Sudipto Sen
- Director

- Producer
The idea that a young boy from the rural area of northeastern India and a tiny hamlet Jalpaiguri, could become a filmmaker took root in Sudipto just after finishing his final school exam. It was a bizarre dream considering his background, yet one he felt with every breath.
Studying Physics in the beginning, Applied Psychology in the middle and then Film school... allowed him to learn and infuse courage for "making of cinema". It also taught him how to tell a story and use of the camera as a pen.
His work raised to national acclaim on his experimental documentary film THE OTHER WEALTH. "It was my personal journey to a land, which had been taken over by land mafias in the vicinity of Calcutta." It was at this point that his life took a major turn, as it had selected in several international film festivals and Sudipto received over-night success. Shortly thereafter he signed a long-term contract with THE WORLD BANK films based on their activities in Southeast Asia. Sudipto, who is a trained mountaineer who was a traveler at heart, got opportunity to travel more than 200,000-Km to the remotest corners of Indian subcontinent. He notes this time of his life as the most remarkable phase where he gets to see his dream of Akhand Bharat.
1997 to 2003 marked his busiest time as filmmaker but he soon grew restless and sought to make his first independent feature film in the year 2006, THE LAST MONK. This decision led to many awards, international film festival appearances and opportunities. THE LAST MONK celebrated its World Premiere at the 2006 Cannes Film Festival selection. Thereafter screened at over 27-film festivals around the world, winning numerous awards. Including Rotterdam International Film Festival, Raindance and Singapore International Film Festival.
Sudipto's another work AKHNOOR (A French Co Production) which won the BEST FILM AWARD at the Golden Gate Film Festival, the INTEGRATED REALIZATION AWARD at Brussels International Film Festival, SPECIAL JURY AWARD at the San Francisco Film Festival and SPECIAL CIVILIAN AWARD from the Belgium Government among others. CORENTIN'S QUEST (French Co Production) and Malayalam film ANTHIPONNOVETTAM (German Co Production) also mark as his recent works.
During 2015 - 2019, Sudipto worked on two independent Hindi feature film AASMA and LUCKNOW TIMES. Due to pandemic the release of both the film got delayed. Set to release towards the end of the year.
Sudipto's recent directorial venture THE KERALA STORY within 10-days of the release announced as "Unprecedented Blockbuster" by Indian cinema Industry with INR 400-Cr Box office collection.
Another recent Hindi Feature film BASTAR: The Naxal Story is now taking the world in task on the issue of Maoist Movement and revolutionary peasant movement and dangerously abysmal human right index in the state of Chhattisgarh, India. Both THE KERLA STORY and BASTAR are now available in ZEE5 OTT platform, positioning among top 10-OTT movies for months.
In 2018 Sudipto made a controversial documentary film IN THE NAME OF LOVE - Melancholy of God's own country! It is on religious conversion and "Love Jihad"! This film got Best Film Award at LONDON INDEPENDENT FILM FESTIVAL. His documentary KRANTDARSHI GURUJI (GURU JI - AHEAD OF TIME). A film on Sculptor-visionary Guruji Ravindra Sharma. This film got prestigious 67-th National Film Award 2021.
Another recent documentary GURUJANA was selected in Indian Panorama section of prestigious IFFI'67.
Presently, Sudipto is working in few extremely important projects. Those who have seen his work and felt the ardent passion for filmmaking, know that this is an accomplishment well within the reach of his soul.
Thank you!
