Ty built his career under the mentorship of Hollywood legends, including Steven Spielberg (War of the Worlds), Tom Shadyac (Evan Almighty), and Jon Turteltaub (National Treasure: Book of Secrets). At 19, he snuck onto the set of Evan Almighty and was hired into the camera department, earning the nickname "stowaway" as he was mentored by department heads across the production. His collaboration with Shadyac led to further training in directing at Shadyac's Universal backlot production office, while his ongoing partnership with Turteltaub has resulted in the development of multiple feature films.
A graduate of USC's School of Cinematic Arts with an MFA in Directing, Ty has created award-winning projects, including the short film Check Out, which premiered at Grauman's Chinese Theatre, and relief documentaries for humanitarian organizations in Kenya and Ghana. He is also a runner-up in the Austin Film Festival screenwriting competition and was shortlisted for the Sundance Screenwriters Lab.
