Texas Frightmare Weekend 2015 Announces Screenings For 10th Anniversary Event
Since 2006, Texas Frightmare Weekend has been the place to be for horror fans in the southwest United States. From founder Loyd Cryer's humble beginnings at the Grapevine community center to its current home at the Dfw Hyatt, this is one convention that gets bigger and better every year. One thing that we at TwitchFilm don't often get a chance to talk about are conventions, because while they are very popular among horror and sci-fi fans, there's not typically a lot of news to report. Texas Frightmare Weekend is among the standouts in this regard, as they place a high priority on their screenings and getting the kind of films that horror fans want to see. This tenth anniversary event, scheduled for May 2-3, is...

Event Report: Texas Frightmare Weekend 2014
Frightmare! The premier horror convention in the Southwest has come again, and it was a riot. Well, not literally. Thankfully, massive improvements were made this year with line management of the more popular guests and parking so even when things were hot and heavy on Saturday, we never reached the critical mass found last year.

The movie and television guests were a literal who's who of icons throughout the years. The three guests of honor, Linda Blair, George A Romero, and Tobin Bell, were all busy with fans at their tables all weekend. I heard that Bell went till 1am signing on Saturday to make sure everyone was taken card of.

Having tables set up near empty walls for attendees to line up against and usage of tickets when lines got too long were big improvements. With the three guests of honor and other fan favorites such as Scott Wilson...

Event Report: Texas Frightmare Weekend 2013
A year has passed, and another Texas Frightmare Weekend has come and gone! Last year Tfw expanded dramatically with a much larger location to become the Southwest's premier horror con. This year they proved that isn't going to change anytime soon.

This con is so hot that guests have begun just showing up without an invite. Veteran character actor Glenn Morshower ("Millennium", The Crazies 2010) popped up on Friday and was set up in the lobby until Saturday, when a table was located for him in the main room. He was swamped all weekend so it's a good thing he came!

The focus of the con (which ran May 3rd-5th) was originally "The Walking Dead," but with a few cancellations (almost all replaced with other guests, some from "Twd"), the star of the Weekend became Danny "Machete" Trejo, who was mobbed every time he was at his table. The presence...

Larry Wade Carrell Talks Writing, Directing, and Acting in Jacob; DVD/Blu-ray Release Info and Exclusive Clip
At Texas Frightmare Weekend 2012, I stumbled across a little movie called Jacob (review here), and it completely blew me away. For a completely independent picture made for extremely little money, it packed an emotional punch that few mainstream horror films can pull off.

Truth be told, I've paid to see movies in the theater that display less skill and power than Jacob, and that's a damn shame, but finally someone was wise enough to pick up this gem for distribution, and as of April 16th, Jacob is out on DVD and Blu-ray for your viewing pleasure courtesy of Kino Lorber's Horizon Movies.

Jacob had a return performance at this year's Texas Frightmare Weekend to celebrate its release, and I sat down with main man Larry Carrell to chat about writing, directing, and acting in the film.

Mr. Dark: Give us the background on yourself, and what you've done so far.

Event Report: Texas Frightmare Weekend 2012
Texas Frightmare Weekend, which ran May 4-6, 2012, now bills itself as the premier con in the Southwest, and as our event report will attest, that's definitely accurate. This year the guest list was massive, around 20 films were screened, and a Carrie-themed prom was held. The film list alone was bigger than many film festivals.

Folks, we can just drop the pretenses and say what everyone should know by now: Texas is The mecca for horror in the United States.

More goes on in the horror world right here in the Lone Star State every day than anywhere else. We've got countless filmmakers, crew, writers, musicians, models, photographers, and yes, even journalists working in the horror genre than anywhere else. Period.

We also now have a massive convention every year. Texas Frightmare Weekend was always a great con, but with its new digs at the Hyatt Regency Dfw, it's expanded to extreme size.

Texas Frightmakers: Interview with Loyd Cryer
I was inspired to do this series of monthly interviews while attending last year's Texas Frightmare Weekend convention. They had a series of panels called "Texas Frightmakers", and I lifted the title as it seemed like a fantastic idea. As such, it's only right to interview the founder and bossman behind the con, Loyd Cryer.

Horror fans everywhere adore conventions. The worldwide "horror family" is tight-knit, and both horror folks and horror fans are, in my opinion, the single kindest and gregarious section of fandom out there. Texas Frightmare Weekend is headed into its seventh year with a new space and a ton of amazing guests. Loyd Cryer founded the con in 2006, and it continues to grow under his charge. By adhering to a policy of "what the fans want", it continues to shine as one of the finest places for horror fans to celebrate their bloody love for the genre.

Lucky McKee's The Woman Making Its Texas Premiere at Texas Frightmare Weekend
Lucky McKee’s The Woman has had absolutely no lack of controversy and press after its screening at Sundance this year. The movie, based on the novel by Jack Ketchum, caught massive attention after the very vocal walkout of one festival-goer at Sundance. (Dig it here)

It should come as no surprise that something from the mind of Jack Ketchum would be capable of controversy, but this is shaping up to be the showstopper. Now, visitors to the upcoming Texas Frightmare Weekend will get the chance to see a special screening of The Woman on Thursday, April 28, at 9:30 Pm. The presentation will include red carpet entrances by McGee as well as the film’s stars Pollyanna McIntosh, Sean Bridgers and Shyla Molhusen.

The screening of The Woman will be preceded by Andrew van der Houten’s Offspring at 7:00 Pm. The tale of a family of primitive cannibals that...

This April's Texas Frightmare Weekend Gearing Up to be Huge!
Texas Frightmare Weekend has established itself as one of the biggest and best conventions in the country, stacked top to bottom with some of the genre's biggest stars, and this April they're looking to tear the roof off of the place!

From the Press Release

Texas Frightmare Weekend announced Audition star Eihi Shiina and Tokyo Gore Police director and special effects artist Yoshihiro Nishimura are confirmed to attend this year’s edition of the popular horror and genre convention (April 29 – May 1). This will mark the first time that Shiina has made an appearance of this nature in the United States.

They join other high profile recent additions including influential horror and genre author and filmmaker Clive Barker (Hellraiser, Midnight Meat Train), independent filmmaking legend Roger Corman and Tom Six and Dieter Laser, the director and star of last year’s hit and much-talked about cult film The Human Centipede. In addition,...

Details on the Texas Frightmare Weekend Emerge!
Any horror fan worth his or her weight in gore should be amped up for George A. Romero’s Survival of the Dead, and if you’re planning on attending the Texas Frightmare Weekend, that’s exactly what you’re going to be seeing. That and so much more!

Tfw Film Festival 2010 will kick off Wednesday, April 28 and Thursday, April 29 at the Studio Movie Grill in Lewisville. The festival will then move to the convention site (the Sheraton Grand Hotel in Irving) Friday, April 30 and Saturday, May 1.

"We've always hosted a mini film festival during our convention," said fest director Loyd Cryer. "Recent Texas Frightmare Weekends have begun with theatrical screenings of Night of the Living Dead and Texas Chain Saw Massacre, so adding two additional nights of theatrical screenings is a natural progression."

The centerpiece selection of Tfw Film Festival 2010 is Survival of the Dead -- the sixth film...
