Here's a mystery that needs solving - why are the Hollywood executives of today so keen to plunder the detective shows of yesteryear?

Whether it's Oscar winner Octavia Spencer in the newly-announced Murder She Wrote remake, or NBC's ill-fated Ironside reboot, or the upcoming Remington Steele sequel... many of TV's top cops are having a revival.

But which other classic 'tecs are ripe for reinvention? Here's five cold cases we'd like to see revisited...

Moonlighting

Forget Remington Steele, the 'Will they / Won't they' crime series to beat is Moonlighting. Every procedural-with-sexual-tension from Bones to Castle has drawn inspiration from ABC's '80s hit.

The challenge here would be to find two stars who could replicate the chemistry of the original show's leads. Could any young buck hope to match the charisma and wit of Bruce Willis?

That's vintage Willis, not grumpy-old-fart-in-a-dressing-gown Willis.

The Avengers

No, not that comic book lot...

A nutty-crunchy cult, a human-gorgon Pi, a family fit for My Big Fat Greek Wedding, hot god guys (not a metaphor), Federal spooks, zombie minions, and a dreamy Italian detective… welcome to San Francisco and Lucienne Diver’s second installment of her Latter-Day Olympians series, Crazy in the Blood, which delivers all that and a gaggle of ghouls (Samhain, $15 trade, July 2013). The story picks up at its usual breakneck pace soon after the events of the first installment and Hell (literally) hath no fury like a pissed-off mom—putting the whole earth and human race in danger in this family feud between god parental units with Dionysus, maenads, and health food in the mix for good measure. Shredded dead bodies are showing up and Uncle Christos has disappeared and his fav niece, part-gorgon Pi Tori Karacis, is determined to find him and discover the links, if any, even addicted to ambrosia and…...

We’re down to four contestants on Season 9 Food Network Star, and amazingly enough, one of them is a dude who’s only intelligible on every third word — and whose main dish this week looked like a sloughed-off hunk of forearm.

I know I’ve been saying for weeks now that it’s a three-woman race, but I’m starting to worry that the most paranoid TVLine comments-section posters have been on to something with their terrifying theories: Is it possible someone behind the Food Network curtain sees a Guy Fieri 2.0 in guitar-playing Rodney, a man prone to yelling “Pi Sty!

We hold in our hands the covers for DC Comics this March. As a child of four can plainly see, these comics have been hermetically sealed in a Cgc 9.8 slab, and they’ve been kept in a #2 mayonnaise jar under a giant pile of Christmas tinsel since noon today.

What do we have worth noting? The first fill-in artist on Justice League, although Gene Ha is certainly no slouch in that department. We also have new writers on Firestorm and Green Arrow, new backups in Justice League and Action Comics, and the DC 52 hits lucky number 7.

Shall we see who is the fariest of them all? Oh indeedy, let’s do!

What do we have worth noting? The new look of Darkseid, and we’re far enough into the new 52 books that it’s time for Batman to start crossing over in all of them. Plus Mara Jade, the red-haired assassin who fell in love with her blond-haired man she was sent to kill– oh, I’m sorry, that’s from Star Wars. This is Mera in a jade outfit. Our mistake.

Only 3 issues in an this series is looking like the best X-Men series currently being published, and that’s not to say the titles by Fraction, Gillen, Carey, and David aren’t good, it’s just that Uncanny X-Force has that certain something that makes it stand out. It’s a combination of the tight, fast paced writing of Remender, the amazing art by Opena and White, and lots of little touches that the creators add that make it a perfect comic.

High-schooler Fei "Phil" Lam started a business during his senior year of high school--and it's already pulling in six figures. Lam's stroke of genius was in recognizing that most every Apple fanboy was eagerly awaiting the white iPhone 4. So he founded WhiteiPhone4Now.com, a site offering conversion kits for giving a black iPhone a white makeover. Since starting the site, Lam has sold as much as $130,000 in parts, and is now worrying about possible legal ramifications for his success.

We spoke with the Queens, NY resident about his connections to Chinese iPhone manufacturer Foxconn, trademark infringement, and the private investigator threatening a criminal investigation.

Fast Company: Describe how you contacted your supplier. Does he work at Foxconn?

Fei "Phil" Lam: Foxconn is not responsible for making the parts. They just assemble parts sourced from other companies like Toshiba, but according to my guy, some parts are from Foxconn.

On Tuesday, The New York Observer reported that 17-year-old Fei "Phil" Lam has made a killing selling white iPhone 4 conversion kits, parts he imported factory-direct from China even before Apple. Now, in an exclusive interview with Fast Company, Lam -- a self-professed computer geek from Queens -- says business is booming.

"I made $8,000 so far today," he says, attributing the skyrocketing sales on WhiteiPhone4Now.com to the news that he's already sold $130,000 worth of parts. Since the story went viral this week, his site has been overloaded with new customers: It received more than 130,000 views today alone. While Lam wouldn't confirm exact figures, he did say his revenue was between $60,000 and $130,000. And profits? So far, $30,000 to $40,000.

Not bad for a high school senior.

If you haven’t been watching America’sGot Talent (and you really should), we promise you’ll never guess theperformance of choice for a bunch of frat boys from Virginia Tech.

They have majors like AerospaceEngineering, Electrical Engineering, and Human Nutrition, Foods, and Exerciseon their resumes. And they all seem to come in handy when they design theperformances for their act—Fighting Gravity.

In their black-light productions,several members dress in white while the others, all in black, seem todisappear in the background—creating an illusion of floating among the artiststhat are seen.

The group was formed in 2009 bybrothers from the Pi Kappa Alpha for a one-time performance at a sororitycharity event. When their YouTube video went viral and scored hundreds ofthousands of hits, the Agt producers took notice.

The guys were invited to New York toaudition. As 20-year-old Phil Deverna told us, they didn’t plan on making theshow.

The big television news for the week preceding, was, of course, Fox's decision to cancel Dollhouse, a move not necessarily unexpected, but still lamented by fans of the show. Sadly, the writing had been on the wall from the beginning of the season—without a significant uptick in viewership, the series' life-expectancy would be short. It didn't happen...and it was. Dollhouse will return Dec. 4, with its series finale set for Jan. 22.

Fox's other genre series, Fringe, rebounded a bit to its pre-World Series numbers with a 3.7 rating/6 share. That equates to a 19 percent jump from the previous week, but still trails behind The CW, where the network's flagship skein, Smallville, finally regained some ground to tie its former Thursday night stablemate, Supernatural.
