Nick was one of the main actors considered to play Augustus Waters in Nos étoiles contraires (2014), but the role eventually went to Ansel Elgort.

During his time on Melissa & Joey (2010) - he left numerous times to go work on films including Amiennemies (2012), The Kings of Summer (2013), Jurassic World (2015) & La 5e Vague (2016).

When it was announced that Ready Player One (2018) was set to become a film, Steven Spielberg immediately wanted Nick to play the main protagonist, Wade Watts, after working with him on Jurassic World (2015). The role eventually went to Tye Sheridan.

Nick attended Seattle Prep for his freshman year before moving to Los Angeles to pursue his acting career.

While still living in Seattle, Nick's parents put him into a theatre program called Broadway Bound, which is eventually what got him discovered as an actor.

Over the course of his time on Melissa & Joey (2010), Nick grew about a foot in height which is why on the show there are consistent jokes about his character Ryder being a giant.

Nick was accepted into New York University in 2013 shortly prior to his High School graduation from Campbell Hall - but deferred his first year to work on another season of Melissa & Joey (2010).

Nick has 4 siblings, all of whom are younger than he is, and 2 half-siblings, both of whom are older than he.

His favorite film of all time is The Big Lebowski (1998).

His first friend after moving out to Los Angeles was his Melissa & Joey (2010) co-star Taylor Spreitler.

He is close friends with his La 5e Vague (2016) co-star, Maika Monroe.

His maternal grandfather is of Croatian descent. His other roots are English, Irish, Scottish, Welsh, Swedish, and Danish.

He gets consistent comparisons to actor James Franco. He has stated that he would like to work with him someday.
