Sterling K. Brown Teases “Wildly Entertaining” ‘Voltron’ Movie From Amazon MGM Studios At Comic-Con, Says He Would Jump On A Sequel
Image
When Sterling K. Brown isn’t portraying the astute and grief-stricken Secret Service agent Xavier Collins in Hulu’s Paradise, the actor (recently nominated for his sixth Lead Actor in a Drama Series Emmy for the role) was filming Amazon MGM Studios’ live-action film adaptation of Voltron.

Speaking at a San Diego Comic-Con panel for the political thriller opposite series creator Dan Fogelman, the three-time Emmy-winning Brown took a moment to tease the upcoming movie, also starring Rita Ora, John Kim, Daniel Quinn-Toye and Henry Cavill.

“Rawson Marshall Thurber is the director, the screenwriter. I think he’s come up with a really wonderful vision to reintroduce something that we grew up with in the ’80s to the 2027 crowd,” Brown told the audience. “It’s heartfelt. It is big. It’s big, bodacious and dynamic, and that’s why it takes probably about 48 weeks of post-production to finish the thing off and get it together.

Henry Cavill's Voltron movie got the exciting update we were waiting for
Image
With Superman flying into theaters on July 11, many DC fans are missing seeing Henry Cavill on our screens. And, as quiet as it has been kept, his live-action adaption of the Japanese super robot anime series Voltron has just recently wrapped production.

Producer of the film Bob Koplar recently confirmed that the film had wrapped production via the Voltron handle on Instagram, which left fans excited about the upcoming adaptation.

Henry Cavill’s Live-Action 'Voltron' Movie May Not Have a Theatrical Release Despite Having a Star-Studded Cast
Image
The live-action adaptation of Voltron, starring Henry Cavill, is bound to make its way to Prime Video anytime soon. Filming for the sci-fi feature began in December 2024, and it won't be long till a release date is announced. But according to the latest reports, this star-studded feature, which includes the talents of Rita Ora, Sterling K. Brown, and John Kim, will be a streaming exclusive.

In April 2025, Prime Video released a statement that it plans to release 14 movies in 2026 and noted that the streaming giant has brought out "five to eight" movies per year in the past. But despite their commitment to bringing their exclusives to the cinema, it was recently reported that there are no plans to bring the Voltron movie to theaters and that it will be a Prime Video exclusive.

Amazon & Henry Cavill's 'Voltron' Movie Will Reportedly Go Straight To Streaming
Image
Former Man of Steel and The Witcher, Henry Cavill, has several major projects in the works for Amazon. One such project is the live-action Voltron movie which, despite being something with major blockbuster potential, could suffer a somewhat unceremonious streaming fate.

No release date has yet been revealed for the Voltron adaptation, but the movie has amassed a star-studded cast for director Rawson Marshall Thurber’s sci-fi action outing. Despite all this, a new report (via GameRant) claims that Amazon is not planning to release Voltron in theaters, and will instead give the movie a straight-to-streaming release, much like Jake Gyllenhaal and Doug Liman’s Road House remake last year.

The insight claims that, with filming having wrapped last month, Amazon is now looking to release Voltron “straight to their Prime Video streaming service,” and thus go back on their previous “commitment to theatrical exhibition.” This is sure to be...

Before The Pitt, Noah Wyle Launched An Epic Made-For-tv Fantasy Franchise
Image
Some actors are, for whatever reason, best suited to television stardom. There's no clear reason why folks like Tom Selleck, Kate Jackson, or Ted Danson couldn't be movie stars, but once you've had a long-running success on the small screen, viewers closely associate you with quality TV. So when they join the cast of a new series, networks and streamers can be fairly certain that a built-in fan base will be joining them.

In terms of television drawing power, few actors have been more reliable over the last 30 years than Noah Wyle. Though George Clooney was the breakout star of "ER" when it premiered on NBC in 1994, it didn't take long for viewers to fall in love with Dr. John Carter, the wet-behind-the-ears medical student who rose through the institutional ranks of Cook County General Hospital over 11 unforgettable seasons. Wyle could've dipped out of "ER" and made a go out of it in film,...

Magenta Light Studios plans a theatrical release for Renny Harlin shark thriller Deep Water
Image
Back in 2023, we heard that Gene Simmons of the rock band Kiss would be launching a new production company with Gary Hamilton (so the company is appropriately called Simmons/Hamilton Productions), and the first project they had given the greenlight was a shark thriller called Deep Water – with Deep Blue Sea director Renny Harlin attached to take the helm of the film! That film has since made its way through production, and Deadline reports that Magenta Light Studios, the distributor behind last year’s Strange Darling, has acquired the domestic rights to Deep Water, with plans to give it a theatrical release sometime in 2025.

Scripted by Pete Bridges and John Kim, Deep Water centers on an eclectic group of international passengers whose plane, en route from Los Angeles to Shanghai, is forced to make an emergency landing in shark-infested waters. The terrified group is forced to work together and overcome...

James Woods in Shark (2006)
Deep Water | Deep Blue Sea director Renny Harlin’s latest shark film is due out in 2025
James Woods in Shark (2006)
Shark action specialist Renny Harlin is back this year with Deep Water, starring Aaron Eckhart. It now has a distributor in the US, and set for release in 2025.

Filming wrapped on Deep Water, the latest movie from action director Renny Harlin, in February 2024. Almost exactly a year later, it’s been announced that it now has a US distributor: Magenta Light Studios, which put out last year’s excellent horror thriller, Strange Darling. Deep Water is now set for release in US cinemas this year, which potentially means a UK appearance won’t be too far behind.

The disaster thriller sees Harlin return to the realm of sharks, having previously directed the batty cult favourite Deep Blue Sea in 1999. Starring Aaron Eckhart and Ben Kingsley, Deep Water (not to be confused with the saucy Adrian Lyne film of the same title) is about an LA to Shanghai plane journey that goes awry,...

Marvel has potentially cast a major star as "new" MCU villain
Image
Glistening from her latest step-and-repeat at the 2024 Fashion Awards inside London's prestigious Royal Albert Hall, Rita Ora may have made headlines for a completely different reason. According to UK tabloid The Sun, Ora was enjoying casual conversation when something other than fashion talk was overheard.

“A friend of mine was rubbing shoulders with the singer at the British Fashion Awards when they overheard Rita chatting about her new role,” the article reads. “They told me: ‘Rita was dressed like a baddie from a Marvel film, and when someone commented on it, she let slip she has a part in a new Marvel film. She confirmed she had landed the role of someone evil and that she was super excited about getting stuck into it.’”

The potential reveal has definitely caught some fans off-guard, as no Marvel Cinematic Universe outing has yet to confirm Ora as part of its cast. But...

Voltron: Cast, Story & Everything We Know About The Live-Action Movie
Image
The classic '80s animated series Voltron is coming to the big screen in an all-new live-action Hollywood adaptation, and here's everything to know about the upcoming movie. The American cartoon series debuted in 1984 and used footage from the Japanese anime series Beast King Go-Lion (dubbed into English). The basic premise concerns a group of space explorers who pilot a gigantic robot known as Voltron, as they take on various threats throughout the galaxy. Taking advantage of the giant robot craze of the '80s, Voltron quickly became a multimedia franchise across the globe.

Muscling into the territory of franchises like Transformers, the original Voltron series ran for 124 episodes, but things didn't stop there. Voltron would return in several spinoff shows in the '90s and 2000s before enjoying an 8-season run (between 2016 and 2018) in Voltron: Legendary Defender. Even though comic books, video games, and an abundance of toys helped to expand the lore,...

Prime Video's 'Cruel Intentions' Series Ending, Explained
Image
As Hollywood continues to remake past hits, it's no surprise that the '90s cult classic Cruel Intentions is now a Prime Video series. Starring Sarah Catherine Hook (First Kill), Zac Burgess (Boy Swallows Universe), and Savannah Lee Smith (Gossip Girl), this adaptation of the unforgettably devious 1999 film and Pierre Choderlos de Laclos's novel retells the sultry story of a bet between two wealthy and dysfunctional step-siblings in a modern-day setting.

Hook takes on the viciously manipulative Caroline Merteuil, inspired by Sarah Michelle Gellar's Kathryn, alongside Burgess, who acts as her playboy step-brother Lucien, based on Ryan Phillippe's selfish and brooding Sebastian. Caught in the middle of their mind games is Smith's Annie Grover, the inexperienced daughter of the U.S. Vice President, who's reminiscent of Reese Witherspoon's virginal Annette Hargrove.

Although the teen romantic drama pulls inspiration from the originals, the show stands on its own.

December 7 Is an Upsetting Day for Voltron Fans
Image
Netflix has shared disappointing news for fans of the Voltron franchise. The streaming service's critically acclaimed Voltron: Legendary Defender reboot will be removed from the platform next week.

DreamWorks and Netflix's Voltron: Legendary Defender premiered in 2016 and released 78 episodes over 8 seasons. The final season of the animated series aired on Netflix in December 2018. Earlier this year, it was reported that the Voltron reboot series would be departing from Netflix, with the official Voltron Instagram account responding and saying, "Discussions are ongoing. When we know, you'll know." It appears as if negotiations to keep the show on Netflix fell through, and it remains uncertain where (or even if) fans will have a way to legally stream the series in the future. Voltron: Legendary Defender will be removed from Netflix on Dec. 6.
