'Attack of the Demons' Is Like Lovecraft Meets 'South Park'
Image
Lovecraft and South Park may seem like an unlikely pairing to the uninitiated, but fans know that the ancient entity known as Cthulhu made an appearance in the hit comedy show in Season 14 episodes "Coon 2: Hindsight" and "Mysterion Rises." Even the crab people give off some serious Lovecraftian vibes. Still, South Park's comedic edge keeps it from giving horror fans a proper homage to the late author of cosmic terror.

This gap is perfectly filled by the 2019 hand-crafted animated film, Attack of the Demons. It captures the artistic DIY flair of early South Park but manages to touch on a more macabre and mature horror story that does H.P. Lovecraft justice. The best part? The movie is free to stream.

Hell Comes to a Sleepy Town in 'Attack of the Demons'

Set in 1994, Attack of the Demons follows three friends with different nerdy interests — Kevin, Jeff, and Natalie...

Before ‘Terrifier’… Damien Leone’s ‘All Hallows Eve’ Now Available on VHS!
Image
Before becoming a modern horror icon with the Terrifier franchise, Art the Clown made his debut in Damien Leone’s All Hallows’ Eve. The 2013 horror anthology is now available on VHS at Witter Entertainment.

Presented by Broke Horror Fan (that’s me!), the fully functional VHS is available in two variants: a standard slipcase for $30 and a book box edition with a flip-open cover and an orange tape, limited to 100, for $50.

For optimal VHS viewing, the movie has been cropped from its original aspect ratio to 4:3 full frame. It’s officially licensed from Rlje Films and approved by Leone.

In the film, “While babysitting two children on Halloween night, a young woman finds an old VHS tape in the kids’ trick or treat bag. The tape features three tales of terror, all linked together by a murderous clown. As the night goes on strange things begin to occur in the house.

Terrifier Ending Explained: The Bloody Birth Of A Franchise
Image
"Terrifier" is the little slasher series that could. Writer-director Damien Leone harnessed decades of horror movie history to imbue his low-budget breakout with not just heaps of blood and uber-violence, but a subversive sense of whimsy as well. As a result, "Terrifier" remains one of this century's most successful indie horror titles. Its sequel, "Terrifier 2," carved out a success story all its own. In October 2022, that second installment pulled more than $10 million at the domestic box office. For reference, "Terrifier 2" is a two-and-a-half hour long gorefest. That's no chump change for what's arguably the bloodiest slasher movie of the decade.

It all goes back to the original, however, and without "Terrifier," there would be no franchise (including the upcoming Christmas-themed "Terrifier 3"). Damien Leone first conceived of Art the Clown for the 2008 short "The 9th Circle." Art would later appear in one additional short and two anthology segments...

Terrifier double feature to be hosted by Kevin Smith at his own Smodcastle Cinemas
Image
Earlier this year, Kevin Smith purchased the movie theatre he used to go to in his youth, the Atlantic Moviehouse at 82 First Avenue in Atlantic Highlands, New Jersey, and turned it into Smodcastle Cinemas. Last month, Bill MacKay (@Barbarian_Pug on Twitter) tweeted out the idea of Smith hosting a Terrifier double feature at Smodcastle Cinemas, with director and cast Q&As… and Smith quickly turned that idea into a reality! There will indeed be a Terrifier and Terrifier 2 double feature at Smodcastle Cinemas on December 10th, starting at 7pm, and tickets are available at This Link. The price to attend the double feature will make a lot of sense to Smith fans: it’s 37 dollars.

Smith will be moderating Q&As with the cast and crew for both of the films.

On December 10th!

Come get scared shitless at @SmodCinemas when we host the cast & crew of @TerrifierFilm!

Dark Star Virtual Film Fest Review: Attack Of The Demons is an Animated Invasion from Hell
Image
When a small Colorado town is overrun by demonic creatures during the yearly music festival, three friends must band together to stop the coming apocalypse.

Sounds pretty fun, right? What if I told you that it is also gory Af? And what if I told you that it has those sweet moments of friendship and characterization that make any good movie worth watching? And Then, what if I told you that this movie is animated in the construction paper style of South Park?

I knew you would be on board. Attack of the Demons is a crazy fun animated feature from director Eric Power. It follows three friends who, by a twist of fate, wind up at the epicenter of the invasion of vicious, mutating demons brought about by a crazy cultist who reads from a cursed book to bring about the end of the world. Kevin (Thomas Petersen), Natalie...

‘Attack of the Demons’ Review
Image
Features the voices of: Andreas Petersen, Thomas Petersen, Katie Maguire, Eric Power | Written by Andreas Petersen | Directed by Eric Power

Horror and animation don’t exactly go hand in hand. I’m not exactly sure why, maybe it is because when people think of animated movies their minds always think of children’s or family movies. Even when you ink of animated horror, my mind goes to A Nightmare Before Christmas, Paranorman, Monster House or Coraline. All very entertaining movies but still aimed at children. But in recent years there have been a few more ‘adult’ horror animations with Resident Evil: Degeneration and Seoul Station, while anime has always, on a smaller scale, been pushing horror with films like Vampire Hunter D and Blood: The Last Vampire. Attack of the Demons though is very different from any of these.

This is a good thing though. It might not look as...

Attack of the Demons (2019)
Official Trailer for Funky Animated Horror Film 'Attack of the Demons'
Attack of the Demons (2019)
"Did you see that?! His head flew off!" Dark Star Pictures has released the official trailer for a homemade animation horror film titled Attack of the Demons, the latest creation from Austin, TX-based animator / filmmaker Eric Power. Direct from a notably well-received festival run (beginning at Cinepocalypse last year), and arriving in theaters this Halloween, the frighteningly-fun animated horror treat just for adults! Described as "South Park meets The Evil Dead" with a "grisly and gorgeous mix of Fulci and puppetry", the film is set in a small Colorado town that is overrun by a legion of mutating demons. Laced with a killer new soundtrack, and featuring the voices of Andreas Petersen, Thomas Petersen, Katie Maguire, as well as Eric Power, Attack of the Demons reanimates the living dead this November (on VOD). While the film's animation style looks rough, it's more of a nod to South Park, and Power...

Terrifier 2 Director Aims to Deliver One of the Most Shocking Scenes Ever
Damien Leone
Well, it looks like writer/director Damien Leone's sequel to his cult hit killer clown flick Terrifier starring David Howard Thornton as Art the Clown is officially heading our way. The movie just kicked off an IndieGoGo campaign a couple of days ago, and the film has already more than doubled its goal of $50,000 with a current total of $114,837 raised by 673 backers. Better yet is that with Terrifier 2 "adequately" financed, Leone and producer Phil Falcone will now be able to bring one particularly "epic" scene of "mass casualties" and "destruction" to the screen.

Damien Leone says of the scene in question.

"I wrote an Epic scene in the screenplay for Terrifier 2 that... without spoiling all the juicy, gory details... will involve mass casualties and the destruction of its location, But it is the context of the scene that truly makes it so original. We're aiming to create...

‘Terrifier’ VOD Review
Stars: Jenna Kanell, Catherine Corcoran, David Howard Thornton, Margaret Reed, Katie Maguire, Sylvia Ward, Gino Cafarelli, Michael Leavy, Samantha Scaffidi, Erick Zamora | Written and Directed by Damien Leone

Clowns always send alarm bells through us because there is something unnatural about them. The fake smile created by a mask that hides the true feelings underneath, it is disconcerting. Sure, they can be happy and make you laugh, but would they do the same in the middle of the night while trying to rip your head off? Terrifier poses this question in an old school gory bluntness that bashes you in just the right spots.

When Tara (Jenna Kanell) and Dawn (Catherine Corcoran) find themselves stalked by a creepy clown (David Howard Thornton) the last thing they need is for their car to break down. Finding her way into a building in need of the toilet, Tara soon finds herself once...

The Cabining: “Todd and Bruce, a hapless screenwriting team, get one last shot at success thanks to Todd’s wealthy stepdad, Serge. If they pen a worthy horror script, Serge will fund the entire project. But there is one condition – the script must be complete in two weeks. With the deadline looming and no fresh ideas, Todd and Bruce head to Shangri-La, a serene artist’s retreat, with the hope that the peace and company of fellow artists will inspire greatness… or, failing greatness, at least enough for straight-to-dvd. DVD Review: Red Canyon
Red Canyon

Guest review by Dog Ate My Wookie

Stars: Christine Lakin, Justin Hartley, Katie Maguire, Tim Draxl | Written by Giovanni Rodriguez, Laura Pratt | Directed by Giovanni Rodriguez

Justin Hartley, he’s starred in the past couple of seasons of Smallville, he’s competent in his craft and obviously he’s looking for a little more exposure but why on earth would he pick a half assed project like this?

Red Canyon is the debut feature from Director Giovanni Rodriquez. Regina and Devon are brother and sister, they return to their mother’s home town soon after her death in order to take care of her possessions. Having survived a vicious attack a year earlier, both Regina and Devon are unsure about the return to their old stomping ground and so bring along a few friends for the ride.
