While not every great anime starts out that way, there are some incredible series that blow viewers' minds with the very first episode. These series later go on to prove just how good they are, but it's their first episodes that really set the tone for what they're going for. There's a common "three-episode rule" in the world of anime that states that a viewer shouldn't drop a series until they've given the show at least three episodes. Some series only need a third of that.
It's hard to nail the first episode of an anime, especially if the series needs to tell the story of a prologue before the events of the series. Most series' first episodes are somewhere around 22 minutes long without commercials or opening/closing music, making it incredibly difficult to captivate audiences right away. While it might seem difficult, some anime series show that it isn't impossible.

While the isekai genre can sometimes be fairly lighthearted, that's not always the case. In some anime, reincarnations lead to new lives that are just as bad, if not worse, than those experienced by the protagonist beforehand. The result is usually a dark series that completely goes against expectations.
The darkest isekai anime and manga change the game for the genre, going against the power fantasy grain for stories that are much bleaker. Some of this involves the harsh reality of the genre, with different elements played straight compared to most isekai. On the other hand, some of these works are simply as tragic as can be, throwing their heroes into increasingly horrible situations that make them wish they were reincarnated as just about anything else.

Misery loves company, and fans aren't alone in enduring Re:Zero Season 3's intensity. Garfiel Tinsel voice actor Nobuhiko Okamoto joined in on the suffering during a recent interview, sharing insight on the self-described "discomfort and disgust" he injected into his performance.
Reflecting on the devastation in Watergate City in Episodes 5 and 6, Okamoto spoke with Animate Times about the smash-hit isekai -- currently 2024's top-ranked isekai series on Mal -- and its escalating stakes. "I thought flooding was bound to occur in Watergate City, but I never expected that the watergates would open, and the muddy waters would take the whole city," Okamoto said, adding, "It was painful to watch the death resurrection, but it was also painful to watch the loss of something."

Isekai anime heroes have the unique opportunity of getting a second chance in their new lives. They usually come to their new world either as a baby, retaining all of their memories from their past life, or in their current, weakened form. No matter how they arrive in their new homes, they usually bring their problems with them. As they learn to live in their new world, they can have great character development, learning to get over previous issues through the help of newfound friends.
Fulfilling character arcs are some of the most cathartic reasons to watch a series, and isekai is full of them. There's a ton of great isekai series that place a character in a new setting with the same old problems, giving them a chance to rise above their issues. The best written isekai heroes don't necessarily need to have gone through a dramatic change in character,...

Re:Zero Season 3 has leveled up on lore and story, and fans have responded highly positively, with the series currently billed as one of the most popular airing anime of the Fall 2024 season, according to MyAnimeList. However, an interview with Beatrice voice actor Satomi Arai has revealed that the cast of the hit isekai show cast may have a far more trying experience.
The popular series' return for Season 3 in Fall 2024 has long been earmarked as one of the most anticipated anime of the entire year. Anime siblings can share each other's power, creating some of the strongest pairs, or groups of three, in their respective series. Characters like Itachi and Sasuke from Naruto have incredibly similar powers, but have their own versions of unique skills, making them a force to be reckoned with on the battlefield. The most powerful siblings in anime aren't always on the same side either, which always makes for an interesting fight. One brother fighting another can be emotional, fulfilling, and jaw-dropping when done right.
No matter if two anime siblings are fighting each other or on the same side, it's always fun to see when they connect. Some brothers, like Ritsu and Mob from Mob Psycho 100, don't have to fight each other. Instead, they can rely on one another in some of the toughest fights in the series, focusing on their faith in each other to defeat opponents they...

Art requires both inspiration and perspiration, creativity and effort. Inspiration can come from anywhere, from a good book like Howl's Moving Castle to an old manga and anime like Kimba the White Lion helping inspire The Lion King. However, while anime may have helped influence Disney products on a number of occasions, the same could also be said in reverse. Disney classics like Cinderella and The Little Mermaid help inspire anime series and manga in turn.
However, not all inspiration is the same. Though two series might be inspired by Snow White, the end product doesn't have the same plot or characters. It may not even be set in the same or similar worlds. Disney helped inspire plenty of the manga, but these are the ten best manga series Disney helped inspire.

The late Kentaro Miura dazzled fantasy fans around the world when he launched his greatest work, the dark fantasy epic Berserk. Running from 1989 to the present day, Berserk has become a seinen manga icon in many ways, from its unparalleled illustrations and hard-hitting plot twists to its cast of richly realized, highly compelling characters. Each story arc in Berserk explores the main characters in ever-greater depths while also introducing new characters to add to the fun.
Anyone new to Berserk is going to meet a variety of characters with their own hopes, dreams, fears, scars, and triumphs, and it's a good idea to keep all those characters straight as the story of Berserk grows ever more complex.
