Kids’ Choice Awards Stage to Celebrate SpongeBob SquarePants, Feature First-Ever Rainbow-Colored Slime (Exclusive)

Kids’ Choice Awards viewers will be transported into the world of Bikini Bottom during this year’s show.

Nickelodeon has designed the stage based on the undersea home of SpongeBob SquarePants and Patrick Star, who are hosting the 2024 KCAs on Saturday from Los Angeles — just a few days ahead of the date of SpongeBob SquarePants’ 25th anniversary (it premiered on July 17, 1999).

To celebrate that milestone, the Kids’ Choice Awards is taking the show’s signature slime element to the next level, with a first: rainbow-colored slime. While Nickelodeon has featured gold slime in the past (at the 2016 Kids’ Choice Sports Awards), this year’s KCAs will feature its first-ever multicolored slime, which will spurt out of a giant birthday cake in honor of SpongeBob. ‘Black Mirror,’ ‘Silo’ and ‘The Last of Us’ Among Winners at BAFTA TV Craft Awards

“Black Mirror,” “Silo” and “The Last of Us” were among winners at the BAFTA TV Craft Awards on Sunday night in London.

“Black Mirror” Season 6 was among a handful of shows to take home two awards, with creator Charlie Brooker and writer Bisha K Ali winning in the drama writer category while the show also won best photography and lighting in fiction category for the episode “Demon 79.”

The awards were a win for Apple TV+ with “Silo” and “Slow Horses” also each taking home two awards, the former for original music in fiction and production design and the latter for sound in fiction and editing in fiction.

Meanwhile “The Last of Us” director Peter Hoar took home an award for best fiction director.

Period drama “The Great” also picked up a gong thanks to costume designer Sharon Long.

The awards were hosted by Stacey Dooley and guest presenters included Katie Piper and Tanya Moodie.

BAFTA has announced the winners of the BAFTA Television Craft Awards, presented at a ceremony held on Sunday night in London. The awards celebrate the creativity, skill, and craft of behind-the-scenes television talent and the best programs of 2023.

The following won two BAFTAs each:

Charlie Brooker and Bisha K Ali won the Writer Drama category and Stephan Pehrsson won for Photography & Lighting Fiction for Demon 79 (Black Mirror). Nikki Parsons, Ollie Bartlett and Richard Valentine won the Director: Multi-camera category, and Julio Himede, Tim Routledge, Kojo Samuel, Michael Sharp and Dan Shipton won Entertainment Craft Team for Eurovision Song Contest 2023. The Editing Team behind Once Upon a Time in Northern Ireland won Editing: Factual and the documentary’s composer Simon Russell won Original Music: Factual. Black Mirror, The Last of Us, and Slow Horses were among the winners of the BAFTA Television Craft Awards 2024, which were handed out in London on Sunday.

Silo, The Witcher, coverage of the coronation of King Charles III and the Eurovision Song Contest were also among the winners.

The craft award for best drama writer went to Charlie Brooker and Bisha K. Ali for Black Mirror episode “Demon 79.” Peter Hoar won the best director in fiction honor for his work on The Last of Us.

The ceremony, celebrating the best behind-the-scenes TV talent of 2023, was held at The Brewery in the British capital, an 18th-century brewery recast as an events venue.

HBO’s Game of Thrones prequel House of the Dragon and the BBC/AMC medical comedy-drama This Is Going to Hurt won the most honors at the 2023 BAFTA TV Craft Awards.

Martin Short and Shania Twain are in final talks to join ABC’s “Beauty and the Beast” special.

Sources tell Variety that Short would play Lumière while Twain will take on the role of Mrs. Potts in “Beauty and the Beast: A 30th Celebration.”

The news comes just days after Variety exclusively reported that David Alan Grier will play the role of Cogsworth in the production. Previously announced cast members include Oscar winner H.E.R. as Belle, Grammy winner Josh Groban as Beast and Joshua Henry as Gaston. Egot legend Rita Moreno will serve as the show’s narrator in the live-action/animated hybrid production.

The Hamish Hamilton-directed special will be filmed live and feature never-before-seen musical performances. Jamal Sims is serving as executive producer and choreographer. Set design is by Julio Himede with costumes by Marina Toybina (“The Masked Singer”).

Josh Groban, Joshua Henry and Rita Moreno will star in ABC’s “Beauty and the Beast 30th Anniversary Special,” Variety can exclusively reveal.

Groban, who recorded the original song “Evermore” for the 2017 “Beauty and the Beast” film, will play Beast. Henry, who recently starred on Broadway’s “Into the Woods,” will play Gaston. Moreno will serve as the show’s narrator, guiding viewers along the classically enchanting tale. As previously announced, Grammy winner H.E.R. will play Belle in the live-action/animated hybrid.

The casting news was announced Friday at the D23 Expo’s “Beauty and the Beast: A 30th Celebration” panel, moderated by Variety’s senior artisans editor Jazz Tangcay.
