Jamel Wade

Jamel Wade is a native New Yorker from Fort Greene, Brooklyn, and a graduate of Villa Julie College and Howard Community College, with a Bachelor's in Film, Video, and Theater and an Associate in Theater Performance and Technical Theater. His diverse career spans notable stage performances, including appearances in The Rep Stage production of Anna Lucasta (2002), South Pacific with the Heritage Players (2004), Repeat Offender with the Howard "G" All Stars (2005), and The Waiting Room with the Laurel Mill Playhouse (2006). In the realm of film and television, he was prominently featured in NBC's Commander-in-Chief, HBO's The Wire, and independent films such as The High-jacker and the Hound, as well as the TV pilot Behind the Badge. His journey in the entertainment industry began at the age of 8, having studied at the Brooklyn Conservatory of Music and spent time at Al Fann's Theatrical Ensemble in Harlem. Not content with just acting and directing, he has also ventured into singing and writing. In 2003, he made his directorial debut with What Face Evil for the Try It Out Theater Company. Founding Seven Lights Productions Inc. in 2005, he directed the award-nominated documentary Directors on Directing and the original production of the movies Drugs 101 (2010) and Drug Affected (2020). His upcoming film projects currently in preproduction include No Tomorrow (2011) and Shades of Grey (2012). His theater productions for the 2011-2012 season of Superman to Man garnered him the August Wilson Writers Award, Best New Play, and Best Original Play at the DC Theatre Festival. His directorial work extended to the 50th Anniversary of the 5% at the Apollo Theater in 2015. Most recently, he co-wrote, produced, and directed Runaway - The Keisha Davis Story, scheduled for release in 2024.and Best Original Play at the DC Theatre Festival.
