Shazam Gifts Its Gods a Big Change, Paving the Way For One Hero to Take Center Stage
Image
Warning: contains spoilers for Shazam #19!

Shazam just gifted its gods a massive change, paving the way for a member of his family to take center stage. Freddy Freeman is an integral member of the Shazam Family, but in recent months, long-standing issues between him and Billy have come to the surface. Matters come to a head in Shazam #19, establishing a bold new status quo for Freddy, one that will make him a great hero.

Shazam #19 is written by Josie Campbell and drawn by Dan McDaid. Freddy has taken a new source of power: the Amber Lightning. Forged by the god Hephaestus and a band of “misfit” gods, the Amber Lightning was given to the wizard Shazam for safekeeping on the Rock of Eternity. It lay dormant for thousands of years until Freddy found it, and has been drawing his power from it since. Freddy’s current struggle with Mister Mind...

Shazam's Connection to Billy Batson Just Got a Major DC Makeover
Image
Warning: contains spoilers for Shazam #18!

Shazam’s connection to Billy Batson just got a major makeover in DC Comics. The publisher’s most recent Shazam title has been a long meditation on the relationship between Billy and Shazam, or “the Captain” as he prefers to be called now. This relationship has had its ups and downs throughout the series, but in Shazam #18, Billy makes a stunning confession to the Captain.

Currently, the only members of the Shazam Family with powers are Billy, Mary and Freddy. Darla, Eugene and Pedro are sitting this one out.

Shazam #18 is written by Jose Campbell and drawn by Dan McDaid. The Monster Society of Evil, led by Georgia Sivana, have launched an all-out, multipronged assault on the Shazam Family. Among their numbers is Freddy Freeman, corrupted and now calling himself “the Commander.” The Commander and the Captain fight, and Freddy manages to pummel his opponent well.

Michael Shannon Offers Advice To The Next General Zod Actor Who'll Replace Him In James Gunn's Dcu
Image
Actor Michael Shannon brought a menacing gravitas to the Kryptonian General Dru-Zod in 2013's Man of Steel, cementing himself as one of the more memorable villains in the DC Extended Universe. Now, years later, Shannon, Henry Cavill, Ben Affleck, and most of the other Dceu stars are being replaced with new iterations. This is the result of James Gunn and Peter Safran taking the reins at DC Studios and establishing a new DC Universe, which kicks off next year with Gunn's Superman. Though he is not slated to appear in that film, Zod's recasting is inevitable as one of the most iconic Superman antagonists.

For his part, Shannon isn't particularly upset. In an exclusive interview with Screen Rant, the star unpacked his mindset behind making Man of Steel as well as any advice he may have for the next General Zod. Of his approach to playing the villain,...

Shazam Is Paying Off Its 2019 Post-Credits Scene with the Gruesome Return of His Best Villain
Image
Warning: Spoilers for Shazam #16!Shazam fans assemble! The Captain's best villain is back in the comics and isn't playing around. Mister Mind has long been trying to dismantle the DC Universe, starting with the Shazam family, and though he's little, he's proved to be one of the Captain's most formidable foes. In Shazam! #16 by Josie Campbell, Dan McDaid, Roberto Poggi, Trish Mulvihill, and Troy Peteri, Freddy Freeman is acting a little strangely. After 83 Years, Elvis Presley's Favorite Superhero Finally Has a Legally Safe Codename

Warning: Spoilers for Shazam #16!An early ally of DC Comics hero Shazam, known as Captain Marvel Jr., was depicted in rock legend Elvis' biopic as being an influence on the future star and now the character has made a triumphant return, taking on a new persona for a new era, "the Commander", reflecting Shazam's evolution into "the Captain."

Shazam #16 written by Josie Campbell, with art by Dan McDaid introduces the hero's latest codename, settling decades of dispute over the character's name by officially dubbing him the Commander, in a move that will hopefully inaugurate a new era Elvis' underappreciated favorite.

Many people might not realize that Elvis Presley, who helped make rock 'n' roll a household staple in America between the 1950s and '70s, was a comic book fan and collector and he had a particular affinity for the hero known as "Captain Marvel Jr." at the time.

Zod's knowledge of Kryptonian technology, particularly Sunstone, makes him extremely dangerous to Superman and other Kryptonians, as well as the rest of the galaxy. The versatility of Sunstone leaves the purpose of Zod's ultimate weapon unclear, but it could be used to remove the powers of Superman or even destroy planets.

Warning! Contains Spoilers For Kneel Before Zod #1!General Zod recently came to rule his own planet, and as he often does, he's begun using it to raise an army. What's more, he's started building an ultimate weapon, one made out of the same material as Superman's iconic Fortress of Solitude. While it's unclear precisely what Zod's plans are, it's not unwise to assume that the Kryptonian might have his eyes set on galactic domination.

Superman's Magical New Team Puts Justice League Dark to Shame
Image
Warning! Contains potential spoilers sor Action Comics #1060!

Superman's new adventure requires the help of dark magical heroes, including John Constantine, Etrigan, and Bloodwynd. The team-up between Superman and these dark heroes is unlike anything he has experienced before. Their mission is to save Superman's family from a traitor in the Multiverse. Superman's optimistic nature might impact the darker heroes, but their magical abilities pose a significant threat to him, as magic is one of his weaknesses.

Superman is going on a new adventure, and his new teammates are far more used to the darkness than anything else. As Superman travels through the multiverse he'll need the help of John Constantine, Etrigan the Demon, and Hell's very own Superman, Bloodwynd.

This surprising team-up will take place in Action Comics #1060 this December. While Superman has been in the Justice League for a long time, he rarely interacts with members of Justice League Dark.

"Kneel Before Zod": Superman's New Take on General Zod Is Inspired by SnyderVerse's Michael Shannon
Image
A new solo-series from DC Comics focusing on Superman's Kryptonian rival General Zod will draw influence from Michael Shannon's portrayal of the character from the Snyderverse. With legendary Superman writer Joe Casey at the helm, the latest portrayal of Clark Kent's Kryptonian nemesis will draw inspiration from beyond his comic book appearances.

Kneel Before Zod – the upcoming story from Casey and artist Dan McDaid – takes inspiration from the character's depiction in Zack Snyder's Man of Steel.

Speaking with Comic Book Resources, Joe Case explained that what drew him to making Shannon's Zod his muse for the comic was how "clear cut" and "laser focused" he was when portraying the role.

Superman Meets Kermit the Frog in Outrageously Heartwarming Fanart
Image
One amazing piece of fanart has united Superman with The Muppet Show's Kermit the Frog. The two childhood icons come together in a work that will absolutely tug at the heartstrings of any fan.

Superman is one of the most well-known icons of literature, but even his popularity is nothing compared to one particularly beloved puppet. For decades, Kermit the Frog has been one of the most popular children's entertainment characters thanks to his consistent presence in the Muppets' various adventures. The crew's de facto leader is generally presented as a charming, caring everyman who loves hanging with his pals and playing the banjo. Kermit might not be as wacky as Gonzo or have the groan-inducing puns of Fozzy Bear, but his strong spirit and determination is what keeps the Muppets together.
