Midnight Taxi Review: A Thrilling Psychological Journey Through London’s Shadows
Image
Eddie Carter works the lonely night shift as a taxi driver in London. One evening, while dozing off in his cab, he awakens to find the body of a murdered woman left right outside.

Disturbed by this unwanted discovery, Eddie can’t seem to put the image out of his mind. Frustrated by the police’s lack of progress on the case and puzzled by the media’s lack of coverage, Eddie takes matters into his own hands.

Plagued by insomnia and struggling with disturbed dreams, Eddie is no stranger to restless nights. But he’s about to embark on a disturbing new kind of nocturnal investigation that will take him deep into London’s shadowy places. Using contacts from a journalist passenger, Eddie begins poking around the seedy underbelly of the city, trying to uncover what really happened in those dark early hours.

But amid the twists and turns...

‘Midnight Taxi’ VOD Review
Image
Stars: Ladi Emeruwa, Amerjit Deu, Charlotte Price, Nathan Turner, Jamie B. Chambers | Written and Directed by Bertie Speirs, Samantha Speirs

A new neo-noir from England, Midnight Taxi is the story of Eddie a London cab driver whom we first meet debating the pros and cons of ride-share services with an investigative reporter and regular customer, Adam who sees them as an alternative to the monopoly held by licensed cabs. It’s a fun back-and-forth that establishes his intelligence as he defends his occupation.

From that and other interactions with his passengers, he seems like a friendly, personable guy, well suited to dealing with the public, and happy with his job. But, like many third-shift workers, he has problems sleeping during the day and occasionally needs to grab a nap while working. And then one night, in the twenty minutes he’s asleep, somebody dumps the bound corpse of a local...

Midnight Taxi – Review
Image
A scene from Midnight Taxi. Courtesy of Slated

First of all, if you’re a vintage film buff who has already seen 1937’s Midnight Taxi, this new movie one bears no similarity beyond the shared name. This is a surreal indie drama featuring Eddie (Ladi Emeruwa), a London cabbie who likes the night shift with its relatively light traffic. After dozing off in his cab, he awakens to find a murdered woman lying on the street in front of him. After that, he’s so haunted by the memory and the cops’ seeming indifference to finding her killer that he begins his own obsessive investigation.

The rest is a suspenseful ordeal with a few wrinkles and twists. One cop seems hell-bent on blaming Eddie for the crime. We gradually learn more about Eddie’s past and psychological issues that blur the picture for him and the viewer. There are a...

Full Trailer for 'Midnight Taxi' Mystery Thriller Starring Ladi Emeruwa
Image
"I'm having moments where I can't tell if I'm awake or asleep." BritFlicks has revealed an official trailer for an indie mystery thriller from the UK called Midnight Taxi, following a Black Cab driver around London. It's set for a VOD release later in July this summer if anyone is interested. In Midnight Taxi, Eddie Carter, a sleepwalking cab driver, must navigate London's seedy underworld to solve a murder and determine his own innocence. Directed by filmmakers Bertie & Samantha Speirs and featuring Ladi Emeruwa as Eddie, Charlotte Price, and Eddie Eyre, this gripping thriller takes viewers on a nocturnal journey through a city's hidden darkness. "Don't miss this suspenseful tale of mystery and self-discovery," they say. Might be entertaining? This doesn't look like it's the best taxi cab thriller out there, but it does have an intriguing plot about a seemingly innocent cabbie losing his mind as he gets more and more exhausted.

A ‘Midnight Taxi’ Journey Through London’s Underbelly

Midnight Taxi, a gripping new thriller from writer-director duo Bertie and Samantha Speirs, is set to hit VOD and digital platforms on Tuesday, 23 July 2024. The film stars Ladi Emeruwa, Charlotte Price, and Eddie Eyre, and promises a chilling dive into London’s seedy underworld.

The film centres on Eddie Carter (played by Emeruwa), a Black Cab driver whose nocturnal routines are disrupted by a murder that plunges him into a world of fear and uncertainty. When Eddie’s daytime sleep is disturbed by relentless construction noise, he begins to rely heavily on coffee to stay alert during his night shifts. One night, after pulling over for a rest, Eddie wakes up to a horrifying sight: a murdered woman’s body lying ahead of his cab.

Haunted by the discovery and increasingly disturbed by his fatigue, Eddie’s nights grow more terrifying. He starts to sleepwalk again—a condition from his...

Douglas Henshall in Shetland (2013)
Shetland Series 7 Cast: Meet the New Characters
Douglas Henshall in Shetland (2013)
Shetland’s Series 7 return is a bittersweet one for fans of the Scottish BBC crime drama. The six-episode run will be actor Douglas Henshall’s last in the lead role of Di Jimmy Perez. Henshall’s departure though, doesn’t mean the end for Shetland, which has been renewed for an eighth series due to arrive in 2023. A new, as-yet-unannounced, lead actor will be joining the returning cast for that run.

Series 7, which starts on BBC One on Wednesday the 10th of August at 9pm, promises to tie up Perez’s loose ends and follow up on last series’ will-they-won’t-they frisson with Irish carer Meg. Before Perez says his final goodbye to the evidence board though, there’s a missing person case to solve, and a host of new characters to interrogate. Here’s who he’ll be meeting…
