'Virgin River' Needs to Put the Love Triangle Plot to Bed
Image
Based on Robyn Carr’s novel series of the same name, Netflix’s successful romantic drama series, Virgin River, dives into small town issues and Jack and Mel’s love story. Mel, who moved to Virgin River to work there as a midwife and escape the pain of the traumatic loss of her husband and unborn child, meets ex-Marine Jack, who carries his own trauma-filled package. Virgin River highlights their story, but also introduces various other characters and what they are dealing with.

One side character, who has been getting increasingly more screen time, is Jack’s sister and lawyer, Brie. While she was first linked to Jack’s friend, Brady, Season 6 of the successful series follows her as she navigates her new relationship with police investigator, Mike. Of course, their relationship doesn’t come without issues, because, despite breaking up with Brady, Brie is still caught up in a love triangle.

'Virgin River' Is a Better Show After Deviating From the Books
Image
Quick Links What Is 'Virgin River' About? The Main Difference Between the 'Virgin River' Novel and the Series Why the 'Virgin River' Series Is Better Than the Books

Netflix has a wide array of amazing series in stock, but the streaming platform certainly has a hand in long-running series that, among other things, have romance written all over them. Outlander, Chesapeake Shores, and Emily in Paris are only a few of the series on Netflix that have quite a few seasons to their name. One that stands out in particular is the romantic drama Virgin River.

The series has seen immense success ever since its first season was released in December 2019, and there truly seems to be no end in sight. Five seasons in, and with Virgin River Season 6 coming to Netflix on December 19, there is no denying that the series set in Northern...

Virgin River season 6 brought back a character that didn't need to return
Image
When you think about the extensive ensemble cast of Virgin River, there are a few characters some fans likely want to see more — or even less — of at times. Along the way, we have lost a few characters, and again, we miss some more than others. Well, in season 6, the series welcomed back a former main character for a long awaited homecoming.

Back in season 4, Grayson Gurnsey left Virgin River as a series regular when his character, Ricky, enlisted as a Marine. Gurnsey became a series regular in season 2 after recurring in season 1. Ricky lived with his grandmother Lydie and began dating Connie's niece Lizzie, who's of course now an integral character in the series.

Since he's left town at the end of season 4, there have been a lot of changes, even though in the grand scheme of the show's timeline, not much time has elapsed. Because of how much has happened in his absence,...

Image
Virgin River‘s prodigal son is coming home. As revealed in the just-released trailer for Season 6, Ricky (played by Grayson Gurnsey) will return to the show for the first time since leaving town at the end of Season 4.

It’s a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it moment, but Ricky is briefly spotted with his arm around ex-girlfriend Lizzie (Sarah Dugdale) around the trailer’s 16-second mark. When Ricky left Virgin River for basic training, Lizzie was already in a relationship with Denny (Kai Bradbury), but we’re pretty sure that her pregnancy will be news to him.

Virgin River Season 6's Time Jump After Season 5 Ending Teased By Showrunner
Image
Warning: Spoilers ahead for Virgin River season 5 part 2!

Virgin River season 6 will have a time jump, not picking up directly from the holidays. The showrunner hasn't confirmed the exact length of the jump. Virgin River showrunner Patrick Sean Smith has teased how long the time jump for season 6 will be following the finale of season 5. The last two episodes of the season had a time jump of their own, focusing on the holidays while delivering important developments for the story. These include...

"It Was All By Design": Virgin River Season 5 Part 2 Episodes Explained By EPs
Image
Warning: Spoilers ahead for Virgin River season 5 part 2!

Virgin River season 5 part 2 brings a lighter and more festive tone compared to the darker part 1, balancing out the series' overall feel. The focus on Mel's search for her biological father signifies a shift towards a less tragic storyline for her and Jack, offering hope for the future they've always wanted. The final episodes of season 5 set the stage for season 6, with Charmaine becoming a mother, indicating less tragic storylines to come.

Virgin River showrunner Patrick Sean Smith has opened up about the two episodes that make up season 5 part 2 of the series being happier than part 1. The former section featured Mel suffering a miscarriage that created a darker storyline as she tried to deal with the tragedy. Countering this is part 2, which is centered around the holiday season as Mel looks for her biological father.

Speaking with TVLine, Smith underscored how...

Ginny & Georgia Scores Two-Season Renewal With Big Changes; Virgin River to Return for Season 6
Brianne Howey and Antonia Gentry in Ginny & Georgia (2021)
On Wednesday, Netflix's first formal Upfronts presentation brought some exciting news for fans of the streaming service's most beloved shows.

Ginny & Georgia, which has been in limbo since January, has secured a pickup for two more seasons, keeping the show on the air through what will likely be the fourth -- and final -- season.

In an exclusive post-mortem interview in January, then-showrunner Debra J. Fisher teased that she and series creator Sarah Lampert had mapped out a four-season run for the show.

The renewal announcement's delay is shocking, especially considering the show has been a strong performer for Netflix.

However, the streaming service confirmed that Sarah Glinski (Degrassi: Next Class) will take over as showrunner from Fisher.

There is no reason for the switcheroo, but fans will be happy knowing the show is returning.

Ginny & Georgia Season 2 concluded with countless cliffhangers, including Georgia being arrested for murder.

Virgin River: Martin Henderson Celebrates Major Milestone With Co-Stars
Martin Henderson and Alexandra Breckenridge in Virgin River (2019)
Virgin River is one of Netflix's buzziest series.

Fans were shocked earlier this year when Virgin River Season 4 wrapped up with several cliffhangers.

Thankfully, the cast is hard at work on the forthcoming fifth season, which will feature the 50th episode.

Martin Henderson, who plays Jack on the soapy drama, took to Instagram earlier this month to celebrate.

"We just completed shooting the 50th episode of Virgin River. Who knew we'd all still be here telling this wholesome love story for the ages?" the star wrote.

"Big congrats to our extremely hard-working crew and our talented delightful cast for always striving to make this the best for you incredibly passionate and oh-so-discerning audience.

"We do it all for you!! Thank you for watching, maybe we'll make at least 50 more!! #virginriver @netflix #50episodes #happyhalfcentury."

Virgin River: Netflix Drama Head Addresses Whether Series Will End With Season 5
Martin Henderson and Alexandra Breckenridge in Virgin River (2019)
Virgin River has been a huge hit for Netflix since its launch in 2019.

The romantic drama landed a two-season renewal last year, keeping it on the air through its fifth season.

With Virgin River Season 4 recently wrapped, there have been questions about whether the show will end with its fifth season.

Netflix tends to end shows before they get to a fifth season, unless they are global hits.

Thankfully, Jinny Howe, the Netflix drama head sees "longevity and growth" ahead, meaning that there's a good chance the show will continue for a sixth season.

However, Howe wants the show to continue "as long as the audience asks for it and shows up."

“We see with Season 4 that the fandom is very strong and growing in many places as well,” Howe told Deadline.

“It feels like, based on what we’re seeing with Season 4 and the anticipation for Season 5, that there...

‘Virgin River’ Season 4 Trailer Released by Netflix (TV News Roundup)
Image
The official trailer for season 4 of “Virgin River,” the Netflix romantic drama based on the novels of Robyn Carr, has been released.

“Virgin River” stars Alexandra Breckenridge as Melinda Monroe, a nurse practitioner who accepts a job offer to move from Los Angeles to the titular North Carolina small town. The show follows Melinda as she adjusts to small town life and gets involved with romantic drama, particularly involving local restaurant owner Jack Sheridan (Martin Henderson).

The Season 4 trailer picks off where Season 3 left off, with Melinda pregnant and unsure whether or not the baby is Jack’s or if the father is her late husband Mark (Daniel Gillies). The question causes strain in the two’s relationship, especially with Melinda eager to find out who the father is, while Jack tries to dissuade her from taking a paternity test.

Virgin River Unveils Season 4 Trailer, and We're Already Worried About Mel & Jack
Alexandra Breckenridge
Looks can be deceiving.

When we first ventured to Virgin River in 2019, we followed Mel (Alexandra Breckenridge) as she adjusted to small-town life.

You wouldn't believe anything bad ever happened in Virgin River, but each season has gotten progressively darker and more dramatic.

Netflix dropped the first trailer for Virgin River Season 4 on Friday.

The beloved series returns July 20 for its biggest season yet.

We're getting 12 new episodes, and the official trailer gives us plenty of teases about what to expect.

Unfortunately, things aren't looking up for any of the characters.

So much has happened, and the series seems intent on spinning more yarns of drama.

"Despite not knowing whether her baby belongs to her deceased husband, Mark or Jack, Mel begins Season Four with a sense of optimism," the official synopsis reads.

"For years she yearned to be a mother and her dream is one step closer to reality,...
