Previously announced back in January 2024 , Expelled from Paradise: Resonance of the Heart , the sequel to the 2014 Expelled from Paradise original theatrical anime film, has revealed a new trailer and a new piece of key art (below). The film is scheduled to hit Japanese theaters in 2026. Expelled from Paradise: Resonance of the Heart Trailer The new film reunites the staff of the earlier film, with Seiji Mizushima directing a screenplay by Gen Urobuchi (of Nitroplus) and Masatsugu Saito providing character designs. Kanetake Ebikawa, Junya Ishigaki and Takayuki Yanase provide mechanical designs, and Narasaki provides the music. The cast for the new film has not yet been revealed. Aniplex of America held a total of 15 screenings across the US in December of the same year.

Experimental metal act Boris have announced a split album with fellow veteran Japanese band Coaltar of the Deepers. The LP, titled hello there, arrives March 22nd.

Both acts formed in the early 90s, and Boris member Takeshi has cited Coaltar of the Deepers’ shoegaze sound as an influence on his own band. The two previously collaborated in 2019 when Boris covered Coaltar of the Deepers’ 2007 song “To the Beach” for their tears EP. Boris’ version was produced by Coaltar of the Deepers singer-guitarist Narasaki.

The upcoming album features six songs, with Boris commenting that the concept is to “present newly recorded self-covers of past songs to today’s listeners,” as well as “a new attempt to specify songs to the other band and cover each other’s songs.”

Despite its lack of popularity, Expelled from Paradise greatly stands out thanks to its visuals, writing, and overall great direction.

In 2014, acclaimed anime director Seiji Mizushima and acclaimed anime writer Gen Urobuchi collaborated on the CG anime film, Expelled from Paradise. While it's hardly either creator's most notable work, the writing and impressive CG visuals did allow the film to be a modest success and maintain a cult following in the years since its release.

Expelled from Paradise is a very underrated film, and a decade after its release, it's getting an unexpected sequel. In 2022, it was announced that Expelled from Paradise staff members Seiji Mizushima, Gen Urobuchi, Masatsugu Saito, and Narasaki would be collaborating on another project together.
