The Ova will release on Blu-ray and DVD on April 1 and provide more than one kind of relief since a portion of the proceeds will now go to Noto earthquake recovery, according to the latest press release . Kuso Miso Technique -- an '80s manga story that gained notoriety as a popular meme in the early 2000s -- has set the release date for a real anime adaptation.

The official X (formerly Twitter) account for Kuso Miso Technique recently confirmed that the anime would premiere next year. The post also features the project's first key visual from illustrator Yumeko Kiraiyama. Created by Junichi Yamakawa, Kuso Miso Technique is an infamous bara (gay) hentai manga that chronicles a bizarre sexual experience between two men in a restroom. Although the anime originally began as an April Fool's Joke in 2023, an actual crowdfunding campaign opened for the project last year. The episode, which will present an all-ages version of the story, is now scheduled to premiere on Apr. 1, 2024.

Specialty distributor Niu Vision Media has acquired North American rights to the film and lined up a limited release March 17 in 150 theaters across the U.S. and Canada. Niu Vision picked up Full River Red from Bill Kong’s Edko Films, which is handling worldwide sales on the film and will continue offering it to buyers in select territories at next week’s Filmart industry confab in Hong Kong.

Working at a Soderberghian clip, Chinese director Zhang Yimou’s latest epic, Full River Red, arrived in Chinese theaters at the start of the year where it quickly became the number one grosser of the year. Recently supplanting Avengers: Endgame as the seventh highest-grossing film in China of all time, it’s now thankfully getting a North American release much sooner than expected.

Bill Kong, Asia’s leading film producer, has turned quietly optimistic about the prospects for Chinese cinema. The sales and distribution arm of his Hong Kong-based Edko Films has picked up international sales rights to “Full River Red,” the Chinese film that’s the world’s highest grossing movie with a 2023 release.

The Chinese film industry had a torrid time in 2022, seeing box office plunge to 11-year lows, censorship and bureaucracy take an additional toll, and only a handful of mainland films make it to overseas festivals.

Now, selected distributors in Berlin could be in for a treat.

Park Chan-wook’s stylish crime drama Decision to Leave leads the nominations for this year’s Asian Film Awards with a sweeping 10 nods, including Best Director and Best Film.

The film’s impressive nominations haul also includes a Best Screenplay nod and acting nominations for leads Park Hae-il and Tang Wei, as well as below-the-line recognition for Cinematography, Editing, Music, and Production Design.

Decision to Leave follows a detective (Park Hae-il) investigating a man’s death in the mountains when he meets the dead man’s mysterious wife, a suspect in the case, and begins a tangled affair. Yimou's latest is a historical epic thrilelr titled Full River Red, which seems to be a commentary on Communism and China. The title of his latest film comes from a poem about Yue Fei, "a military general during the Southern Song Dynasty (1127-1279), well-known for his patriotism and loyalty to his country, who was framed and executed by Prime Minister Qin Hui, one of the most treacherous officials in China's history." Odense (Denmark), Oct 17 (Ians) Leading Indian shuttlers Lakshya Sen, Kidambi Srikanth, H.S Prannoy, and Saina Nehwal will spearhead the country’s Indian challenge in the Bwf Denmark Open 2022 to be held from October 18 to 23 at the Jyske Bank Arena in Odense, Denmark.

In the men’s singles, World No.8 Lakshya Sen is the highest-ranked Indian and will start his campaign against World No.6 and Olympic medallist Anthony Sinisuka Ginting of Indonesia in the first round.

After performing solidly at home, China’s latest nationalistic blockbuster, Home Coming, is heading out into the world.

The film topped China’s National Day holiday box office last weekend with a 60 million debut. It has since climbed to 117 million, with local ticketing service Maoyan projecting a finishing total of around 240 million.

Building on the domestic success, Beijing-based distributor Cmc Pictures has set the film for a North American limited release on Oct. 21, followed by the U.K., Ireland, Australia and New Zealand on Oct. 27, and Singapore, Hong Kong, Macau, Pakistan, Netherlands, Belgium and Luxembourg on Oct. 28.

Home Coming is directed by newcomer Rao Xiaozhi but produced by Frank Guo, the filmmaker behind China’s record-earning sci-fi hit The Wandering Earth (700 million in 2019). The film has racked up strong social scores in China, earning a 9.6 rating from Maoyan and 7.6 from reviews site Douban.

China’s latest propagandistic action movie — Home Coming, directed by Rao Xiaozhi — easily won the country’s National Day holiday box office race with a 59.3 million performance, according to box office data analyst Artisan Gateway. But overall sales during the weekend were a fraction of the usual level, as a grinding slowdown in consumer activity continues to weigh on the film business.

Produced by Huace Pictures, Home Coming accounted for a strong 67 percent share of all ticket revenue for the weekend as other new releases underperformed. Grief and pain go to the bone in the Chinese director’s simple, beautifully shot tale about an escaped prisoner and an orphan

In 2019, this film from Chinese director Zhang Yimou was pulled from the Berlin film festival because of, ahem, technical problems. The real reason, widely speculated at the time, was likely to have been politically motivated: the Chinese Communist party’s displeasure with the film’s portrait of the Cultural Revolution. Now, re-edited and partially reshot, it’s finally getting a release. And with all the tinkering and tweaks, what censors haven’t been able to expunge is the torment and suffering on the face of Zhang Yi’s political prisoner; this is a deeply felt film, grief and pain go to the bone.

Zhang Yimou has described One Second as a “love letter to cinema” and his story revolves around a mobile cinema touring Chinese villages in the early 1970s.

San Sebastian International Film Festival has unveiled its final 2021 competition titles, with new addition One Second, directed by Zhang Yimou, set to open the event.

Starring Wei Fan and Yi Zhang, the Chinese period drama follows a prisoner who escapes from a labour camp at the height of the Cultural Revolution. The film was pulled from the Berlinale in 2019 due to “technical reasons”.

A not so common script

The film starts with a kindergarten teacher escorting a bunch of ragtag children in a restaurant, where she orders a single bowl of food for all of them to share. A few moments later, some thugs try to rob the establishment, only to experience a humiliating beating in the hands of a peculiar individual named Ma Feng.

After that scene, the film changes setting and places the story in Pucheng, a small town that has sent its army to the front and is virtually unguarded, with the only ones that can fight being the local sheriff, Yeung Hak-nan and his team. The aforementioned children and Ma Feng also arrive at the same place, a little before Cao Shaolun, the son of the most notorious warlord of the era (1914).
