Up to this point in Nine Perfect Strangers season 2, Martin seemed like just a research assistant to Masha. Well, we learn in Nine Perfect Strangers season 2 episode 7 that there is a much deeper connection to Helena, Masha, and much more.
Caution: This post contains Spoilers for Nine Perfect Strangers season 2 episode 7.
We start Nine Perfect Strangers season 2 episode 7 in the past. This seems to be around the time Martin went to speak with Masha at the very beginning of the season. It turns out that Helena was Martin’s mom, and she wanted to leave the estate to both Martin and Masha, seeing the work that Masha was doing as something worthy of the family’s money.
Well, Martin wasn’t happy about this. He viewed Masha as a pariah, only after everything when Helena was on her deathbed. He didn’t see that Masha knew that the estate had to go to Martin.

Schitt’s Creek Thought It Could Casually Slide in Alexis’ Date With an Oscar-Winner and We’d Miss It
Schitt’s Creek is a great example of brilliant comedic writing, but it also excels at something a little more subtle- placing blink-and-you-miss pop culture nuggets that feel like the best rewards to eagle-eyed audiences. One such gem? Alexis Rose name-dropping an Oscar-winning star she once went on a blind date with.
Apparently, when she wasn’t running from Thai druglords or Saudi princes, Alexis found the time to grace Leo with her presence on a blind date to Bali. The kicker, though, is how offhandedly the show drops the line. You’d think it was a throwaway remark, but if you love Schitt’s Creek, you’d know all about Alexis’ star-studded dating roster. Let’s talk about how this subtle name-drop deepens the show’s satire, proving that the writers were well aware of what they were doing.

[Warning: The following post contains Major spoilers for Nine Perfect Strangers Episode 6, “The Other Side.”] Well, it looks like Masha (Nicole Kidman) has been haunted by more than one ghost this season on Nine Perfect Strangers. Not only is her daughter lurking around in the shadows (of her mind), but it turns out her Zauberwald mentor Helena (Lena Olin) is also dead and living on only in her imagination. The episode begins with Masha reflecting on the breakthrough she had with David (Mark Strong) as Helena urges her to forgive him for what he did to her and her daughter. Forgiveness isn’t only hers to give David, though, and she decides to spend the day working Matteo (Aras Aydin). We then learn, with excruciating imagery, that Matteo’s entire family was murdered in a drone strike guided by the satellite Imogen’s (Annie Murphy) father created. He was treated in a field hospital by none other than...

I am feeling more and more sorry for Martin in Nine Perfect Strangers season 2 episode 6, as it’s clear Masha is disregarding everything. It also turns out that her break from reality is more severe than we first realized.
Caution: This post contains Spoilers for Nine Perfect Strangers season 2 episode 6.
As Nine Perfect Strangers season 2 is over the halfway mark, a few answers to our burning questions need to come out. One of those is why Matteo has ended up at the retreat. It turns out that he’s not there just for Victoria.
However, Victoria does have a secret illness, and it’s time for Imogen to learn the truth. Sadly, it could be too little too late for her to make amends with her mother after years of struggle.

Did you love Mike White's globe-trotting HBO "anthology" series "The White Lotus" but wish it starred Nicole Kidman in a series of increasingly baffling wigs? You're in luck! That show exists, kind of!
Fans of "The White Lotus," a mystery show set in beautiful and far-flung locales including Hawai'i, Italy, and Thailand, should definitely check out "Nine Perfect Strangers," the second season of which is airing on the streamer weekly as I write this. Lots of folks are already checking it out: According to FlixPatrol, it's sitting in the number four slot in Hulu's top 10 TV shows as of June 13, 2025.
Based on a best-selling book by Liane Moriarty (more on her shortly), the series stars Oscar and Emmy winner Kidman as Masha Dmitrichenko, a woman hailing from Russia who's famous for her wellness center, Tranquillum House, in California. In both seasons, nine people show up at her center...

When actress Mira Sorvino thinks about what and who helped her launch her career, she credits Tribeca Festival co-founder Jane Rosenthal for giving her that break.
“Jane Rosenthal actually gave me my first job in the industry. It started off being a volunteer position — I was an intern at Tribeca Productions, reading scripts. Then it turned into a paid position as a reader after they ended up liking my coverage. I did that for two years, and during that time I actually read the script Amongst Friends that ended up being the first feature that I ever starred in. We went to Sundance and that launched my career,” the actress recalled. “Tribeca helped me start my career, and it’s always given a hand up to young artists and people who had the gumption to just go for it.”

Tribeca Film Festival co-founder and recent Variety cover star Jane Rosenthal hosted the annual Through Her Lens: The Tribeca Chanel Women’s Filmmaker Program luncheon with the legacy fashion house on June 6.
Miley Cyrus attended just hours before her world premiere of “Something Beautiful,” The project places the pop-music icon in the director’s chair along with Jacob Bixenman and Brendan Walter.
“Throughout my career, my story has been told from so many lenses outside of myself and from so many perspectives outside of myself. I’ve been shot by so many photographers and directors and never been able to actually get behind the lens and see myself in the way that I do,” Cyrus told Variety on the carpet. “That’s something that makes it feel like really special and really intimate because I’ve never really gotten to actually tell my story in a way that really is this first person.

After starting the “treatments” in the previous episode, Nine Perfect Strangers season 2 episode 4 continues the emotional breakdowns and development for each of the characters. A lot of the focus for this episode is on Tina, but we also get more insight into Brian, Imogen, and Peter.
Caution: This post contains Spoilers for Nine Perfect Strangers season 2 episode 4.
While all this goes on, Masha continues to blur between the lines of memories and fantasy. She struggles with the past, and it’s clear that she’s obsessing over David. However, there is still a glaring question about how David is connected to Masha and Tatiana.
Nine Perfect Strangers - “First Look” - Nine new strangers connected in ways they could never imagine are invited by mysterious guru, Masha Dmitrichenko (Nicole Kidman), to join a transformational wellness retreat in the Austrian Alps. Over the course of a week, she takes them to the brink.

Musician King Princess’ acting debut in Season 2 of Hulu’s Nine Perfect Strangers comes to the forefront of the series in the latest episode, which marks the halfway point.
As one of the nine new cast visiting Masha Dimitrichenko’s new wellness retreat Zauberwald, this time set in the Austrian Alps, Princess’ character Tina comes to the retreat at the invitation of her girlfriend Wolfie (Maise Richardson-Sellers), who hopes to help the stifled artist work through some trauma surrounding playing the piano. The ennui becomes more significant and apparent when viewers learn that Tina was a child prodicy musician.
“For Tina, it goes back, deep. This is not just about piano. This is about identity. This is about feeling like you don’t have any self-worth aside from one skill, like this skill determines everything that’s important about you,...

After having a blast with Marvel‘s Thunderbolts* and counting the days until The Fantastic Four: First Steps lands in theaters on July 25, 2025, Marvel Studios is ready to reveal that an actor from one of my favorite sitcoms, Schitt’s Creek, will play E.D.I.T.H. in the upcoming Disney+ series Vision. Marvel proudly welcomes Emily Hampshire to the MCU!

I never knew how much I needed a show like Kevin Can F**k Himself until Rashida Jones helped bring it to life. Let’s be honest, sitcoms have not been kind to wives. For decades, we’ve watched beautiful, smart, and endlessly patient wives through their husbands’ antics, while we’re told it is funny because he’s just a guy being a guy.
But what happens when that wife gets tired of laughing? That’s exactly the question Kevin Can F**k Himself dares to answer with a sharp reply. Produced by Jones and created by Valerie Armstrong, this AMC series is everything I hoped someone like Modern Family‘s Sofia Vergara would take on after Gloria. It finally gives the sitcom wife a voice that viewers like me have long wanted.

The first three episodes of Nine Perfect Strangers Season 2 have now aired, and the poor initial critical response to the series is reflected by a disgruntled viewership. The series, based on The New York Times best-selling book by Liane Moriarty, wrapped up the author's work in its opening season, seeing the announcement of a second season met with confusion. Still, the return of Nicole Kidman's mysterious Masha Dmitrichenko and a brand-new batch of strangers could perhaps rectify the opening outing's poor reception, with Season 1 holding a 59% rating from both critics and audiences.
Alas, the second season has achieved the opposite, with its terrible critics' score now accompanied by a poor 54% from audiences, marking a 5% decrease from Season 1. In a small break of sun in the stormy cloud that hangs over Nine Perfect Strangers' heads, after three episodes, the critics' score that first landed at 38% is now up to 41%, although...

Four years after “Nine Perfect Strangers” first debuted in 2021, the Hulu series is back for another installment, with Nicole Kidman at the helm.
Kidman reprises her role as wellness guru Masha Dmitrichenko, whose unique therapy method — drugging her guests with magic mushrooms without their knowledge — caused quite a lot of drama, and likewise, much self-discovery for guests of her wellness retreat in Season 1. Masha returns in a wintry new locale for Season 2 with a new group of guests, played by Annie Murphy, Henry Golding and Christine Baranski, to name a few.

While Hulu series “Nine Perfect Strangers” used Liane Moriarty’s novel of the same name as the backbone of the Nicole Kidman-led series, Season 2 prompted the team — led by creator David E. Kelley — to go off-book as they crafted the second act of Nicole Kidman’s Masha Dmitrichenko.
Moriarty, who did not write a follow-up book to “Nine Perfect Strangers,” gave the team her blessing for a second installment of the series, which was renewed by Hulu for a Season 2 in June 2023, well after Season 1 first premiered in 2021. And since “Nine Perfect Strangers” first premiered nearly four years ago, EP Bruna Papandrea noted psilocybin (a.k.a. magic mushrooms) have been embraced tenfold, opening the door for countless stories unlocking past traumas.
“There’s no underlying material at all, no ongoing story,” Papandrea told TheWrap, noting that Season 2 picks up with Masha’s past controversies having been written about and publicized heavily.

Eugene Levy turned a jab at reality TV excess into Schitt’s Creek. The small-town sitcom that made going broke look like a royal glow-up.
At its core, Schitt’s Creek isn’t just about riches to rags—it’s about family. Messy, hilarious, painfully real family. And that’s what makes it so compelling. Most of us know what it’s like when things aren’t all sunshine and roses at home, which makes the Rose family’s journey feel oddly comforting.
In this essay, I’ll break down how Schitt’s Creek turned family dysfunction into Emmy-winning gold.

Schitt’s Creek didn’t just give us iconic one-liners and Alexis’s patented “Ew, David!”—it tapped into the soul of the modern dysfunctional family so well, it swept the Emmys off their feet.

The retreat is back and wilder than ever. Hulu’s Nine Perfect Strangers returns for a second season, with the first pair of new episodes dropping Wednesday (May 21) on the streamer. In it, an all-new batch of wellness-seeking strangers come together under Masha’s (Nicole Kidman) guidance — this time, in the wintry Zauberwald — and try to mend what’s broken in their lives. Like the first season of the show, which adapted Liane Moriarty‘s novel of the same name, the show boasts an all-star cast whose counterparts have intriguing individual and relationship struggles to grapple with. Before the Season 2 premiere for Nine Perfect Strangers, TV Insider caught up with the array of new all-stars to find out what fans should know about these newcomer characters. Annie Murphy‘s character is Imogen, and she arrives on a mission to patch things up with her estranged and aloof mother Victoria, portrayed by Christine Baranski.

Nine Perfect Strangers marked Nicole Kidman's second Liane Moriarty adaptation after Big Little Lies, which premiered in 2021 as a limited series. Following its initial success, Hulu renewed the show for a second season, turning it into an anthology.
Kidman is officially back as resort director Masha Dmitrichencko with a series of brand-new guests. The series wasn't a big hit with the critics or the audience for the first season, and the second continues the same unfortunate trend. Ahead of its May 21 release on Hulu,Nine Perfect Strangers debuted with an unfortunate 44% score from the critics on Rotten Tomatoes.
The initial season followed nine guests arriving at a health and wellness resort called Tranquillum House, set in a fictional town in California. At the resort, the guests undergo unconventional healing and transformation through unsafe and illegal ways. The second season will take an anthology approach with a similar premise and...

No one expected Nine Perfect Strangers to receive a second season. What felt like a self-contained miniseries based on The New York Times best-selling book by Liane Moriarty certainly didn't warrant a second outing, although the green light was given, and fans could anticipate the return of Nicole Kidman's mysterious Masha Dmitrichenko. In fact, Masha would be the only character set for a return, as higher-ups hoped that a shake-up in the cast would help critical and public opinion change for the better a second time round, following mixed reviews the first.
Alas, that doesn't seem to have happened, with the first reviews now in on review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes, and the early scores are even worse than last time. Season 1 of the series currently holds a 59% rating from both critics and audiences, which, although far from impressive, is at least higher than both Holland and Babygirl's audience scores,...

As a self-proclaimed president of the David E. Kelley fan club, I found the first season of Nine Perfect Strangers to be a stunning disappointment, especially considering the talent involved, both in front of and behind the camera. How many shows can boast a cast that includes Nicole Kidman, Michael Shannon, Melissa McCarthy, Regina Hall, and Luke Evans?
The result was a story that wandered aimlessly from character to character, plot point to plot point, and episode to episode, with no real purpose other than to showcase bizarre, head-scratching connections that felt more contrived than authentic. However, at the very least, the freshman outing was highly watchable—perfect for bingeing on Hulu.
I’m pleased to announce Nine Perfect Strangers’ second season is a much stronger effort. Kelley embraces his roots by emphasizing the bond between character development and eccentric storylines, which serves the season well. The individual mysteries concerning...

Nearly four years after the first season of Nine Perfect Strangers, Nicole Kidman’s mysterious guru Masha is back for a second season, with a whole new batch of visitors.
This time the show is set in the snowy Alps and Christine Baranski, Henry Golding, Murray Bartlett, Annie Murphy, Mark Strong, King Princess and Dolly de Leon are among those playing the wellness-seekers at Masha’s retreat.
At the show’s Los Angeles premiere on Thursday, Kidman — who also serves as an executive producer — said she didn’t initially plan for there to be a second season, with the first having been based on Liane Moriarty’s book of the same name and the second now “coming out of imagination.”

Fox Entertainment’s upfront presentation to advertisers was a star-studded affair that began with Jamie Foxx mocking Elon Musk and President Donald Trump, and ended with Joel McHale popping a bottle of champagne with a prop knife in Gordon Ramsay’s honor.
At one point in between, Tom Brady flubbed a stunt pass to Rob Gronkowski so bad, the ball landed among the Madison Avenue execs. (That was not long after Gronkowski took a shot at his and Brady’s 73-year-old former coach Bill Belichick for dating 24-year-old girlfriend Jordon Hudson.)
Held Monday at the Manhattan Center in New York, the event showcasing Fox broadcast network’s 2025-2026 schedule — as well as programming across ad-supported streamer Tubi, Fox Sports and Fox News — kicked off with some jokes from “Beat Shazam” host Foxx.
“It’s been a hectic few weeks for me,” the actor said. “But truly I wanted to be here.

Fox-owned streamer Tubi has picked up the second season of British comedy series Big Mood and ordered a docuseries about the 2026 World Cup.
This comes ahead of Fox’s Upfronts presentation, where the free streamer is expected to be a significant part of discussions.
Deadline revealed that Channel 4 had renewed Big Mood, which stars Bridgerton’s Nicola Coughlan, for a second season earlier this year. At the time, it wasn’t clear whether Tubi, which aired season one, would air the second season but it turns out they were just waiting for the Upfronts to announce it.
Big Mood follows Maggie, played by Coughlan, a 30-year-old writer with bipolar disorder. Her best friend is Eddie, played by It’s a Sin star Lydia West. At the start of Season 2, it’s been a year since Maggie and Eddie last saw each other, without any contact between them. When Eddie suddenly returns for a wedding,...

Brendan Fraser and Sarah Michelle Gellar have selected their next project — and it's a pretty original one. The two '90s icons will join Annie Murphy, Josh Gad, and Elizabeth Hurley for Breaking Bear, an animated series produced by streaming service Tubi, and it's apparently a mash-up betweenYogi Bear and mobster staple The Sopranos. Bring out the Gabagool, Boo-Boo! This time it's the bears who are hunting criminals.
Per Deadline's report, the adult animated series will see Fraser and Gellar as members of a "dysfunctional family of bears who go full criminal to stop frackers, mobsters, and a psychotic wolf pack from destroying their home. As they spiral deeper into the criminal abyss, they face off against biker gangs, an egomaniacal news anchor, and their own spectacular talent for self-sabotage." What if there was a new animated mobster show, but all the main characters were bears? That's the premise of Tubi's Breaking Bear, which will serve as an ursine-themed parody of more serious fare like The Sopranos. And some cinematic and geek icons have already been cast as the voices of the bears and characters who surround them.
Deadline has all the details on the cast. Oscar-winning actor Brendan Fraser will play a bear called Jer, the oldest of the sibling bears who form the main characters of the show. He fancies himself a smart bear, but is in fact incredibly dimwitted and usually causes a lot of trouble with his stupidity.

Breaking Bear has just been announced, and the animated show is set to feature a standout voice cast that includes Brendan Fraser and Sarah Michelle Gellar. Fraser will be best known to many for leading the cast of The Mummy (1999) and its two sequels, but he has also appeared in a host of other film projects, recently experiencing a major acting comeback with his Oscar-winning performance in The Whale (2022). Gellar, on the other hand, rose to fame around the same time with Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and recently appeared in Dexter: Original Sin.

Exclusive: Brendan Fraser (The Whale), Sarah Michelle Gellar (Buffy the Vampire Slayer), Annie Murphy (Schitt’s Creek), Elizabeth Hurley (The Royals) and Josh Gad (Frozen) will lead the voice cast for Tubi’s new adult animated series Breaking Bear.
The series parodies the tropes of mobster dramas, comically combining elements of characters like Yogi Bear with series like The Sopranos. It hails from Julien Nitzberg (The Wild and Wonderful Whites of West Virginia), Evoke Entertainment and Tom DeLonge’s To The Stars Media.
Created by Nitzberg, Breaking Bear is billed as “a fur-flying, law-breaking, forest-saving rampage following a dysfunctional family of bears who go full criminal to stop frackers, mobsters, and a psychotic wolf pack from destroying their home. As they spiral deeper into the criminal abyss, they face off against biker gangs, an egomaniacal news anchor, and their own spectacular talent for self-sabotage.

As TV fans, we always welcome a new month because that means there's new shows and seasons to tune into! There's quite a few exciting additions coming to streaming in May 2025, and a couple that we feel like may not be worth your time. So here's 4 best new shows to watch, as well as two to skip, in May 2025.
Shows to watch on streaming this monthPoker Face season 2 on Peacock
One of the most highly-anticipated shows of the month, and honestly the year, is definitely Poker Face season 2. We've waited a long time for the new season to arrive, and it's finally almost here this spring. The series just has such a unique take on the murder mystery genre, even though it's been done many times.
The fact that we travel on the road with Charlie (Natasha Lyonne), and each episode brings with a new case and new famous guest star keeps things interesting.

Let me start by saying that I was very late to the Black Mirror party — multiple seasons late. However, I eventually dove into the deep end and haven’t come out since.
Episodic anthology shows are a truly unique viewing experience. They allow audiences to jump in at any moment, and best of all, they don’t require watching every single episode.
To be clear, I have seen every episode of Black Mirror, and all I can say is that the hands behind the series were right to get back to basics with tech stories.
(Courtesy of Netflix)
Look, it’s not that the tech-less stories weren’t great. It’s that they didn’t feel like Black Mirror episodes.
It was a nice effort, Netflix, and no one blames you for trying something new, but as my niece’s mother’s mother always says, “If it ain’t broke,...
