringed as they recalled the stories later on. Spare a thought for someone like Nicholas Hoult who read for both Batman and Superman but didn't get either gig -- he ended up as Lex Luthor, though, so don't bring out the tissues for him just yet.
As fans, it's fun to look back at these casting stories, wondering what might have been had these performers secured coveted parts. Sure, some might have rocked the roles, while others would not have been right fits at all. No shade intended, but sometimes life happens for a very good reason. It's okay, because none of the actors mentioned below saw their careers end after bad auditions. Quite the opposite, really, as they all went on to achieve success in their craft.

Emilia Clarke on Got’s infamous coffee incident(Photo Credit –Facebook)
It was one of the most bizarre and strangely hilarious moments in TV history. A show known for its epic fantasy world, elaborate costumes, and meticulous production let a modern-day coffee cup slip into the final cut. We’re talking about Game of Thrones and its infamous Season 8 coffee cup moment that broke the internet.
Back in 2019, just as fans were soaking in the final season of the HBO fantasy drama series, eagle-eyed viewers spotted something wildly out of place in episode 4: a Starbucks-style cup sitting right in front of Daenerys Targaryen during a feast scene in Winterfell. It was a momentary slip in the otherwise impeccable world of Westeros. And now, years later, we finally have the truth as revealed by the show’s leading cast, Emilia Clarke as to who was responsible for the modern...

In an era where many shows bend to audience demand or studio pressure, The Sopranos stood out for doing the exact opposite. Its creator, David Chase, built a legacy not just through compelling storytelling, but by holding onto a creative principle most showrunners wouldn’t dare flirt with. The idea that this could all end tomorrow. It wasn’t just a mindset; it was a safeguard against compromise.
Instead of chasing approval or diluting the show’s tone for broader appeal, Chase doubled down on the integrity of the narrative. The moment The Sopranos started gaining massive popularity, he realized the real threat wasn’t cancellation, it was the temptation to cater. And that, in his view, would be the beginning of the end.
David Chase refused to pander
For David Chase, success brought a strange kind of clarity. He knew the bigger The Sopranos got, the easier it would be to start pandering.

The mastermind behind the iconic drama Game of Thrones, George R.R. Martin, has established himself as a genius for creating characters that stick with us, especially the villains. While most of the shows present a one-dimensional “bad guy” to hate, Martin’s villains are anything but cardboard cutouts. He doesn’t just create them; he breathes life into them which leaves a lasting impression on the fans.
Take King Joffrey from Game of Thrones, every scene of his feels like a slow burn of deliciously twisted evil, and we can’t help but feel a strange sense of satisfaction (sometimes an eerie laugh) when he gets his nemesis. Then there’s Cersei, worst of them all, a woman whose manipulation and ambition know no bounds, and let’s not forget the pure evil that is Ramsay Bolton.

George R.R. Martin has been hailed as one of the finest authors that this generation has ever seen. Known for creating the A Song of Ice and Fire saga, the author has found worldwide fame and critical acclaim for his iconic novels.
However, George R.R. Martin does tend to rub J.R.R. Tolkien fans the wrong way quite often! The author compared the battle scenes from his novels, Bernard Cornwell (the author of The Saxon Stories), and J.R.R. Tolkien. As you might have guessed, we all knew who the winner was going to be during the conversation.

“How the mighty have fallen,” is what I used to say about Marvel Studios and the way they handled the Marvel Cinematic Universe after Avengers: Endgame. Fans doubted Kevin Feige and questioned his abilities, while the world saw every Marvel project fail one after the other.
However, it seems that it wasn’t Kevin Feige’s fault at all. The Marvel President was thinking about the future of the MCU and the big things they had in store. However, this led to a phase where Feige wasn’t able to provide feedback on the current projects. As a result, the MCU was quite different after Endgame since Feige was all about the future.

Stars Who Almost Made It To Game Of Thrones ( Photo Credit – Instagram )
Game of Thrones has become so iconic that it’s nearly impossible to picture it with any other actors than the ones we know and love. Emilia Clarke’s fiery Daenerys and Lena Headey’s cold-as-ice Cersei are ingrained in our minds, but the casting process was far from straightforward. Before the show became the global sensation we know, several Hollywood A-listers nearly joined the cast, some even auditioning for key roles that would eventually make history.
Imagine a world where Mahershala Ali almost played a Qarthian merchant or Sam Heughan wasn’t swinging a sword in Outlander but instead vying for a role in Westeros! While many could have fit in seamlessly, others missed their shot, leaving us to wonder, what could have been? Let’s look at these 10 actors who almost made it into the world of Game of Thrones.

Emilia Clarke has done a lot of wonders throughout the nearly two decades that she has been active as an actress in the entertainment industry, amusing fans worldwide with more than just her acting. While her performances are ones to gain tremendous attention, she is even more famous for all the outstanding roles she has donned and broken a leg in.
This includes her work for the Game of Thrones saga as well, where she had to do something as iconic and mind-baffling as battling dragons — something only possible in the fantasy world, but potential nonetheless. But while she managed to survive that world, she seems to have failed at doing the same while working with Arnold Schwarzenegger on their action flick, as she inevitably couldn’t survive his breakdancing!

It’s not a surprise if no one has ever heard about Emilia Clarke starring in the 2019 crime thriller movie Above Suspicion, directed by Phillip Noyce. Perhaps, to this day, only a handful have seen it. Well, it’s nothing like her role in Game of Thrones, but it’s still dark, gritty, and quite depressing.
Based on Joe Sharkey’s non-fiction book about the killing of Susan Smith, Above Suspicion tells the harrowing experiences of a drug addict woman who became an FBI informant after meeting a rookie agent. Her affair with the criminologist would lead to a downward spiral of betrayal, violence, and death.

Emilia Clarke played Daenerys Targaryen in Game of Thrones for eight seasons, and if there’s anything she regrets the most, it’s not how her character’s arc went downhill or why she turned into an evil queen. It’s the fact that she left the show empty-handed.
As one of the most popular fantasy franchises, the set was filled with several props and items considered collectibles. Any fan would surely want a dragon egg or a dagger from the show to display in their room, but Clarke failed to take anything from the production.

When you watch the Game of Thrones… you stay obsessed. If you’re still salty about Bran the Broken ruling the Seven Kingdoms—same, my friend. Game of Thrones didn’t just steal our hearts; it stabbed them like Arya in a faceless frenzy. Season 8? A betrayal worthy of the Night’s Watch. But even with its chaos and controversy, Thrones remains the wildfire of modern TV—unpredictable, addictive, and utterly iconic.
Every Sunday felt like a battle cry, a call to arms, a new twist at King’s Landing. And while we hope House of the Dragon brings balance to the realms, Game of Thrones still reigns as a cultural juggernaut. The real power move? It wasn’t Ned’s fall, Dany’s dragons, or even that cursed wedding.

Did Jason Momoa refuse to talk about a violent Game Of Thrones Scene? ( Photo Credit – Wikimedia )
When The New York Times asked him about that violent Game of Thrones scene, he said it left “a bad feeling in my stomach.” The actor, who once played the fearsome Khal Drogo, got visibly uncomfortable when pressed about the show’s use of sexual violence. “I was bummed when you asked me that,” he told interviewer David Marchese. “It just feels icky—putting it upon me to remove something.”
The moment came during a sit-down interview marking the 10-year anniversary of Game of Thrones. Marchese raised a fair question, considering the show’s long history of criticism for its treatment of women. He asked, “Do you think differently today about those scenes? Would you do one now? Do you have any regrets?”

Did you know that the mind behind Westeros also fanboys over the Marvel multiverse? Fantasy titans rarely cross paths, so it’s oddly comforting to learn that the author whose books were adapted into Game of Thrones is a full-blown Marvel nerd.
He’s known for creating a world that’s brimming with dragons, prophecies, and betrayal. So to see him gush about the characters in the renowned comics and the MCU, especially Charlize Theron’s Clea, felt surprisingly wholesome.

It’s not a secret anymore that we’re getting a handful of prequels thanks to the popularity of Game of Thrones and the success of House of the Dragon (even if it’s debatable). This year, HBO is bringing a new epic based on George R.R. Martin’s novella, Tales of Dunk and Egg. While fans were looking forward to more stories based in Westeros, the author was surprisingly caught off guard by the studio’s decision.
It takes a lot of risk and courage to attempt to replicate the global phenomenon of Game of Thrones, but somehow, the latest prequel series managed to take the world by storm. With this, HBO must be very confident enough to greenlight more spinoffs.

It's been a while since "Game of Thrones" finished its divisive final season, and even longer since the on-screen deaths of some of the show's most beloved characters. While the HBO franchise has continued with "House of the Dragon," a prequel series exploring the Targaryen dynasty, many of the show's stars have scattered across the worlds of film and TV, and even beyond.
While some "Game of Thrones" alumni have made notable appearances in some of the biggest movies and TV shows of the past few years, others have done a lot less mainstream work in the years since the finale aired. For some, "Game of Thrones" may have just been the start of their careers, whilst others merely added the show to a long and storied filmography. There are even some supporting characters on "Game of Thrones" who had their turns as leading men and women in their most recent projects.

The first season of Game of Thrones opened with an explicit scene that occurred during Daenerys Targaryen and Khal Drogo’s wedding night. For those who haven’t read the books, for sure you have no idea that it shouldn’t be an assault scene. George R.R. Martin was dissatisfied with the show’s take because it was supposed to be a consensual act.
Television is quite fast-paced, and we know it does not have all the time in the world to rummage through a character’s mind. That’s what novels are for, and I’ve come to realize that the showrunners did the best they could to fit the story accordingly for the screen.

Fans got to know some fascinating characters throughout the eight-season run of Game of Thrones. They had terrific character development and their arcs were satisfying from start to finish. Then there were others who should have been much bigger and better than they were hyped up to be, making them some of the most overrated characters of the series.
Yes, some of these characters were even main characters for all eight seasons. By the end of the show, it’s hard to understand why we rooted for them so much, or even why the series continued to focus on them when their storylines ended up meaning so little. Follow us into the world of potentially unpopular opinions as we look at the most overrated characters from Game of Thrones.

It's not a particularly unpopular opinion to say that "Game of Thrones" didn't have the best ending (though I'll say that some people right here at /Film might disagree with me). The series, which is based on George R.R. Martin's novel series "A Song of Ice and Fire," came to a close after eight seasons in May of 2019 not with a bang, but with a piteous whimper. So, do showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss have any regrets? Yes, apparently — but their regrets aren't related to the series finale "The Iron Throne" at all!
In a January 2024 story for The Hollywood Reporter, Benioff and Weiss said they had one major shared regret: that Mord the Jailer, a small character seen in the show's first season who was played by Ciaran Bermingham, never returned. After blessing our television screens for eight years with an incredible performance as the Mother of Dragons, it's understandable that Emilia Clarke, aka Daenerys Targaryen, would've wanted something to remember her time on one of the best HBO shows of all time. Something perhaps more important than, say, a misplaced Starbucks coffee cup. Unfortunately, the actress herself admitted that even after all that time travelling across the Seven Kingdoms, she left with absolutely nothing.
During an Actors on Actors interview with Regina Hall for Variety following the end of the show, Clarke confessed, "I didn't take anything, and I deeply regret it, and I'm very annoyed. I'm really hoping that the showrunners give me a dragon. I need my smelly socks. I think I did take those."

House of the Dragon returned us to Westeros after a controversial ending brought the curtain down on Game of Thrones Season 8 and the reign of Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke). However, the way Season 2 of the prequel series ended left a decent section of its fanbase demanding more. As many expected to see the famous Battle of the Gullet play out before the season bade farewell. The show's coming season will bring the famed naval battle on-screen in all its brutish glory. Abubakar Salim, who plays Alyn of Hull, one of the bastard sons of Lord Corlys Velaryon (Steve Toussaint), took to social media to offer the first look at the battle to come. Salim's post is simple and captures a close-up of a well-crafted armor from House Velaryon with the sigil of Lord Corlys, a silver seahorse, emblazoned on the breastplate.

Game of Thrones. A series that not only hates its audience but also a series where even the creators hate their own series. Sorry, that was a bit harsh, but it does seem that what was once a magnum opus of television shows fell mightily to the Earth.
From convoluted loopholes to storylines that were abandoned mid-way for no reason, that was what was happening in Seasons 7 and 8 of Game of Thrones. Despite being turned into the ruthless dictator of a crumbled King’s Landing, Daenerys Targaryen deserved better.

Based on the books of veteran author George R. R. Martin, Game of Thrones debuted with critical acclaim, great ratings, and was on its way to becoming a global cultural phenomenon. However, as time went by and sources dried up, the show’s decline in quality started.
Emilia Clarke’s Daenerys Targaryen turned...

Game of Thrones pulled off a legitimate gaslight job with one of its so-called “fan-favorite” characters. We were all practically told to cheer, clap, and meme the moment even though this character cold-bloodedly murdered two of their own family members in the same damn episode. And somehow, folks, we just rolled with it.
Looking back, it’s crazy how the show dressed it up as a “power move” and not the straight-up family massacre it was. Call it prestige TV magic, but it doesn’t change the fact that we were lowkey manipulated into rooting for someone who clearly crossed a very messed-up line.

Game of Thrones made us cheer for Daenerys Targaryen right after she pillow-mercy’d her husband and let a vengeful witch cook her unborn baby.

There had been a number of recasts in Game of Thrones that many fans weren’t aware of, but Ed Skrein’s departure from the show as Daario Naharis was pretty obvious. The actor, who rose to fame for his role as Ajax in Deadpool, was unceremoniously cut from the series and replaced by another actor in the next season.
The character made his debut in the third saga, and fans loved his portrayal. Unfortunately, the actor was not able to experience the entirety of his role as he was slated to become an advisor and lover of Daenerys Targaryen in the next few episodes.
Ed Skrein reveals honest answer on his Game of Thrones departure
Ed Skrein’s exit from Game of Thrones was initially reported as a scheduling conflict due to his commitment to 2015’s The Transporter Refueled, the reboot of Jason Statham’s action franchise. As this...

It's been years since "Game of Thrones" ended, bringing the HBO series' tight grip on pop culture to a close (if only temporarily). The show took TV by storm in the 2010s, with characters like Daenerys Targaryen, Jon Snow, and Tyrion Lannister becoming household names. However, it owed a lot to the books it was based on, "A Song of Ice & Fire" by George R. R. Martin.
Although the television series was predated by five books, the show quickly moved past where they left off, resulting in a second half of the series that is divisive amongst fans. Some speculate that every main character's ending in "Game of Thrones" is reminiscent of how they'll end up on the page, but the show still took drastic creative liberties along the way, from cutting integral characters to simplifying Martin's overcomplicated plots.

Blake Lively is a hot topic of news now after making it to Time’s Most Influential People list amid her ongoing lawsuit against Justin Baldoni. Megyn Kelly, who was also there at the Time 100 gala, brutally bashed Lively for her allegedly “fake” accusations against Baldoni.
The American journalist and political commentator previously sided with Justin Baldoni when she analyzed a dance sequence from It Ends With Us and found no signs of misconduct from Justin Baldoni. This time, Megyn Kelly has openly called out Blake Lively’s inclusion in Time’s list as a silly joke.
