Creator commotion
After YouTube’s latest firearm video crackdown, some creators have had enough. At least four channels in YouTube’s firearms community have announced moves to new platforms in response to a crackdown on machine gun videos and sponsored clips that market guns. This isn’t the first time YouTube has found itself at odds with firearms enthusiasts. Maybe this time, the aggrieved creators will take my advice and move to Pornhub.

Donut Media, the cars-are-for-everyone digital content company driving more than 40 million views a month on YouTube, has snagged its first retail partner: Zumiez.
The skateboarding/lifestyle shop will stock Donut merch in all its United States and Canada brick-and-mortar locations, plus 30 locations of Blue Tomato, a European subsidary Zumiez acquired for $75 million in 2012. It’s also stocking everything in its digital storefront.
“Donut’s mission has always been to give car enthusiasts new ways to express who they are and what they love,” James Pumphrey, Donut’s editor-in-chief, said in a statement. “We strive to make the car community a welcoming place for anyone who’s passionate about our silly hobby no matter who they are. Clothes are basically car parts for your body and apparel has been a big part of what we do since the beginning. We all grew up shopping at Zumiez and are beyond stoked to...

Dirt 5 foregoes nearly all of the formalities of rally racing for a full-on arcade experience, and a damn good one at that. The racing game has much more in common with Codemasters Cheshire’s previous racer, the criminally underrated Onrush, than other games in the series. Instead of racing against the clock on rally stages, most races have you take on 11 other drivers in circuit or point-to-point races featuring plenty of drifting, crashing, and high-flying jumps.
The star of the game is the branching five-chapter, 130-event career mode, which, along with the previously mentioned races, features a handful of time trials over tough terrain and gymkhana events where the key to getting a high score is big air and long drifts. All of this is accompanied by a surprisingly good story told in a series of podcasts between races hosted by entertaining real-life podcasters James Pumphrey and Nolan Sykes. They...

Like many other car-focused channels on YouTube, Donut Media’s has no shortage of gorgeous cars. The company, which revealed earlier this year that its channel pulled in a seven-figure revenue in 2016, then doubled those earnings in 2017, regularly uploads videos populated with supercharged racecars, handfuls of sleek Lamborghinis, the raw muscle of vintage hot rods, and much, much more.
But the team behind Donut Media — including co-founder and CEO Matt Levin, a former product head at AwesomenessTV, creative director Jesse Wood, and one of the channel’s hosts as well as its head writer, James Pumphrey — also has a mission many other channels don’t: providing a thorough education about cars, inside and out, for anyone and everyone who wants to enjoy them. And that mission is what’s garnered Donut a dedicated audience, crowning the company a YouTube Millionaire in just two years.

In Donut Media's new series, guest stars are revving their engines. The media company, known for its automotive content, is behind Hot Lap, which sees amateur racers compete for the chance to earn an Applebee's gift card.
Each installment of Hot Lap begins with the introduction of a guest, who spends the first part of the episode answer questions about their career while being driven around in a van. After receiving some racing instruction from the guys behind the Donut Media web series Frenemies, the guests must then turn in their own timed laps around a twisty course. At the end of the season, the competitor who ends up with the fastest lap time will win a $500 Applebee's gift card. That's a lot of $1 Long Island iced teas.
The first guest to appear on Hot Lap is Nate Contreras aka Tabasko Sweet, who hosts the web series Cheap Thrills for Super Deluxe.

When car-focused producer Donut Media announced an $800,000 seed round back in May, it revealed its intention to launch Donut Originals, a platform for automotive content. Three months later, one of the startup’s biggest programming initiatives so far has gone live. Donut’s first web series is titled Up To Speed, and it features histories of well-known cars.
Donut has produced plenty of videos since its 2015 launch -- its most popular clips have titles like “Two Grannies, One Lamborghini” and “Fast Driver, Slow Car vs Slow Driver, Fast Car” -- but with Up To Speed, it is making use of a serial format. In each episode, host James Pumphrey traces the lineage of a popular model back to its roots. Up first is the Volkswagen Gti, which Pumphrey discussed in a video that has since received millions of views across Donut’s distribution network.

Paramount Digital Entertainment, the studio that previously provided a pair of hits in Burning Love and The Hotwives of Orlando, has officially released its third reality TV parody. Beef, which stars Christopher Meloni as a deli owner-turned-judge, can now be downloaded from on demand platforms. Beef, created by Michael Ian Black, Joe Lo Truglio, and Jonathan Stern of Abominable Pictures, has Judge Judy in its sights. While Meloni's satirical take on daytime TV judges is the main attraction, Beef will follow the lead of other Paramount Digital series by loading up on guest appearances. Lizzy Caplan, Stefanie Beatriz, and Reckless Tortuga's James Pumphrey are a few of the familiar faces who show up across Beef's two-and-a-half-hour runtime. Here's the series trailer, courtesy of Paramount Digital: This time around, Paramount Digital is trying something new by opting for a direct release to VOD platforms rather than online streaming sites

You know you’re in for a tough time with a movie, especially a comedy, when the promotion centres around one of the smaller roles and Not the films leads. And so is the case with Awful Nice. Yes, despite the appearance of Christopher Meloni (Law & Order: Svu, True Blood) amongst the cast of unknowns, the apparent star of this film – at least according to the PR spiel rolled out for the movie so far – is “British FHM darling Keely Hazell”.
Yeah doesn’t look good does it?
Awful Nice tells the story of Jim and Dave. Two brothers who haven’t seen each other in years, but when their father unexpectedly dies, they are forced to travel down to Branson together to redeem their inheritance; the family’s lake house.

The comedy of antisocial behavior tends to work best when there's a nucleus of actual humanity, if only to remind you why all the incivility is funny.
The creators of Awful Nice seem to be aware of that contrast, but never really succeed at grounding their characters in real human behavior, and as a result, the interactions of the two leads are like a finger hitting a single piano note for 90 minutes.
Jim (James Pumphrey) and Dave (Alex Rennie) inherit a lake house in Branson, Missouri, from their dead father, and decide to renovate and flip it. The relationship between brothers can be one both loving and competitive, and both of those qualities are right up front in the upcoming comedy "Awful Nice." Co-written and directed by Todd Sklar, and based on his short film “'92 Skybox Alonzo Mourning Rookie Card,” film stars James Pumphrey, Alex Rennie, Christopher Meloni, Brett Gelman, and Keeley Hazell, and tells the story Jim and Davie, brothers who haven't seen each other in years, who are reunited when their father dies, and must take a trip to redeem their inheritance. And that's the start of a mishap filled series of misadventures, and in this clip, we see the pair take their rivalry to absurd levels. "Awful Nice" opens on March 7th. Watch below.

Screen Media Films will distribute the film, which Sklar co-wrote with Alex Rennie, on March 7. ‘Awful Nice,’ which debuted at last year’s SXSW, stars James Pumphrey, Alex Rennie, Christopher Meloni, Brett Gelman and Keeley Hazell. Screen Media Films has released the following synopsis for the comedy: Todd Sklar’s ‘Awful Nice’ centers on estranged brothers Jim (James Pumphrey) and Dave (Alex Rennie) who are forced to travel to Branson together to renovate and flip the lake house they’ve inherited from their just-deceased father. Cleverly expanding upon the narrative set-up from his short film '92 Skybox Alonzo Mourning Rookie Card, Todd Sklar takes the story of two hapless brothers brought together by their father's funeral and shows us the aftermath. Awful Nice essentially begins with a replay of '92 Skybox Alonzo Mourning Rookie Card, as Jim (James Pumphrey) tracks his brother Dave (Alex Rennie) and bribes him into returning to Minnesota for their father's funeral. It quickly becomes apparent why these two siblings have grown so far apart. They do not like each other -- you might even say that they detest each other. Fist fights and wrestling matches are inevitable, but after their father's funeral they still decide to go on a road trip together to Branson, Mo. Why? Well, they plan on selling their family's summer home in order to cash in on their inheritance.

In “Awful Nice,” the (nearly) lost art of physical comedy makes a roaring resurgence, courtesy of two belligerent brothers who tussle their way through their father’s funeral, argue all the way to Branson, Mo., and break more than they fix during an ill-fated home-improvement project. Compulsively funny cut-ups Alex Rennie and James Pumphrey play siblings Dave and Jim Brouillette in what has become an indie-comedy subgenre unto itself: the bros-on-the-road movie. Hyper-obnoxious by design, Todd Sklar’s soph feature should tickle the tastes of cult auds and Funny or Die fans in limited release, while annoying pretty much everyone else.
The ultra-weird opening shot — in which responsible big brother Jim (Pumphrey) rouses Dave (Rennie), half-stoned, half-hungover and totally naked, from the tent where he’s been living — and most of the next eight minutes will look familiar to anyone who saw Sklar’s rowdy sibling-rivalry short, “’92 Skybox Alonso Mourning Rookie Card.

To call director Todd Sklar's sense of humor peculiar is to understate the weird and wacky no-holds-barred comedy we've come to know in his work. One look at his hit short '92 Skybox Alonzo Mourning Rookie Card and his punch-you-in-the-balls style will be apparent. With Awful Nice, that short has now seen the feature adaptation treatment, and if the small version had you chuckling, the super-sized package will have you in stitches As seen in 92Samrc, the story begins when Jim (James Pumphrey) finds his brother Dave (Alex Rennie) passed out in a wigwam and bribes him into driving back to Minnesota with him to attend their father's funeral. Drinking contests turn into fist fights and eventually Jim and Dave set out for Branson,...

Director Todd Sklar's short film, brazenly titled "'92 Skybox Alonso Mourning Rookie Card," followed a pair of estranged brothers drawn together by the untimely passing of their father. At less than 13 minutes, it managed to economically set up two aimless characters and let them run wild to comic effect, culminating with a kitchen food fight for the ages. Before either their crude personalities or the relentless virile jokes grew tiresome, it was over. No such luck with "Awful Nice," Sklar's feature-length treatment of the material, which resembles the short in spirit but takes its puerile energy to a tedious extreme. At the same time, Sklar and his cast display an admirable commitment to the zany task at hand, attempting to inject nearly ever scene with caustic wit. Brothers Jim (James Pumphrey) and Dave (Alex Rennie) are both unruly in their own distinct ways that pull them out of reality.

When I was a kid, I stuck a plunger on my brother's face. Another time, he hit me in the back of the head with a hockey stick. Brothers fight, and some of the time they grow out of it. Todd Sklar's Awful Nice focuses on Jim (James Pumphrey) and Dave (Alex Rennie), brothers who have kept their sibling rivalry alive and immature as possible. The movie begins by exaggerating the conflict while still making it relatable, but eventually, Awful Nice doesn't know how to progress beyond the brothers beating each other up and Dave being disgusting and idiotic. The film has some wonderful moments of strange comedy, and Sklar and co-writer Rennie clearly have some talent, but Awful Nice has trouble moving past its solid premise. The responsible Jim finds the ne'er-do-well Dave passed out inside a wigwam, and manages to woo his wayward brother back to Kansas...

A founding member of the Upright Citizen's Brigade, Matt Walsh is constantly popping up in comedies, especially those by friend and frequent collaborator Todd Phillips, to steal an improvised scene or two. On top of that, he recently wrote and directed what might be the first true improv movie, High Road, in history. Exclusive: ABC untitled Mandy Moore comedy pilot has decided to revamp a supporting character after the table read. As a result, James Pumphrey, who had been cast in the part, is being replaced with newcomer Mike Castle. The single-camera project, directed by Shawn Levy, centers on newlyweds Annie (Moore) and Ben (Nelson Franklin), who get the opportunity of a lifetime to run a hip, new restaurant in Annie’s hometown bringing her closer to her needy and high-maintenance family. The character that is being reworked is Annie’s younger brother Zach. I hear that early on the pilot’s producers were interested in Castle for the role. However, the character underwent significant changes in subsequent drafts, which led to auditioning other actors, with Pumphrey winning the part. But after the table read, the producers revisited the original concept for Zach and opted to revert to it, casting Castle in the role.

It's not often that you get the likes of Rob Riggle, James Pumphrey, Lizzy Caplan, Abby Elliot, Joe LoTruglio, Rich Fulcher, Horatio Sanz, Dylan Obrien, Zach Woods, Matt Jones, Ed Helms and Kyle Gass in the same room, but when you're veteran comic Matt Walsh, you can pull a few strings. Making his directorial debut with "High Road," Walsh called in favors to some of the people he's crossed paths with over the years for a stoner comedy that is unlike any other you're likely to see.
Simply put, the film follows a weed dealer split between his pregnant girlfriend, a gestating rock opera and his illegal job that pays the bills. Things go from bad to worse when a deal goes wrong and he's forced to go on the run with a teenager he's mentoring, allowing for the rich cast of characters to come into play.
So, do you want to check it out?...

High Road, a new direct-to-video release, is just what its title implies: part road movie, part stoner comedy. What makes it unique is what Millennium Entertainment advertises as a "totally improvised script." The film centers on Fitz (James Pumphrey), a 20-something burnout who takes to dealing pot when his bandmates bail on him for higher-paying gigs, and his 16-year-old client Jimmy (Dylan O' Brien). Fitz hits the road in fear that the cops are on his tail after a drug deal gone awry, while Jimmy tags along after his dad threatens to send him to military school. Naturally, Jimmy's father (Rob Riggle of The Hangover and Step Brothers) fears his son has been kidnapped by some child molester and enlists in the help of a wannabe detective (Joe Lo Truglio of Superbad and Role Models). And the chase begins. Credited as writer, director and producer, Matt Walsh (who you'll probably recognize as Dr.

Director Matt Walsh discusses his improvised comedy High Road, arriving on Blu-ray and DVD March 6
There's a classic line in the 2008 comedy Tropic Thunder where Robert Downey Jr.'s Kirk Lazarus, an Australian actor playing an African-American soldier, says, "I don't drop character 'till I done the DVD commentary." Of course, on the actual DVD commentary, there was Robert Downey Jr., still in character, chatting away as Kirk Lazarus. Last month, when I had the chance to drop in on a DVD commentary recording session for the comedy High Road, it actually was somewhat similar... but they didn't go full Kirk Lazarus.

While you say it's obvious, studios don't seem to care about connecting plot devices to release dates (see both of Rob Zombie's 'Halloween' films). Paramount Pictures on the other hand will take their trick or treating comedy Fun Size theater to theater on October 12, 2012. Directed by Josh Schwartz, the film is described as a cross between Superbad and Adventures in Babysitting on Halloween night. "In the film, Wren and her little brother Albert secretly head off to a party. The night turns to sh*t when Albert goes missing and it becomes a race to find him before ol' mom finds out." Victoria Justice, Thomas Mann, Jane Levy, Thomas Middleditch, Thomas McDonell, Osric Chau, Jackson Nicoll, Johnny Knoxville, Ana Gasteyer, Josh Pence, Holmes Osborne, James Pumphrey, Willam Belli, Peter Navy Tuiasosopo and Chelsea Handler all star.

Three radically different comedies are filling up with a bevy of well-known actors. Johnny Knoxville, Josh Pence and many more have joined the cast of [1] Fun Size, a kid comedy described as a Halloween-set blend of Superbad and Adventures in Babysitting. Allison Janney has been cast by Josh Radnor for Liberal Arts, which the How I Met Your Mother star will star in, write and direct [2]. Also Seth Green and Michelle Trachtenberg will appear along Katee Sackhoff in the dark comedy [3] Sexy Evil Genius. Read more about all of these projects after the jump. In the most awkward pairing of site and scoop ever, Bloody Disgusting [4] broke the news of the tween comedy called Fun Size which will feature Nickelodeon star Victoria Justice as a babysitter who takes a young kid to a party on Halloween and loses them. It'll mark the feature debut of Josh Schwartz, the creator of The Oc and Chuck.

One of the signature formulas for '80s comedies was the whole "Get everything fixed before mom and dad get back!" gag. That plot was the basic spine for "Risky Business," "Weird Science," "Ferris Bueller," "Adventures in Babysitting," and seemed to peter out around the time of "Don't Tell Mom the Babysitter's Dead."
Looks like it's making a comeback with the new throwback comedy "Fun Size," which also follows the one-crazy-night trend of "Superbad" but combines it with the awesomeness of Halloween. There hasn't been a truly great Halloween movie since, well, "Halloween."
According to Bloody Disgusting, the night in question revolves around a girl named Wren and her little bro Albert, who sneak off to a party. "The night turns to s**t when Albert goes missing and it becomes a race to find him before ol' mom finds out." Ticking clock, ticking clock!

"Maybe we could make a drinking game out of this," Matt Walsh told the crowd at the Seattle Film Festival. "Every time you see a comedian onscreen you like, drink a beer."
No one could legally take the Upright Citizens Brigade co-founder and Todd Phillips regular up on his offer, as the Neptune Theater doesn't serve alcohol, but if they did, they'd be well past the legal limit about five minutes into Walsh's directorial debut "High Road." A comedy that Walsh admitted featured only one actor who wasn't a good friend beforehand, the film surrounds its central character Fitz (James Pumphrey) with a cast of Ed Helms, Abby Elliott, "The Office"'s Zach Woods, Lizzy Caplan, Joe Lo Truglio and Rob Riggle.
Before you ask, they all appear for longer than you might think for a low-budget endeavor such as this, ostensibly a road movie once Fitz, an aimless twentysomething...

The Fall TV Season presentations for all the new network shows take place this week with the first announced today. Here's a full breakdown of which concepts have made the final list over on NBC.
With Bob Greenblatt having replaced the outgoing Jeff Zucker, NBC is looking to turn around its dismal fortunes and has started by significantly cutting back on a bunch of shows which were simply not performing. This schedule takes some big risks with some new shows needing to perform if they're to survive, while two two-hour reality show blocks early in the week have certainly raised eyebrows.
There are twelve new shows in all, half of which are being held until mid-season. In the Fall, the biggest gamble is "Prime Suspect" - the U.S. remake of the iconic British police drama. With only the rarest of exceptions, American remakes of British shows have generally failed...

It's that time again, and NBC has revealed it's 2011-2012 schedule. A couple of things have been kicked to the curb, and a host of new shows are coming to fill things in. I have a preview of the new fall shows, and the full schedule for you. There are a few surprises on the cut and not cut side of things, and the new shows have a bit of something for everyone.
