The Orchard has just released the first trailer for The Canal, four months after the studio acquired this upcoming thriller. Rupert Evans stars as David, a film archivist who learns that his home was the site of a terrifying murder at the turn of the century. As David's family life starts to crumble, he begins to suspect sinister, supernatural forces are tearing his world apart.

The Orchard, a pioneering independent music, film and video distribution company and top-ranked McN, has acquired all U.S. and Canadian rights to writer/director Ivan Kavanagh's psychological horror feature, The Canal. The film, which premiered globally at this week's 2014 Tribeca Film Festival, will be released through The Orchard's horror film brand, Shock Till You Drop. It stars Rupert Evans and Antonia Campbell-Hughes, with Hannah Hoekstra, Kelly Byrne and Steve Oram.
Here's what Park Films producer AnneMarie Naughton had to say about the distribution deal in a statement.

'Good Vibrations', 'The Girl with the Mechanical Maiden' and 'Citadel' Win Big At Galway Film Fleadh
Irish films 'Good Vibrations', 'The Girl with the Mechanical Maiden' and 'Citadel' were among the big winners as the 24th Galway Film Fleadh closed last night with the announcement of its annual awards. Mark O'Connor's 'Stalker' received second place in the Audience Award category for Best Irish Feature. Writer, director and cinematographer Andrew Legge picked up The Tiernan McBride Award for Best Short Drama for his film 'The Girl with the Mechanical Maiden'. 'The Wire' star Dominic West features alongside Serena Brabazon and Ingrid Craigie. Legge wrote and directed the short, with Ciara Whelan producing. Other winners included Art O'Briain's 'Natural Grace'; Hannah Patterson won the Galway Film Fleadh Pitching Award with her idea for 'Resistance', and feature film 'Pilgrim Hill' won director Gerard Barrett the Bingham Ray New Talent Award.

The new trailer for Roadside Attractions and director Rodrigo Garcia's drama "Albert Nobbs" is now online. Glenn Close is Albert Nobbs, a woman dressed as a man, trying to fit in unrecognised, in a male dominated 19th Century Irish business. Judging from the trailer and early reaction to the film, I would hardly be surprised to see Glenn Close up for acting gongs over the upcoming awards season.
