One Punch Man’s Live-Action Movie Will Only Work If Does The 1 Thing Most Anime Adaptations Have Failed At
Image
In April 2020, Colombia Pictures announced a live-action movie adaptation of the famous manga One Punch Man. However, there are concerns about how well the One Punch Man live-action movie will approach the source material, as many anime adaptations often fail to capture the spirit of the originals. Scott Rosenberg and Jeff Pinkner, who previously worked on the Jumanji films and Venom, originally signed on as writers, with Marvel Studios’ founder Avi Arad set to produce. In 2022, Justin Lin, most notably known for his work in The Fast and Furious franchise, was revealed as the One Punch Man movie’s director.

However, a recent One Punch Man movie update reported that Dan Harmon had been hired to rewrite the script, alongside Heather Anne Campbell. Not much is currently known about the One Punch Man movie, but its current rewrites suggest a new approach to the film’s original premise. Furthermore, while there are many fancasts,...

Lego developing three live-action movies from Patty Jenkins, Jake Kasdan, and Joe Cornish
Image
Lego has proven it can deliver when it comes to animated fare, but what about live-action? Deadline reports that The Lego Group is developing three live-action movies with Universal Pictures and has tapped some major directors to help. Patty Jenkins (Wonder Woman), Jake Kasdan (Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle), and Joe Cornish (Attack the Block) will each direct a Lego movie.

As for the plot of these three movies, they’re under wraps, but I’ll admit that I’m intrigued by what Lego has planned for these live-action projects. Jenkins will direct her project, which she also co-wrote with former DC Entertainment President Geoff Johns and will produce through her Wicious Pictures banner. As for Kasdan, he will direct from a script by Andrew Mogel and Jarrad Paul based on an original idea and a previous draft by Matt Mider and Kevin Burrows. He will also produce with Melvin Mar...

Blockheads, it's time to celebrate. Deadline is reporting that Universal and the Lego Group have greenlit not one, not two, but three new Lego movies, with directors Jake Kasdan, Patty Jenkins, and Joe Cornish.

According to Deadline, "all three movies plots are under wraps," but their scripts are well underway and unique to each directors' vision. Kasdan will be directing his Lego feature off a script from Andrew Mogel and Jarrad Paul, "based on an original idea and previous draft by Matt Mider and Kevin Burrows." Jenkins' movie is "from a script she wrote with former DC Entertainment President Geoff Johns." Meanwhile, Cornish's toy bricks will come to us via a rewrite of a previous draft from Heather Anne Campbell, which was based on a treatment written by Simon Rich.

Three Live-Action Lego Movies Confirmed With Jumanji, Wonder Woman & Attack The Block Directors Attached
Image
An exciting slate of directors has signed on to helm three new Lego movies. The cinematic Lego-verse underwent an unwanted hiatus for several years after 2019's whimsical The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part. 2024 did see another animated Lego movie, but in an unusual form: Piece by Piece, a biopic-style film about music extraordinaire Pharrell Williams. The Lego Movie and its sequel and companion films have been among the most well-liked animated films of this generation, leaving audiences wanting more Lego content.

Lego fans' fears can soon be assuaged as Deadline announces the production on three new Lego-based films. Yet untitled, these films are said to be shot in live-action. Directors for the projects include Jake Kasdan, Patty Jenkins, and Joe Cornish. Kasdan's script will be written by Andrew Mogel and Jarrad Paul based on an idea by Matt Mider and Kevin Burrows. Image
Upholding the humor of One from the source material will be crucial for the movie's success Balancing comedy with drama will be essential to capture the essence of the series The music and casting of Saitama will be key factors in bringing One Punch Man to life

The upcoming One Punch Man live-action movie will adapt the beloved superhero anime into a tangible feature film, but faces some alarming pitfalls along the way. Confirmed to still be in development with Justin Lin set to direct (via Hollywood Reporter), One Punch Man will have the difficult task of morphing the high-flying spectacle of the original webcomic's world into real sets and performances. The script is being re-written by Dan Harmon and Heather Anne Campbell of Rick and Morty, Community, and Whose Line Is It Anyway? fame.

As far as live-action anime adaptations go, One Punch Man won't be a walk in the park.

Upcoming Live-Action Anime Movie Can Continue Invincible & The Boys’ Best Superhero Trend
Image
The Boys and Invincible have both parodied popular superhero stories on the heels of the McU's success. A live-action One Punch Man movie promises to continue this trend, poking fun at the genre and its trropes. Whether the live-action One Punch Man movie becomes as successful as Invincible and The Boys depends on recapturing the source material.

Live-action anime adaptations seem to be on the rise after the success of Netflix's One Piece and Avatar: The Last Airbender, and a recently announced live-action movie can continue a great superhero trend showcased in Invincible and The Boys. While superhero fatigue seems to be increasing alongside the number of live-action adaptations being announced, some series within the genre are finding success. These hits typically break the mold in some way, putting a new spin on the standard superhero story.

And one upcoming live-action anime adaptation promises to do this, building on...

1 Upcoming Live-Action Anime Adaptation Risks Being Worse Than Dragonball Evolution
Image
One Punch-Man's comedic tone is hard to nail in live-action due to its unique blend of superheroic subversion and comedy. One-Punch Man will struggle to stay authentic to the original manga & anime, risking the loss of character focus and depth. Despite concerns, the script rewrites by Dan Harmon and Heather Anne Campbell offer a silver lining for the live-action adaptation.

The upcoming live-action One-Punch Man could risk repeating the same mistakes that sunk Dragonball: Evolution if it doesn't successfully adapt the original story's distinct tone and character focus. In adapting Akira Toriyama's Dragon Ball franchise for Western audiences, the live-action Dragonball: Evolution lost much of the vibrant and unique fun that has long defined the franchise. It's one of the most infamous examples of this trend in movie and TV adaptations of anime by Hollywood, but far from the only one.

This tonal discrepancy has been a problem...

Dan Harmon and Heather Anne Campbell Are Actually Re-Writing the Live-Action ‘One-Punch Man’ Movie!
Image
We have recently reported that the One-Punch Man manga will be getting a live-action movie treatment. This is not a particularly new piece of information, as it has been known that a live-action adaptation is in the works for a while now, but we have gotten some crew updates recently, which confirmed that Rick and Morty writer Dan Harmon and his collaborator Heather Anne Campbell have joined the crew of the upcoming movie as writers, but as it turns out, there is a bigger story there.

Namely, as it turned out, Harmon and Campbell were not hired to simply write the movie; they were, in fact, hired to re-write an already-existing screenplay with which Sony is not satisfied. This doesn’t change much in the long run, but it is a vital piece of information that helps us understand how the pre-production phase is evolving.

One-Punch Man Live-Action Movie Update Confirms Rewrite By Rick & Morty Creator & Writer

The live-action One-Punch Man script is getting rewritten by Rick and Morty creatives Dan Harmon and Heather Anne Campbell. The writers chosen for the adaptation have strong comedy backgrounds, which could match the original manga's style. Uncertainty surrounds the release date of the movie, but there's potential for success if it remains true to source material.

One-Punch Man's live-action adaptation has received a new update, revealing the script is getting a rewrite from the creator of Rick and Morty, alongside a writer from the animated comedy. The original manga created by One is a superhero comedy series about Saitama, a man who can defeat his enemies with a single punch. Oh, Yes, the Live-Action ‘One-Punch Man’ Movie Is Still in the Works!
Image
One-Punch Man is an online manga written and drawn by One. It has been published on the author’s personal website since June 3, 2009. A manga adaptation drawn by Yūsuke Murata has been published in Shūeisha’s Tonari no Young Jump web magazine since June 14, 2012, and 30 volumes have been released as of the time of writing. An anime series adaptation produced by Madhouse has been airing since October 2015. If you add all of this up, you will understand, quite easily, that One-Punch Man is one of the most popular animanga titles in the world and why the quirky series has so many fans.

Building on this, you’ve probably heard that there are plans for a live-action adaptation of the manga, which isn’t all that surprising seeing how there is a live-adaptation craze currently in the West, mostly helped by Netflix’s more or less successful live-action adaptations, such as One Piece and Avatar.

One Punch Man Live-Action Film Ropes In Rick And Morty Creator Dan Harmon & Heather Anne Campbell As Writers
Image
In a much anticipated update for the upcoming live-action film adaptation of One Punch Man, it has been revealed that Sony Pictures has enlisted the talents of Rick and Morty co-creator Dan Harmon, alongside Heather Anne Campbell, to pen the script.

Dan and Heather will be replacing the previously announced writers, Scott Rosenberg and Jeff Pinkner, to rewrite the script.

Sony’s Columbia Pictures announced on April 21, 2020, that they were developing a live-action film adaptation. On June 13, 2022, Justin Lin was unveiled as the director and co-producer, with plans for production to commence later in the year.

One Punch Man is a Japanese superhero manga series created by One. One wrote the original webcomic manga version in early 2009.

A digital manga remake, illustrated by Yusuke Murata, began publication on Shueisha’s Tonari no Young Jump website in June 2012. Its chapters are periodically compiled and published into individual tankobon volumes. As of March 2024, 30 volumes have been released.

How Rick & Morty Season 7's Ending Will Affect Future Canon Teased By Producer
Image
Warning: This article contains Spoilers for Rick and Morty season 7, episode 10, "Fear No Mort."

Rick & Morty season 7' finale sets up character growth for Morty while emphasizing the centrality of Rick and Morty's bond. Morty's greatest fear is Rick viewing him as replaceable, prompting him to realize he can be more independent. Rick's decision to not enter The Hole shows growth and humility, but the defining relationship between Rick and Morty remains intact.

Rick and Morty producer Steve Levy addresses how that season 7 ending will affect the show's canon. Heading into its seventh installment, the popular Adult Swim animated series experienced a big change. Harry Belden and Ian Cardoni took over the lead roles of Morty Smith and Rick Sanchez, respectively, following the firing of Justin Roiland. The shift was well-received. And, as it turned out, the most meaningful change for the titular duo would happen during the closing...

Dan Harmon and Justin Roiland in Rick et Morty (2013)
How ‘Rick and Morty’ Actor Ian Cardoni Channeled His Relationship With His Wife for Season 7 Finale
Dan Harmon and Justin Roiland in Rick et Morty (2013)
Historically, “Rick and Morty” has ended its seasons with a “big shoot ’em up” episode, aka a high-action, high-octane and highly canonical episode that often influences the course of series for seasons to come. That’s not the approach Season 7’s conclusion takes.

Written by Heather Anne Campbell and directed by Eugene Huang, “Fear No Mort” is one of the most intimate and introspective episodes this series has ever aired. Rick (Ian Cardoni) and Morty (Harry Belden) learn of a “fear hole” located inside of a Denny’s bathroom, a portal that forces those who enter to face their absolute worst fears. Desperate to feel something close to terror again, Morty jumps through the hole, setting off an adventure in which Rick is reunited with his lost love Dianne (Kari Wahlgren) and Morty has to confront what he truly means to his grandfather.

Cardoni found Rick’s Season 7 arc “compelling,...

Rick and Morty Faces Its Fears: Season 7 Episode 10 Explained
Image
This article contains spoilers for Rick and Morty season 7 episode 10.

Rick and Morty season 7 had a lot to be afraid of.

Adult Swim‘s animated hit went into the year without the original voices of its titular characters following co-creator Justin Roiland’s dismissal of the show. This meant that the show’s writing staff, led by co-creator Dan Harmon and showrunner Scott Marder, had to work in two new major voice actors (Ian Cardoni as Rick and Harry Belden as Morty) while also fighting against the inevitable fan perception of creative inertia that all animated series face nearly a decade in.

Perhaps it’s no surprise then that the theme of season 7’s 10th and final episode all comes down to fear. Fittingly titled “Fear No Mort,” the season finale finds Rick and Morty meeting a mysterious thrill-seeker (voiced by Liev Schreiber) and being brought to a Denny’s...

Wasserman Acquires Powerhouse Manager Brillstein Entertainment Partners; Adds Pitt, Sandler, Maher & Deep List To Sports & Music
Image
Sports and music representation powerhouse Wasserman has finalized its acquisition of Brillstein Entertainment Partners, the venerable Hollywood management and production company. Terms were not disclosed. Deadline exclusively revealed the acquisition talks back in February.

Wasserman chairman and CEO Casey Wasserman and Brillstein co-CEOs Cynthia Pett and Jon Liebman made the announcement. It puts Wasserman, grandson of the iconic Hollywood representative and studio chief Lew Wasserman, directly into the film and TV representation and production game for the first time. It is the second strategic alignment for Wasserman, who took over the lucrative music touring business that was once the most profitable part of the Paradigm agency, at a time when the pandemic grounded live touring revenues.

It would be the latest move in management after 3Arts made a deal with Lionsgate, and Range Media Partners linked with Automatik.

Wasserman, Pett and Liebman believe their cultures will mesh in their compatible business and staffs.

Bruce Willis Lauded by Hollywood After News of Exit From Acting: ‘Forever a Legend’
Bruce Willis at an event for Expendables : Unité spéciale (2010)
Hollywood is rallying behind Bruce Willis after the actor’s family announced on Wednesday that he will be stepping away from acting after being diagnosed with the cognitive brain disorder aphasia.

“To Bruce’s amazing supporters, as a family we wanted to share that our beloved Bruce has been experiencing some health issues and has recently been diagnosed with aphasia, which is impacting his cognitive abilities,” the announcement read. “As a result of this and with much consideration Bruce is stepping away from the career that has meant so much to him.”

The announcement sparked an immediate outpouring of support for Willis, who broke out on the ABC series “Moonlighting” before transitioning into film with the iconic action film “Die Hard.” From there, Willis became one of biggest movie stars in the world with films including “Pulp Fiction,” “The Sixth Sense” and “12 Monkeys.”

In response to the news, Producer Randall Emmett said,...

Film Academy Gets Zero Stars From Critics for Cutting 8 Key Categories From Oscars Broadcast
Dylan O'Brien
On Tuesday the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences announced that it would cut eight categories from the live portion of this year’s Oscars broadcast, apparently in an attempt to shorten the broadcast length.

While it remains to be seen how rank and file normies will react once the show airs, the overwhelming response from within the industry and from invested fans was fairly intense outrage over what many critics said was an insult to the people in the affected categories.

“Wow f— this,” actor Dylan O’Brien tweeted, just for one example.

The affected categories, just for reference, are: Documentary (Short Subject), Film Editing, Makeup and Hairstyling, Music (Original Score), Production Design, Short Film (Animated), Short Film (Live Action), and Sound. They’ll be presented in a more sparsely attended ceremony just before the broadcast, with shortened, edited footage edited into the live broadcast in some way.

‘The Twilight Zone’ Reboot Not Returning For Season 3 On Paramount+
Image
Update 2/25: Jordan Peele’s Monkeypaw and Simon Kinberg’s Genre Films have issued a statement about the end of The Twilight Zone series.

We greatly enjoyed our time working on The Twilight Zone — particularly when the real world around us often felt more and more like another dimension. We cherished the opportunity to collaborate with so many talented writers, actors and crewmembers. After 20 unique episodes, we have told the stories that we wanted to tell, and CBS All Access was gracious in their understanding of our decision. It was an honor and a privilege to bring audiences a modern re-imagining of Rod Serling’s iconic creation.

Previous 2/24: The second season of the reboot of The Twilight Zone was submitted for your approval, to borrow the famous phrase of original sci-fi creator Rod Serling. Apparently, there wasn’t enough approval, as the CBS All Access show won’t continue...

The Twilight Zone Season 2 Episode 5 Review: Among the Untrodden
Image
This The Twilight Zone review contains spoilers.

The Twilight Zone Season 2 Episode 5

Remember the opening of Ghostbusters? After that poor librarian got her socks knocked-off by the library ghost, we meet Peter Venkman (Bill Murray), and he’s testing two people for psychic powers. Venkman was using something called Zener cards, known mostly for their use in testing psychic abilities. In the opening of Ghostbusters, the Zener cards are a punchline: Venkman is faking the results to make the “wavy line” guy look bad and to flirt with a woman. But what if the Zener cards weren’t a joke? What if the opening of Ghostbusters suggested a totally different type of story: A young woman pretends not to know the answer to every Zener card, even though she totally does.

“Among the Undtrodden,” is a standout in the second season for the new Jordan Peele-produced Twilight Zone. Written by Heather Anne Campbell,...

The Twilight Zone Episode 8 Review: Point of Origin
The rebooted Twilight Zone shows no signs of shying away from huge contemporary headlines in "Point of Origin."

This The Twilight Zone review contains spoilers.

The Twilight Zone Episode 8

Some scholars and fans of science fiction will tell you that the purpose of the genre isn’t to answer the fascinating question it poses, but instead, to simply ask those questions in ways that make you think.

In this sense, the latest episode of Jordan Peele’s Twilight Zone reboot — “Point of Origin” — is exactly like The Twilight Zone of old; it dips us into an interesting premise, but ends before we can figure out exactly how to feel about it. Most forward-thinking people probably have a sympathetic view of “illegal” immigration, but what this episode does is try to push the controversies around immigration into another dimension — literally.

In the episode, Ginnifer Goodwin plays Eve, an...

The Twilight Zone: Heather Anne Campbell On Crafting Twists
Ryan Britt May 10, 2019

The writer of “Not All Men” and co-writer of “Six Degrees of Freedom” explains the most chilling new trips to The Twilight Zone.

This week, the latest episode of Jordan Peele’s newly rebooted Twilight Zone tackles aspects of the #MeToo era with the chilling episode “Not All Men.” When a meteor shower seemingly causes all the men in small town to turn into murderous rioting monsters, the episode explores just exactly where the problem comes from originally, and more importantly, how women can fight back.

The episode also borrows a few beats from one of the best episode of the original series; “The Monsters are Due On Maple Street.” But, the writer of the episode — Heather Anne Campbell (who also co-wrote “Six Degrees of Freedom” — tells Den of Geek that this episode wasn’t about fan service. She also revealed why she thinks the twist in this episode worked,...

The Twilight Zone Episode 7 Review: Not All Men
The twist on the latest Twilight Zone will remind longtime sci-fi TV fans of Torchwood and Star Trek, but will everyone like it?

This Twilight Zone review contains spoilers.

The Twilight Zone Episode 7

Watching the newest episode of The Twilight Zone— “Not All Men” — it will be impossible for a viewer not to associate the subject matter with the #MeToo movement. The evil that men do, and the evil that lurk in their hearts is something that isn’t just a science fiction premise; it’s a fairly obvious mirror for the real-world, too. That said, there’s something in this outing to the Zone that feels like it needed a smile from Captain Jack from Torchwood or even a touch of Captain Kirk from the original Star Trek.

After mysterious red asteroids shower a small town, a woman named Annie (Taissa Farmiga) starts noticing certain people behaving oddly. For fans of old-school sci-fi,...

The Twilight Zone: Ray Bradbury's Influence Is All Over Six Degrees of Freedom
Ryan Britt May 2, 2019

Even if the latest Twilight Zone episode isn't a direct homage to Ray Bradbury, his influence can be felt.

The following contains spoilers for The Twilight Zone, "Six Degrees of Freedom."

If the latest episode of the newly rebooted Twilight Zone — “Six Degrees of Freedom” — feels old school to you, you’re not crazy. For bookish types, the most obvious Easter egg in the episode comes pretty early; the Mars-bound spaceship central to the story is called “Bradbury Heavy,” a kind tribute to Elon Musk putting the word “heavy” after the names of rockets, but also, of course, the iconic author of The Martian Chronicles, Ray Bradbury. And, even if the screenwriters of this Twilight Zone episode (Glen Morgan and Heather Anne Campbell) weren’t intentionally homaging Ray Bradbury’s writing, his ghost haunts this creepy episode in surprising ways.

Famously, The Martian Chronicles is not a work of hard science fiction,...

The Twilight Zone Season 2: Release Date, Cast, Episodes, and More News
Chris Longo Jan 12, 2020

Jordan Peele's Twilight Zone reboot on CBS All Access will continue with season 2 with Jordan Peele writing an episode this time!

CBS All Access has confirmed that we will spend a second season in the fifth dimension. The Twilight Zone season 2 was officially picked up less than a month after the series premiered on April 1st, 2019.

According to CBS, the anthology drove the most viewers on its release day for an original series on the streaming service, which is also home to Star Trek: Discovery. Peele serves as executive producer and narrator, taking the place of Rod Serling, the creator and iconic figure behind the original Twilight Zone.

‘The Twilight Zone’: A Viewer’s Guide to Jordan Peele’s CBS All Access Reboot, Episode by Episode
The Twilight Zone: La quatrième dimension (2019)
The signpost ahead reads “The Twilight Zone,” ushering viewers to a realm that at once feels familiar and yet is almost entirely new. Executive producers Jordan Peele and Simon Kinberg have reimagined Rod Serling’s classic horror/science-fiction/fantasy series from the ‘60s for a whole new generation.

At an event in Hollywood this year, Kinberg revealed why it was the perfect time to bring back the show. “I think the world all of a sudden was in desperate need of ‘The Twilight Zone,’” he said. ‘If you said three, four years ago that like a reality star who had no political experience will be the leader of the free world with access to the nuclear button, you think that’s a crazy ‘Twilight Zone’ episode.”

Kinberg also said that the vision Peele and CBS All Access had meshed with how to tell stories while pushing it to the limits.
