James Carter Cathcart, a performer best known for his voice work in the “Pokémon” franchise, died Tuesday at the age of 71.

His death was confirmed in a Facebook post on Thursday by his wife, Martha Jacobi, who wrote that he passed “peacefully” at Calvary Hospital in the Bronx. Born in 1954 in West Long Branch, New Jersey, Cathcart — aka Jimmy Zoppi — is survived by his wife Martha, as well as his daughters Nicole and Mackenzie and his son Carter.

Stassi Schroeder Reveals Why She Won't 'The Valley'
Image
Bravo's The Valley has wrapped Season 2, and although the series has been popular, some fans also feel it has been depressing. Stassi Schroeder, who previously starred on Vanderpump Rules with some of the stars of The Valley recently shared her thoughts about why she can no longer watch the show.

"I had to stop watching it. The last season, I was like 'This is great f***ing television,'" Schroeder said on a recent episode of the Disrespectfully podcast with Katie Maloney and Dayna Kathan, per Us Weekly. "Then I started the first two or three episodes of this season, and I'm like, 'This is so f***ing dark.' Indeed, some of the subject matter on the show does not make for lighthearted viewing and Schroeder has some suggestions for how production can fix this.

Star Trek actor Peter-Henry Schroeder passes away at 90
Image
Peter-Henry Schroeder, a veteran character actor best known to Star Trek fans for his role in Star Trek: Enterprise, has died at the age of 90.

According to Deadline, Schroeder passed away peacefully in early June at the Lake City Va Medical Center in Florida.

Schroeder famously appeared in the 2-part series premiere of Star Trek: Enterprise, which aired back in 2001. In the 2-part “Broken Bow” event, Schroeder played Klingon Chancellor, a high-ranking member of the Klingon race. While his role might seem small in the grand scale of the series, which ran for four seasons and nearly 100 episodes, it was an integral part of the series premiere, and those two episodes are what helped to pave the way for the show’s successful run.

In addition to his role in Star Trek: Enterprise, Schroeder lived a truly fascinating life and lived life to the fullest.

Image
Vanderpump Villa Season Two premieres Thursday, April 24th, with all 10 episodes on Hulu. There are some major changes this time around.

'Jazzy' Review: A Dreamy & Innocent Coming-of-Age Story
Image
There's a fantastic scene in Jazzy where the burgeoning adolescent protagonists discuss never wanting to grow up. You'll have to find a job, work hard, and impress your boss, or get fired, then have no money, and end up homeless. What's fun about that? The girls already understand that childhood is fleeting. Every moment of wondrous youth must be treasured. This is the simple and straightforward plot of an endearing film told with a dreamlike quality. Your heart will swell as life unfolds as it should, with friendship, love, and dawning maturity.

Filmmaker Morrisa Maltz (The Unknown Country) spent six years documenting the childhood of her goddaughter, Jasmine Bearkiller Shangreaux (affectionately nicknamed Jazzy), and her best friend, Syriah Foohead Means, in South Dakota's Oglala Lakota County, home of the Pine Ridge reservation. The story told is mostly fictional, but could easily have taken place anywhere in America. The girls, their family,...

Charlie Brown Fans, Ring In the New Year Right With These 10 Classic Peanuts Comics
Image
People like to celebrate the New Year with a bang, something the Peanuts also like to do. Just like Peanuts shows holidays like Thanksgiving and Christmas in its comic strips - including some truly classic stories - New Years is also shown annually.

Despite some of these comics being over 60 years old, these New Year's comics remain relatable to readers, whether it be Charlie Brown and Lucy not getting invited to New Year's parties, resolutions, or party fouls. The New Year's comics manage to differ from one another year after year despite the strip's fifty-year duration, while still establishing hilarious running gags. Similar to how Halloween has the running gag of the Great Pumpkin or how winter has the gag of Snoopy being someone's skating partner, Peanuts' New Year's comics have their own share of ongoing jokes.

A Charlie Brown Christmas Is Still Heartwarming 59 Years Later
Image
1965's A Charlie Brown Christmas was the first animated TV special based on the Peanuts comic strip. It would be followed by additional Peanuts holiday classics like It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown and A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving -- but it set the bar very high. In 1966, A Charlie Brown Christmas won the Emmy for Outstanding Individual Achievement in Children’s Programming. Written and created by Charles M. Schulz, A Charlie Brown Christmas is a nostalgic holiday classic that challenges the commercialization of the holiday season -- a message that is still relevant today.

A Charlie Brown Christmas follows a lost and wistful Charlie Brown, who is struggling to find his holiday spirit as those around him get swept up in the commercialization of Christmas. After he expresses his unshakable sense of sadness and dread, Lucy appoints him the director of the Christmas play to help him feel involved in the holiday festivities.

Peanuts: 10 Funniest Comics That Reference Classic Literature
Image
Given that Peanuts was a long-running comic strip, all the way from 1950 to 2000, it is no surprise that Peanuts included many pop culture references, including to classic literature. From capturing the Harry Potter fervor that was present in the late '90s to referring to some of the most famous and popular children's books, Peanuts gave readers of the past and present a window into what kids were reading at the time.

Well, for the most part, as Rerun at one point refers to quite the surprising novel, which is not the most child-friendly. Regardless, Peanuts usually focuses on the qualities of their characters and their interactions with others, as well as their reactions to situations. As a result, there were not always a lot of references to things like movies, music, and books in the comic strips. However, there still were enough comic strips referencing classic books to please any bibliophile,...

10 Funniest Peanuts Comics About Hockey
Image
Sports always played an important role in Peanuts comic strips – as did the winter months, and Charles Schulz's cartoons about ice hockey brought the best of the two together. Schulz produced countless Peanuts hockey strips over the years, with all the Peanuts Gang getting on the pond at one point or another.

Whether it was a joke of how horrible some of the Peanuts kids were at the sport, referencing iconic professional hockey players, or showing Snoopy in intense games – both imaginary and real – with other hockey players and Woodstock, hockey became a beloved aspect of winter Peanuts comic strips.

Moreover, Snoopy has not one but three alter egos that relate to hockey: World Famous Hockey Player, World Famous Hockey Coach, and the World Famous Hockey Goalie. As a result, Peanuts was pretty closely tied into the sport of hockey, especially when winter rolled around.

Goodbye to the Og ‘Vanderpump Rules,’ Bravo’s Most Chaotic Reality Show

As a reality TV fan, there is a strange (and slightly unhinged?) feeling of loss when the reality stars whose lives you’ve watched unfold for so many years step away from the camera. This is how I’ve been feeling since Bravo announced that it would be totally recasting Vanderpump Rules for Season 12. As Far As I Can Tell, One Peanuts Star Knew They Were in a Comic the Whole Time (And It's Not Who You'd Think)
Image
As I have started to become more familiar with Peanuts, it has come to my attention that one character in Charles Schulz's legendary comic strip seemingly knew he was in a cartoon the whole time: Schroeder. Peanuts only broke the fourth wall a handful of times over the years, and somehow, Schroeder always seemed to be involved.

Schroeder first acknowledged he was a comic character in an early Peanuts strip from 1952. At that point, the comic had only been running for two years of its eventual five-decade run, and in retrospect, I understand that it was still a very formative time for Schulz and his characters.

Arguably Peanuts most iconic fourth-wall break came much later, in 1990, as the strip entered its final decade and once more, Schroeder was at the center of it, in a hilariously sly bit of continuity from the long-running series.

Multiple outlets, including The Daily Mail and Page Six, report that Rhobh alum Teddi Mellencamp allegedly cheated repeatedly on husband Edwin Arroyave.

The alleged sidepiece, both outlets report, was Simon Schroeder. Interestingly, Schroeder works as Teddi Mellencamp’s horse trainer.

He shares two children with his wife, Karli Postel. Neither of whom seemed eager to publicly weigh in on the allegations when the news broke.

10 Funniest Peanuts Comics That Just Turned 50 (The Complete Saga of Lucy Destroying Schroeder's Piano)
Image
In the fifty years of Peanuts' publication, Charles Schulz found daring ways to experiment with the format and elevate his stories beyond their initial simplistic structure. A major change came when Schulz began to implement longer story arcs into his work. At first, narratives were condensed to a single strip, but some had enough comedic potential to be mined for jokes over the course of an entire month.

October 1974 features one such story, starring none other than Lucy van Pelt. During this month, Lucy and Schroeder took center stage, as her one-sided crush on him reached a breaking point, leading to one of the strip's most memorable longer storylines.

For as long as she fawned over him, Schroeder hardly ever paid Lucy any mind, and in the fall of '74, her latest method of winning him over was downright hysterical. Without further ado, here are the 10 funniest Peanuts comics that just turned fifty.

2 of The Peanuts' Greatest Running Gags Originated in This 58-Year-Old Special
Image
Charles M. Schulz's Peanuts was a one-of-a-kind comic strip that perfectly translated into on-screen animated specials. The strip was immensely popular, having been published in thousands of newspapers over its 50-year run. Schulz worked on the franchise for most of his life, and that extended to the eventual development of 51 productions of those beloved animated specials. Without Schulz's groundbreaking work, they never would have reached as many households and brought as many smiles as they did.

With so many years of comic strips behind every idea in the specials, even the earliest appearance of each running gag is a delightful depiction. That is why it is so fascinating that the Halloween special It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown proved to be such a defining element for the franchise. It brought elements from the comic strip to life for the first time, putting them on-screen for all the world to see.

Peanuts' Funniest Pig-Pen Joke Just Turned 70 (& It Shows How Smart Charles Schulz Really Was)
Image
Pig-Pen is one of the most iconic members of the Peanuts gang, and one of the oldest. Indeed, Pig-Pen has been making readers laugh since 1954, introduced a mere four years after Peanuts first entered syndication. Throughout that time, the famously filthy Peanuts character has been at the center of many jokes. However, arguably none of them can compare to one running gag thats as old as he is, mostly because it shows just how smart the creator of Peanuts, Charles M. Schulz, really was.

In a series of four Peanuts comic strips, Charles M. Schultz tells one long joke with Pig-Pen right at the center of it. And its absolutely hilarious, even by todays standards.

In the Peanuts comic strip published September 8, 1954, Patty is scolding Pig-Pen for how dirty he is. She tells him that no one will admire him if he doesnt clean himself up, and hell essentially...

10 Funniest Peanuts Comics That Just Turned 50
Image
There is no shortage of iconic characters in Peanuts. While the likes of Charlie Brown, Snoopy, and Woodstock are probably the most recognizable, they are far from the only reasons to read the comic strip, as even hard-side characters in this franchise are utterly hilarious. And above them all, one stands as the single weirdest character, and they are prominently featured in the crop of Peanuts comics published in September 1974.

50 years ago, almost the entire month of September in Peanuts history was dedicated to the most peculiar character Charles M. Schulz ever brought to the strip: School Building. In Peanuts lore, the school the Peanuts gang attends is actually alive, and every once in a while, it interacts with the students. And, in September 1974, School Building might as well have become a member of the Peanuts gang itself - and its as hilarious as it is absurd (and slightly terrifying...

Recently, there has been growing concern about unhealthy body image representation among male actors, particularly those in action and superhero roles who face pressure to look like their comic book counterparts.

Hugh Jackman and Henry Cavill have both faced criticism in this regard. Cavill was criticized for his dehydration methods during the filming of Man of Steel, while Jackman has been scrutinized for his strict diet regimen to maintain a lean physique in his 50s for his role as Wolverine in Deadpool & Wolverine.

Although we know that the physiques we see on screen result from more than just diets and workouts, hearing a medical expert’s perspective adds a new dimension, according to Dr. Todd Schroeder, associate professor of clinical physical therapy and director of the USC Clinical Exercise Research Center, speaking to Variety, achieving such physiques may be nearly impossible.

Though forbidden by sports leagues, many steroid treatments are perfectly legal.

Shocking Estimate: Half of Marvel Actors Allegedly Use Performance-Enhancing Drugs for Muscle Gains!
Image
In recent times there’s been a lot of discussion regarding unhealthy body image representation among male actors. Primarily action stars and superhero movies stars who are often under pressure to look like their very superhuman counterparts ripped from the pages of comics.

Both Hugh Jackman and Henry Cavill have found themselves as the target of criticism, Cavill for his dehydration strategy in ‘Man of Steel’ and Jackman for his rigorous diet to maintain a lean physique in his 50s to portray Wolverine in the ‘Deadpool & Wolverine.’

While we are aware that the bodies we see on screen are a product of much more than just diets and workouts, it hits differently when you get a medical perspective on it, and if Dr. Todd Schroeder, associate professor of clinical physical therapy and director of the University of Southern California Clinical Exercise Research Center at the USC Division of Biokinesiology and Physical Therapy,...

Stassi Schroeder in L'Expérience interdite (2017)
Reality television personality Stassi Schroeder will appear in the second season of the Hulu show “Vanderpump Villa.” Schroeder previously starred in “Vanderpump Rules” for eight seasons but left the show in 2020 after past racist remarks surfaced online. Since then, she has focused on personal growth.

Schroeder got her start as an original cast member on “Vanderpump Rules,” which follows the staff at Lisa Vanderpump’s restaurants in West Hollywood. The show became hugely popular but Schroeder’s time on it ended when offensive past comments she made became public, leading to her firing.

In the years since, Schroeder has worked to educate herself. She co-hosts a podcast with her husband and has authored multiple books. She also runs her own podcast called “Stassi” where she discusses her life. On social media, Schroeder regularly posts about her family and growing brand.

“Vanderpump Villa” is a “Vanderpump Rules” spin-off that debuted on Hulu last year.

Margaret Menegoz Dies: Michael Haneke, Éric Rohmer & Wim Wenders Producer Was 83
Image
Margaret Menegoz, who led iconic French film company Les Films du Losange for close to 50 years, producing the films of Éric Rohmer, Michael Haneke and Wim Wenders among others, has died at the age of 83.

The German and French film producer was born in Hungary in 1941. Her family, which was of German origin, was expelled from the country in the wake of the 1945 Siege of Budapest, and Menegoz grew up in Germany.

She took the reins of Les Films du Losange in 1975, having been originally hired as an assistant on co-founder Rohmer’s 1976 German-language film Marquise Of O, co-starring Edith Clever and Bruno Ganz.

Stassi Schroeder Joins ‘Vanderpump Villa’ Season 2 and Lands Her Own Reality Show at Hulu
Image
Former “Vanderpump Rules” star Stassi Schroeder has been cast in Season 2 of Hulu’s “Vanderpump Villa” alongside her former Sur boss, Lisa Vanderpump. In addition to joining the show’s cast, Schroeder has also signed a deal with the streamer, and her first project is developing a comedic half-hour docuseries called “Stassi Says.”

Schroeder’s return to the “Vanderverse” comes as somewhat of a surprise. She and fellow “Vanderpump Rules” star Kristen Doute were fired from “Vanderpump Rules” in 2020 for racist actions against their former castmate Faith Stowers. In 2018, after seeing a photo in the Daily Mail of a Black woman wanted for robbery in Los Angeles, Schroeder and Doute reported Stowers to police, but the woman in the article turned out not to be Stowers.

Two years later, Stowers made the situation public after describing what had happened over an Instagram Live chat. Schroeder and Doute were fired from “Vanderpump Rules” shortly after.

Stars: Bridget Fonda, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Steven Weber, Peter Friedman, Stephen Tobolowsky, Frances Bay | Written by John Lutz, Don Roos | Directed by Barbet Schroeder

Single White Female, directed by Barbet Schroeder and starring Bridget Fonda and Jennifer Jason Leigh, is a psychological thriller that not only captivated audiences with its tense narrative and compelling performances but also marked a significant point in the female-villain-led thrillers of the 1990s, taking what was originally a more direct-to-market “erotic thriller” (from filmmakers like Jag Mundhra) and making it mainstream, leading to a proliferation of similar films through the decade from filmmakers looking to cash-in… and it made a superstar out of actress Bridget Fonda.

The film centres on Allie Jones (Bridget Fonda), a software designer who, after discovering her fiancé’s infidelity, seeks a new roommate. She finds one in Hedra “Hedy” Carlson (Jennifer Jason Leigh), whose initially shy and supportive demeanour slowly...

“Not A Normal Year”: CNN’s Biden-Trump Debate Puts Added Pressure On Moderators Jake Tapper And Dana Bash To Meet The Moment
Image
When asked recently what he thought should be the first question at CNN’s Joe Biden-Donald Trump presidential debate on Thursday, ABC News’ George Stephanopoulos had a succinct answer: “Who won the last election?”

The moment speaks to how unusual this debate will be — and the challenge for moderators Jake Tapper and Dana Bash.

That has been apparent in recent days given the attacks coming from Trump and his allies, who have gone after Tapper and Bash as CNN figures who are biased against Maga. On Monday, the situation reached the point where the network issued a statement defending the two.

The pre-debate CNN bashing coming from Team Trump, though, is hardly a surprise, as he has lambasted the moderators in the past two election cycles.

More vexing for the moderators may be just what questions to ask, and how and when to ask them. The times demand...

Designing The Helicarrier In Marvel's Avengers Was An 'Exhaustive Process'
Image
We may receive a commission on purchases made from links.

It's been more than 10 years since "The Avengers" redefined blockbuster filmmaking, which isn't actually all that long considering that in that time Marvel Studios has managed to go from the pre-eminent producer of box office hits to a studio struggling to overcome so-called superhero fatigue. That is to say that, with the kind of gargantuan success Marvel Studios saw, it's hard to remember a time when the company wasn't around. 2012's "The Avengers" seems like it belongs to a bygone era when the hordes eagerly swarmed the multiplex, giddy with excitement for the next superhero offering from the studio.

In a sense, the film does belong to a bygone era. 2023 was the moment when everyone realized that superhero movies needed to take a nice long break, and nothing has really been the same since. Still, it's odd to think that...

10 Funniest Peanuts Comics That Just Turned 30
Image
The 1990s was the final decade Peanuts ran in syndication; these strips from 1994 prove that the iconic series didn't lose a step, even as it was winding down. These ten strips encapsulate many of Peanuts' classic gags, along with the most recognizable quirks and eccentricities of the beloved gang. From Snoopy, to Sally, to Lucy and Schroeder, the '90s offered as many hilarious Peanuts punchlines as any of the preceding decades of its publication.

Peanuts has been an icon of American culture for over half-a-centruy. Practically everyone is familiar with its characters, especially Charlie Brown and Snoopy. First published in the 1950s, the '90s proved to be the last decade Peanuts had new comic strips but up until the very end, creator Charles Schulz' strip didn't miss a beat, delivering the classic humor it became synonymous with.

The 1990s saw the continuation of many fan favorite running gags,...

Michael Keaton Wishes He Never Worked Out To Play Batman, And Jack Nicholson Is To Blame
Image
Ripped action stars have been around since the '80s when Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sylvester Stallone battled it out to see who had the bigger muscles, the most guns, and who could beat up the most bad guys. These days, being in peak physical shape for a role is pretty much the norm. Unfortunately, this has meant many actors feel more pressure than ever to get in the best possible shape, often leading them to follow dodgy and dangerous methods in pursuit of the ideal movie star physique.

For example, it's been reported that Marvel molds actors into superhero shape using a controversial source. Health expert Dr. Todd Schroeder, who was interviewed for the book "MCU: The Reign of Marvel Studios," claimed that "fifty to seventy-five percent" of Marvel Cinematic Universe actors take steroids or other performance-enhancing drugs (PEDs), "at least for the short term." In the book, Dr. Schroeder...
