He got his big break into television as a co-presenter of The Wright Stuff (2000). According to the main presenter Matthew Wright, applicants for the position had been limited by Channel Five executives to Oxford, Cambridge or Durham graduates. Wright chose Rajan because he had been state school-educated like himself.
