Chris Hemsworth & Halle Berry's 'Crime 101' Gets 2026 Release Date
Image
Those looking for the 411 on Crime 101are in luck, as Chris Hemsworth and Halle Berry's upcoming heist thriller has stolen a high-profile date in Amazon MGM Studios' theatrical release calendar. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Crime 101, based on the crime novella of the same name by author Don Winslow, will open in theaters on Feb. 13, 2026, just in time for Valentine's Day, because who needs flowers when you have an Avenger in action outside the MCU? It also coincides with the beginning of Presidents' Day weekend.

The studio behind Crime 101 has reportedly committed to Feb. 13, 2026, despite it being the same day that Emerald Fennell's controversial Wuthering Heights' adaptation opens in theaters, and a highly curious untitled MCU Phase 6 movie. This release date takes advantage of the long holiday weekend that often presents moviegoers with free time to visit the theater. The addition of Crime 101 to the...

Rating: 5.0/5.0

Joanna Arnow (also writer and director) is Ann, a nebbishy middle of the road type that lives in New York City and works for a bland we-don’t-know-what-they-do marketing company that is in the midst of a merger. Meanwhile, through dating apps, Ann indulges her kink as a submissive in her online hook ups, including her main man Allen (Scott Cohen), who in his “master” role is completely dismissive of her or her needs. As she cycles through other men she lands with Chris (Babak Tafti) who takes a romantic shine to her. Is the feeling that the time for doing something have passed, or is that feeling misjudged?

The Feeling That the Time for Doing Something Has Passed Review
Image
There is a scene in The Feeling That the Time for Doing Something Has Passed when our protagonist, Ann, is kneeling on the floor naked, gagged, and thoroughly happy to be humiliated by her longtime lover. Its just one aspect of Anns life that finds her bowing to lifes many subjugationsorganic or intentional. Shes grown used to the slow ebb and flow of the life she created for herself. Or, perhaps, the one created for her. Either way, Ann doesnt really resist her fate. In fact, at times, she seems to relish the absurdities of it all.

This is part of the brilliance of Joanna Arnow, who writes, directs, and stars in this offbeat yet thoroughly fascinating mosaic-style comedy that explores the underbelly of relationships of all kinds, the choices we make, and why. Executive produced by Sean Baker (Red Rocket), the film premiered at Cannes Directors Fortnight. Between its...

Joanna Arnow, As Her Feature Debuts, Knocks Oft-Used Words “Describing Films Women Make About Sexuality” – Specialty Preview
Image
There’s a nice trio of specialty films to highlight this weekend from Joanna Arnow, Uberto Pasolini and Caitlin Cronenberg’s feature directorial debut.

Joanna Arnow’s micro-budget comedy The Feeling That The Time For Doing Something Has Passed world premiered in Cannes’ Directors’ Fortnight. It follows a thirtysomething New York woman as time passes in her long-term casual Bdsm relationship, low-level corporate job, and quarrelsome Jewish family. Arnow writes, directs and stars. And that’s Bdsm, as in bondage and discipline, dominance and submission, sadism and masochism.

The helmer is thrilled to see her feature (after 2017’s i hate myself :), and a handful of well-received shorts) launch a theatrical run, with Magnolia distributing. “That’s how I dream of my movies being seen,” Arnow tells Deadline. “It’s also so important to see comedies (on the big screen) Shared laughter with strangers is quite beautiful and healing in a way.

The Feeling That The Time For Doing Something Has Passed Review: Loneliness Is Hilarious In Poignant Comedy
Image
Arnow's film emphasizes the importance of uplifting smaller artists for unique perspectives in indie cinema. The protagonist, Ann, navigates loneliness, intimate relationships, and normalization of sexuality, anchoring the film's comedy. Through prolonged silences and a unique visual style, the film's direction isolates Ann and captivates viewers with its unobtrusive approach.

The Feeling That the Time for Doing Something Has Passed was written, directed, and stars Joanna Arnow, and it's clear from the beginning that though this is her world, her character is merely passing through it. Arnow plays Ann, a 30-something millennial living in New York City. However, this version lacks the glitz and glamour of shows like Sex and the City, delivering an honesty akin to Girls while standing completely on its own. The Feeling That the Time for Doing Something Has Past is rooted in an unforgiving reality that reminds the audience to laugh at moments of tragedy.

Joanna Arnow Wants to Make Being Submissive Powerful, and, Yes, Funny Again with Her Bdsm Feature Debut
Image
Joanna Arnow’s feature-length film debut “The Feeling That the Time for Doing Something Has Passed” is a spiky, hilarious look at the life of Ann (Arnow), a thirty-something living in Brooklyn, working a corporate job, dealing with her meddlesome family, and passing the time in her casually longterm Bdsm relationship with an older man.

Arnow’s previous work, including the shorts “Bad at Dancing,” which won a Berlinale Silver Bear Jury Prize in 2015, and “I hate myself :).” Both explore similar themes of loneliness and sexuality through an autofiction lens. But they also showcase Arnow’s specific comedic insight into everyday, mundane things that might not seem funny at first but are downright gut-busting in her hands.

“The Feeling That the Time” premiered at Cannes Directors’ Fortnight in 2023 before Magnolia Pictures acquired it out of the festival, with Sean Baker executive producing.

The first inspiration for “The Feeling That...

Review: Joanna Arnow’s The Feeling That the Time for Doing Something Has Passed
Joanna Arnow
In The Feeling That the Time for Doing Something Has Passed, writer-director-star Joanna Arnow plays Ann, a thirtysomething woman in a long-term Bdsm relationship with the much older Allen (Scott Cohen). The film opens on a naked Ann lying in bed beside a clothed Allen, before she turns and robotically dry humps him while he feigns sleep. “I love how you don’t care if I get off,” Ann coos to him. “It’s like I don’t even exist.” While this moment immediately establishing the playful rules of Ann and Allen’s sexual agreement, Arnow also hits on an apt metaphor for the existential crisis of so many modern millennials: that they’re exposed and ignored in an unforgiving social climate still dominated by older generations.

Ann’s affair with Allen is indicative of the rest of her day-to-day existence. As a “Clinical eMedia Learning Specialist” at a banal New York corporate office,...

Billions Season 7 Episode 2 Review: Original Sin

A lot goes into being elected into a political office, and few can hack it. It is a huge financial burden that becomes bigger when every aspect of someone's life is scrutinized, from their career to marriage.

For a billionaire, the financial part is not a big deal because of the billionaire part. And since they tend to roll in the same circles, a billionaire is almost guaranteed support from his filthy rich friends.

Whoever said money couldn't solve all your problems must have been on to something because it can't stop your marriage from appearing like a sham to a keen observer.

We will dive into the events from Billions Season 7 Episode 2, so if you are yet to get caught on it, beware of spoilers. Otherwise, happy reading!

The hour saw many things happen as two key characters secured major wins while some three lost more than can be quantified.

Cannes Sales So Far: Wim Wenders’ 3D Doc ‘Anselm’ Lands at Sideshow and Janus Films
Image
The 2023 Cannes Market is behind us, and like clockwork, Neon managed to buy the winner of the Palme d’Or for the fourth straight year, Justine Triet’s “Anatomy of a Fall.”

But that wasn’t the only major sale. This year’s Marché du Film netted major domestic deals for some of the buzziest competition titles such as Todd Haynes’ “May December” and Aki Kaurismäki’s “Fallen Leaves,” as well as hot packages like “Paddington 3.” But uncertainty over the writers strike still loomed large, and distributors favored completed projects over packages.

Below are some of the deals we’ve tracked out of Cannes so far, and we’ll be updating this space with more sales as they come in.

Title: “Anselm”

Section: Special Screenings

Distributor: Sideshow and Janus Films

Wim Wenders had not one but two separate films play at this year’s Cannes, and now each have found a home.

‘The Feeling That the Time for Doing Something Has Passed’ Review: A Young Woman Seeks Debasement
Image
[Editor’s Note: This review was originally published during the 2023 Cannes Film Festival. Magnolia Pictures will release the film in U.S. theaters April 26.]

“I love that you never do anything for me…it’s like I don’t even exist.”

That’s what Ann, a depressed thirty-something New Yorker, tells her older on-and-off Bdsm lover in the first scene of writer-director Joanna Arnow’s “The Feeling That the Time for Doing Something Has Passed,” in which the filmmaker also stars as Ann. Her heroine is an existentially moribund millennial wasting away in an anonymous-feeling corporate job who passes her time with sexual debasement when not quarreling with her nagging Jewish family.

This clever and disquieting indie unfolds at a clip somnambulant enough to match its lead’s spiritual stupor, whether she’s spreading her ass for her partners (clients?) or on the phone with her needling mother insisting that, no, she isn’t running out of breath despite trudging up and down the Manhattan streets.

Cannes Review: Joanna Arnow’s The Feeling That the Time for Doing Something Has Passed Marks a Singular Debut
Sean Baker and Aiden Noesi in Prince of Broadway (2008)
In The Feeling That the Time for Doing Something Has Passed, Ann, a lugubrious New Yorker, sleepwalks through her daily life––colorless job, perennially disappointed parents––while maintaining a long-term sub/dom relationship with an older man. She visits her Jewish family, goes to yoga, and attempts some Internet dating. Invariably she winds up in her boyfriend’s lifeless brownstone. Executive-produced by Sean Baker, this is the feature debut of writer-director Joanna Arnow, a Brooklyn-based actor and filmmaker who made a name for herself as a wry observer of millennial sex lives and stasis with a couple of award-winning shorts: Bad at Dancing (2015) and Laying Out (2019). In Dancing, Arnow sat naked on the floor, casually asking for advice from a friend having sex right in front of her. The sense that everyone around you is getting their shit together (and maybe getting laid) is present again here; yet eight years hence,...

‘The Feeling That the Time for Doing Something Has Passed’ Review: With Wry Wit, Joanna Arnow Presents Millennial Life in All Its Mundanity
Image
It takes a moment to settle into the rhythm of Joanna Arnow’s droll directorial debut The Feeling That the Time for Doing Something Has Passed. The beginning riffs on a familiar scene of lovers in post-coital repose before offering something so different, it’s hard not to laugh. Ann (Arnow) lays on the sheets, staring at Allen (Scott Cohen), who is asleep under the covers. She inches closer until she’s on top of him. Then, the humping begins. “I like how you don’t care if I get off,” she says, “because it’s like I don’t even exist.” To that, her lover tiredly replies: “Can you not?”

Like most of the dialogue in The Feeling That the Time for Doing Something Has Passed, this line is delivered without any affect or hint of emotion. Arnow’s directorial debut plays with the mundanity of existence by extracting...

Crimes and passion by Jennie Kermode
Dana Aliya Levinson
Dana Aliya Levinson in Fraud

A short film which is getting a lot of traction and will be screening at this year’s Outfest Los Angeles, Fraud is a neatly condensed, stylish crime drama, directed by Zen Pace, which follows a trans woman, Shira (Dana Aliya Levinson), who works as a singer but makes her real money on the side by scamming credit cards. When one night she has an amorous encounter with handsome stranger André (Babak Tafti), who has secrets of his own, it results in a surprising proposition. Dana wrote the script herself and was keen to discuss it.

“The short film is based on a pilot that I wrote with the same name,” she explains. It's a one hour drama, and it was inspired by an actual day I had. I grew up in a family with a lot of financial instability and I was working at a bar and saving up.
