FICM Premiere of El Rey de la Fiesta
Salomon Askenazi is a writer/director from Mexico City (Born February 1st, 1985). He is one of the founders of the production company "Fosforescente". Salo attended film school at NYFA in New York and Centro in Mexico. His first feature "Ocean Blues" was made with only $20,000 USD and was distributed by Cineteca Nacional, later acquired by Netflix and Amazon Video. The movie won best director at Festival de Cine De Monteria in Colombia. Later he produced and edited "The Incident" which played at Fantastic Fest, Busan and Sitges, and also produced "Leona", which opened at Morelia Film Fest. His second movie as a director, "Dos Veces Tú" opened at Santa Barbara's Film Festival and premiered commercially February 21, 2020 in fifty screens in Mexico and got mostly positive reviews, winning prizes at Vasteras Film Festival, Merida-Yucatan Film Festival and Lighthouse FF. It was described by Filmthreat.com as: "Imagine putting Pulp Fiction, Memento, Sliding Doors, Abre Los Ojos, Mulholland Drive and Y Tu Mamá También in a blender. That still doesn't quite capture it, because Two Times You has such a unique style that it is a singular vision." and by Glenn Kenny of the New York Times as: "A visually striking, emotionally brutal exploration that doesn't look or feel like anything else in 2019 cinemas." Dos Veces Tu is now on Netflix. His third feature film "El Rey de la Fiesta" is a psychological thriller picked up by Cinepolis Distribucion and set premiere in theaters in February 2022. The movie won the Audience Award at Indy Film Fest and El Cabrito de Plata for Best Mexican Movie at FIC Monterrey and played at Viva Mexico Film Festival in Paris and Morelia Film Fest. Salo also co-owns Autocinema Coyote, a drive-in theatre, and "Quentin", a hip coffee shop. He also produced the Netflix Original "Fondeados" and the polemic documentary "El Secreto del Dr. Grinberg".
