Bafta names 18 UK writers from under-represented groups on Elevate programme
Last year’s inaugural scheme supported female directors.

The British Academy of Film and Television Arts (Bafta) has named 18 UK writers to receive support through its Elevate campaign.

Participants include Rachel De-Lahay, co-writer of Channel 4 series Kiri, who is writing an episode of The Eddy for Netflix with Jack Thorne, to be directed by Damien Chazelle.

Also selected is Smita Bhide, whose previous work includes writing and directing The Blue Tower, winner of best UK feature at Raindance film festival in 2008.

BAFTA Under-Represented Writers Scheme, Irish Film & TV Plan, Ifta Execs Renewed — Global Briefs
The British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) has revealed the names of the 18 writers it will be supporting for the next 12 months through BAFTA Elevate, a program that aims to back individuals from under-represented groups to the next stage of their career. They will benefit from networking opportunities, introductions, mentoring, tailored panel discussions, masterclasses and workshops to help them achieve their career goals. They are:

Bronagh Gallagher, Jayne Wisener and Andrew Simpson Added to 'The Life and Adventures of Nick Nickleby'
Northern Irish actors Bronagh Gallagher (Pulp Fiction), Jayne Wisener(A Kiss For Jed) and Andrew Simpson have all been cast in upcoming BBC series 'The Life and Adventures of Nick Nickleby', which is currently shooting in Belfast. Adrian Dunbar (Hear My Song) also stars. David Innes-Edwards is directing all five episodes, four of which have been written by Joy Wilkinson (Doctors) and one which was written by Dominique Moloney (Land Girls). Sue Breen is producing for London-based Kindle, while Melanie Stokes and Anne Brogan are executive producing. Northern Irish Jim Creagh (Give My Head Some Peace) is the director of photography, and Nick Emerson will edit. Ifta-winning Hazel Webb-Crozier (Your Highness) is the costume designer on the project.
